1E Nimrod, filho de Cush, ainda estava na terra de Sinar, e ele reinou sobre ela e habitou lá, e construiu cidades na terra de Sinar.

1And Nimrod son of Cush was still in the land of Shinar, and he reigned over it and dwelt there, and he built cities in the land of Shinar.

2E estes são os nomes das quatro cidades que ele construiu, e ele chamou seus nomes de acordo com as ocorrências que aconteceram com elas na construção da torre.

2And these are the names of the four cities which he built, and he called their names after the occurrences that happened to them in the building of the tower.

3E chamou à primeira Babel, dizendo: Porque ali o Senhor confundiu a língua de toda a terra; e ao segundo chamou Erech, porque dali Deus os dispersou.

3And he called the first Babel, saying, Because the Lord there confounded the language of the whole earth; and the name of the second he called Erech, because from there God dispersed them.

4E o terceiro ele chamou Eched, dizendo que havia uma grande batalha naquele lugar; e o quarto ele chamou de Calnah, porque seus príncipes e homens poderosos foram consumidos ali, e eles irritaram o Senhor, eles se rebelaram e transgrediram contra ele.

4And the third he called Eched, saying there was a great battle at that place; and the fourth he called Calnah, because his princes and mighty men were consumed there, and they vexed the Lord, they rebelled and transgressed against him.

5E quando Nimrod construiu essas cidades na terra de Sinar, ele colocou nelas o restante de seu povo, seus príncipes e seus homens poderosos que restaram em seu reino.

5And when Nimrod had built these cities in the land of Shinar, he placed in them the remainder of his people, his princes and his mighty men that were left in his kingdom.

6E Nimrod habitou em Babel, e lá ele renovou seu reinado sobre o resto de seus súditos, e ele reinou com segurança, e os súditos e príncipes de Nimrod chamaram seu nome de Amraphel, dizendo que na torre seus príncipes e homens caíram por seus meios.

6And Nimrod dwelt in Babel, and he there renewed his reign over the rest of his subjects, and he reigned securely, and the subjects and princes of Nimrod called his name Amraphel, saying that at the tower his princes and men fell through his means.

7E apesar disso, Nimrod não retornou ao Senhor e continuou na iniquidade e ensinando a iniqüidade aos filhos dos homens; e Mardon, seu filho, era pior que seu pai e continuou a aumentar as abominações de seu pai.

7And notwithstanding this, Nimrod did not return to the Lord, and he continued in wickedness and teaching wickedness to the sons of men; and Mardon, his son, was worse than his father, and continued to add to the abominations of his father.

8E ele fez pecar os filhos dos homens, por isso é dito: Dos ímpios procede a maldade.

8And he caused the sons of men to sin, therefore it is said, From the wicked goeth forth wickedness.

9Naquela época houve guerra entre as famílias dos filhos de Cão, pois moravam nas cidades que haviam construído.

9At that time there was war between the families of the children of Ham, as they were dwelling in the cities which they had built.

10E Quedorlaomer, rei de Elam, afastou-se das famílias dos filhos de Cão, e lutou com eles e os subjugou, e foi às cinco cidades da planície e lutou contra eles e os subjugou, e eles estavam sob seu controle.

10And Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, went away from the families of the children of Ham, and he fought with them and he subdued them, and he went to the five cities of the plain and he fought against them and he subdued them, and they were under his control.

11E serviram-no doze anos e pagaram-lhe um imposto anual.

11And they served him twelve years, and they gave him a yearly tax.

12Naquela época morreu Naor, filho de Serugue, no quadragésimo nono ano de vida de Abrão, filho de Terá.

12At that time died Nahor, son of Serug, in the forty-ninth year of the life of Abram son of Terah.

13E no quinquagésimo ano da vida de Abrão, filho de Terá, Abrão saiu da casa de Noé e foi para a casa de seu pai.

13And in the fiftieth year of the life of Abram son of Terah, Abram came forth from the house of Noah, and went to his father's house.

14E Abrão conheceu o Senhor, e ele seguiu seus caminhos e instruções, e o Senhor seu Deus estava com ele.

14And Abram knew the Lord, and he went in his ways and instructions, and the Lord his God was with him.

15E Terá, seu pai, naquela época, ainda era capitão do exército do rei Nimrod, e ainda seguia deuses estranhos.

15And Terah his father was in those days, still captain of the host of king Nimrod, and he still followed strange gods.

16E Abrão chegou à casa de seu pai e viu doze deuses ali em seus templos, e a ira de Abrão se acendeu quando ele viu essas imagens na casa de seu pai.

16And Abram came to his father's house and saw twelve gods standing there in their temples, and the anger of Abram was kindled when he saw these images in his father's house.

17E disse Abrão: Vive o Senhor, estas imagens não permanecerão na casa de meu pai; assim fará comigo o Senhor que me criou, se dentro de três dias eu não quebrar todos eles.

17And Abram said, As the Lord liveth these images shall not remain in my father's house; so shall the Lord who created me do unto me if in three days' time I do not break them all.

18E Abrão se afastou deles, e sua ira ardeu dentro dele. E Abrão apressou-se e foi da câmara para o átrio exterior de seu pai, e encontrou seu pai sentado no pátio, e todos os seus servos com ele, e Abrão veio e sentou-se diante dele.

18And Abram went from them, and his anger burned within him. And Abram hastened and went from the chamber to his father's outer court, and he found his father sitting in the court, and all his servants with him, and Abram came and sat before him.

19E Abrão perguntou a seu pai, dizendo: Pai, diga-me onde está Deus que criou o céu e a terra, e todos os filhos dos homens na terra, e quem criou você e eu. E Terah respondeu a seu filho Abrão e disse: Eis que aqueles que nos criaram estão todos conosco na casa.

19And Abram asked his father, saying, Father, tell me where is God who created heaven and earth, and all the sons of men upon earth, and who created thee and me. And Terah answered his son Abram and said, Behold those who created us are all with us in the house.

20E Abrão disse a seu pai: Meu senhor, mostre-os para mim, peço-te; e Terah trouxe Abrão para a câmara do pátio interno, e Abrão viu, e eis que toda a sala estava cheia de deuses de madeira e pedra, doze grandes imagens e outras menos do que elas, sem número.

20And Abram said to his father, My lord, shew them to me I pray thee; and Terah brought Abram into the chamber of the inner court, and Abram saw, and behold the whole room was full of gods of wood and stone, twelve great images and others less than they without number.

21E Terah disse a seu filho: Eis que estes são os que fizeram tudo o que você vê na terra, e que criaram a mim e a você, e toda a humanidade.

21And Terah said to his son, Behold these are they which made all thou seest upon earth, and which created me and thee, and all mankind.

22E Terah se curvou aos seus deuses, e então se afastou deles, e Abrão, seu filho, foi embora com ele.

22And Terah bowed down to his gods, and he then went away from them, and Abram, his son, went away with him.

23E quando Abrão se afastou deles, ele foi até sua mãe e sentou-se diante dela, e disse a sua mãe: Eis que meu pai me mostrou aqueles que fizeram o céu e a terra, e todos os filhos dos homens.

23And when Abram had gone from them he went to his mother and sat before her, and he said to his mother, Behold, my father has shown me those who made heaven and earth, and all the sons of men.

24Agora, portanto, apresse-se e traga um cabritinho do rebanho, e faça dele um guisado saboroso, para que eu possa trazê-lo aos deuses de meu pai como uma oferenda para eles comerem; talvez eu possa assim me tornar aceitável para eles.

24Now, therefore, hasten and fetch a kid from the flock, and make of it savory meat, that I may bring it to my father's gods as an offering for them to eat; perhaps I may thereby become acceptable to them.

25E sua mãe fez assim, e ela pegou um cabrito, e fez carne saborosa dele, e trouxe-o para Abrão, e Abrão tomou a carne saborosa de sua mãe e trouxe-a diante dos deuses de seu pai, e ele se aproximou deles para que pudessem comer; e Terá, seu pai, não sabia disso.

25And his mother did so, and she fetched a kid, and made savory meat thereof, and brought it to Abram, and Abram took the savory meat from his mother and brought it before his father's gods, and he drew nigh to them that they might eat; and Terah his father, did not know of it.

26E Abrão viu no dia em que ele estava sentado entre eles, que eles não tinham voz, nem audição, nem movimento, e nenhum deles podia estender a mão para comer.

26And Abram saw on the day when he was sitting amongst them, that they had no voice, no hearing, no motion, and not one of them could stretch forth his hand to eat.

27E Abrão zombou deles, e disse: Certamente a carne saborosa que preparei não lhes agradou, ou talvez fosse pouco para eles, e por essa razão eles não comeram; portanto amanhã prepararei carne fresca e saborosa, melhor e mais abundante que esta, para que possa ver o resultado.

27And Abram mocked them, and said, Surely the savory meat that I prepared has not pleased them, or perhaps it was too little for them, and for that reason they would not eat; therefore tomorrow I will prepare fresh savory meat, better and more plentiful than this, in order that I may see the result.

28E foi no dia seguinte que Abrão orientou sua mãe sobre a carne saborosa, e sua mãe se levantou e pegou três belos cabritos do rebanho, e ela fez deles uma excelente carne saborosa, como seu filho gostava, e ela deu a seu filho Abrão; e Terá, seu pai, não sabia disso.

28And it was on the next day that Abram directed his mother concerning the savory meat, and his mother rose and fetched three fine kids from the flock, and she made of them some excellent savory meat, such as her son was fond of, and she gave it to her son Abram; and Terah his father did not know of it.

29E Abrão tomou a comida saborosa de sua mãe e a trouxe diante dos deuses de seu pai na câmara; e ele chegou perto deles para que pudessem comer, e colocou-o diante deles, e Abrão sentou-se diante deles o dia todo, pensando que talvez pudessem comer.

29And Abram took the savory meat from his mother, and brought it before his father's gods into the chamber; and he came nigh unto them that they might eat, and he placed it before them, and Abram sat before them all day, thinking perhaps they might eat.

30E Abrão os viu, e eis que não tinham voz nem audição, nem nenhum deles estendeu a mão para comer carne.

30And Abram viewed them, and behold they had neither voice nor hearing, nor did one of them stretch forth his hand to the meat to eat.

31E à noite daquele dia, naquela casa, Abrão foi vestido com o espírito de Deus.

31And in the evening of that day in that house Abram was clothed with the spirit of God.

32E ele clamou e disse: Ai de meu pai e desta geração iníqua, cujos corações estão todos inclinados à vaidade, que servem esses ídolos de madeira e pedra que não podem comer, cheirar, ouvir ou falar, que têm bocas sem falar, olhos sem ver, ouvidos sem ouvir, mãos sem sentir e pernas que não podem se mover; como eles são aqueles que os fizeram e que neles confiam.

32And he called out and said, Wo unto my father and this wicked generation, whose hearts are all inclined to vanity, who serve these idols of wood and stone which can neither eat, smell, hear nor speak, who have mouths without speech, eyes without sight, ears without hearing, hands without feeling, and legs which cannot move; like them are those that made them and that trust in them.

33E quando Abrão viu todas essas coisas, sua ira se acendeu contra seu pai, e ele se apressou e pegou uma machadinha na mão, e foi à câmara dos deuses, e quebrou todos os deuses de seu pai.

33And when Abram saw all these things his anger was kindled against his father, and he hastened and took a hatchet in his hand, and came unto the chamber of the gods, and he broke all his father's gods.

34E quando ele terminou de quebrar as imagens, ele colocou a machadinha na mão do grande deus que estava ali diante deles, e ele saiu; e Terah, seu pai, voltou para casa, pois ouvira na porta o som do golpe da machadinha; então Terah entrou em casa para saber do que se tratava.

34And when he had done breaking the images, he placed the hatchet in the hand of the great god which was there before them, and he went out; and Terah his father came home, for he had heard at the door the sound of the striking of the hatchet; so Terah came into the house to know what this was about.

35E Terah, tendo ouvido o barulho da machadinha na sala das imagens, correu para a sala das imagens, e encontrou Abrão saindo.

35And Terah, having heard the noise of the hatchet in the room of images, ran to the room to the images, and he met Abram going out.

36E Terah entrou na sala e encontrou todos os ídolos caídos e quebrados, e a machadinha na mão do maior, que não estava quebrada, e a carne saborosa que Abrão, seu filho, havia feito ainda estava diante deles.

36And Terah entered the room and found all the idols fallen down and broken, and the hatchet in the hand of the largest, which was not broken, and the savory meat which Abram his son had made was still before them.

37E quando Terah viu isso, sua raiva se acendeu muito, e ele se apressou e saiu da sala para Abrão.

37And when Terah saw this his anger was greatly kindled, and he hastened and went from the room to Abram.

38E encontrou Abrão, seu filho, ainda sentado em casa; e ele lhe disse: Que obra é esta que fizeste aos meus deuses?

38And he found Abram his son still sitting in the house; and he said to him, What is this work thou hast done to my gods?

39E Abrão respondeu a Terah, seu pai, e disse: Não é assim, meu senhor, pois eu trouxe carne saborosa diante deles, e quando cheguei perto deles com a carne que eles poderiam comer, todos de uma vez estenderam as mãos para comer antes que o grande estendesse a mão para comer.

39And Abram answered Terah his father and he said, Not so my lord, for I brought savory meat before them, and when I came nigh to them with the meat that they might eat, they all at once stretched forth their hands to eat before the great one had put forth his hand to eat.

40E o grande viu as obras que eles fizeram diante dele, e sua raiva se acendeu violentamente contra eles, e ele foi e pegou a machadinha que estava na casa e foi até eles e quebrou todas elas, e eis que a machadinha ainda está em sua mão, como você vê.

40And the large one saw their works that they did before him, and his anger was violently kindled against them, and he went and took the hatchet that was in the house and came to them and broke them all, and behold the hatchet is yet in his hand as thou seest.

41E a ira de Terah se acendeu contra seu filho Abrão, quando ele falou isso; e Terá disse a Abrão, seu filho, em sua ira: Que história é essa que você contou? Você fala mentiras para mim.

41And Terah's anger was kindled against his son Abram, when he spoke this; and Terah said to Abram his son in his anger, What is this tale that thou hast told? Thou speakest lies to me.

42Existe nestes deuses espírito, alma ou poder para fazer tudo o que você me disse? Não são eles madeira e pedra, e não fui eu mesmo que os fiz, e você pode falar tais mentiras, dizendo que o grande deus que estava com eles os feriu? Foi você quem colocou a machadinha nas mãos dele e depois disse que ele feriu todos eles.

42Is there in these gods spirit, soul or power to do all thou hast told me? Are they not wood and stone, and have I not myself made them, and canst thou speak such lies, saying that the large god that was with them smote them? It is thou that didst place the hatchet in his hands, and then sayest he smote them all.

43E Abrão respondeu a seu pai e disse-lhe: E como podes então servir estes ídolos nos quais não há poder para fazer nada? Aqueles ídolos em que você confia podem te livrar? eles podem ouvir suas orações quando você os invoca? poderão eles livrar-te das mãos dos teus inimigos, ou travarão batalhas por ti contra os teus inimigos, para que sirvas madeira e pedra que não podem falar nem ouvir?

43And Abram answered his father and said to him, And how canst thou then serve these idols in whom there is no power to do any thing? Can those idols in which thou trustest deliver thee? can they hear thy prayers when thou callest upon them? can they deliver thee from the hands of thy enemies, or will they fight thy battles for thee against thy enemies, that thou shouldst serve wood and stone which can neither speak nor hear?

44E agora certamente não é bom para ti, nem para os filhos dos homens que estão ligados a ti, fazer estas coisas; você é tão tolo, tão tolo ou tão sem entendimento que servirá madeira e pedra e fará dessa maneira?

44And now surely it is not good for thee nor for the sons of men that are connected with thee, to do these things; are you so silly, so foolish or so short of understanding that you will serve wood and stone, and do after this manner?

45E esquecer o Senhor Deus que fez o céu e a terra, e que os criou na terra, e assim trazer um grande mal sobre suas almas neste assunto, servindo pedra e madeira?

45And forget the Lord God who made heaven and earth, and who created you in the earth, and thereby bring a great evil upon your souls in this matter by serving stone and wood?

46Nossos pais não pecaram neste assunto nos tempos antigos, e o Senhor Deus do universo trouxe as águas do dilúvio sobre eles e destruiu toda a terra?

46Did not our fathers in days of old sin in this matter, and the Lord God of the universe brought the waters of the flood upon them and destroyed the whole earth?

47E como você pode continuar a fazer isso e servir deuses de madeira e pedra, que não podem ouvir, nem falar, nem livrá-lo da opressão, trazendo assim a ira do Deus do universo sobre você?

47And how can you continue to do this and serve gods of wood and stone, who cannot hear, or speak, or deliver you from oppression, thereby bringing down the anger of the God of the universe upon you?

48Agora, portanto, meu pai, abstenha-se disso e não traga mal à sua alma e às almas de sua casa.

48Now therefore my father refrain from this, and bring not evil upon thy soul and the souls of thy household.

49E Abrão apressou-se e saltou diante de seu pai, e pegou a machadinha do maior ídolo de seu pai, com a qual Abrão o quebrou e fugiu.

49And Abram hastened and sprang from before his father, and took the hatchet from his father's largest idol, with which Abram broke it and ran away.

50E Terah, vendo tudo o que Abrão tinha feito, apressou-se em sair de sua casa, e ele foi até o rei e veio diante de Nimrod e ficou diante dele, e ele se curvou ao rei; e o rei disse: O que queres?

50And Terah, seeing all that Abram had done, hastened to go from his house, and he went to the king and he came before Nimrod and stood before him, and he bowed down to the king; and the king said, What dost thou want?

51E ele disse: Rogo-te, meu senhor, que me ouça - Há cinquenta anos atrás, uma criança nasceu para mim, e assim ele fez aos meus deuses e assim falou; e agora, portanto, meu senhor e rei, mande chamá-lo para que ele venha perante ti e julgue-o de acordo com a lei, para que possamos ser libertos de seu mal.

51And he said, I beseech thee my lord, to hear me--Now fifty years back a child was born to me, and thus has he done to my gods and thus has he spoken; and now therefore, my lord and king, send for him that he may come before thee, and judge him according to the law, that we may be delivered from his evil.

52E o rei enviou três homens dos seus servos, e eles foram e trouxeram Abrão perante o rei. E Nimrod e todos os seus príncipes e servos estavam naquele dia sentados diante dele, e Terah também sentou-se diante deles.

52And the king sent three men of his servants, and they went and brought Abram before the king. And Nimrod and all his princes and servants were that day sitting before him, and Terah sat also before them.

53E o rei disse a Abrão: O que é isso que fizeste a teu pai e aos seus deuses? E Abrão respondeu ao rei nas palavras que ele falou a seu pai, e ele disse: O grande deus que estava com eles na casa fez-lhes o que ouviste.

53And the king said to Abram, What is this that thou hast done to thy father and to his gods? And Abram answered the king in the words that he spoke to his father, and he said, The large god that was with them in the house did to them what thou hast heard.

54E o rei disse a Abrão: Tinham eles poder para falar, e comer, e fazer como disseste? E Abrão respondeu ao rei, dizendo: E se não há poder neles, por que você os serve e faz com que os filhos dos homens erram por causa de suas loucuras?

54And the king said to Abram, Had they power to speak and eat and do as thou hast said? And Abram answered the king, saying, And if there be no power in them why dost thou serve them and cause the sons of men to err through thy follies?

55Você imagina que eles podem te libertar ou fazer algo pequeno ou grande, para que você os sirva? E por que você não sente o Deus de todo o universo, que o criou e em cujo poder está matar e manter vivo?

55Dost thou imagine that they can deliver thee or do anything small or great, that thou shouldst serve them? And why wilt thou not sense the God of the whole universe, who created thee and in whose power it is to kill and keep alive?

56Ó rei tolo, simples e ignorante, ai de ti para sempre.

560 foolish, simple, and ignorant king, woe unto thee forever.

57Pensei que você ensinaria a seus servos o caminho reto, mas você não fez isso, mas encheu a terra inteira com seus pecados e com os pecados de seu povo que seguiu seus caminhos.

57I thought thou wouldst teach thy servants the upright way, but thou hast not done this, but hast filled the whole earth with thy sins and the sins of thy people who have followed thy ways.

58Você não sabe, ou não ouviu, que esse mal que você faz, nossos ancestrais pecaram nele nos tempos antigos, e o Deus eterno trouxe as águas do dilúvio sobre eles e destruiu todos eles, e também destruiu toda a terra por causa deles? E você e seu povo se levantarão agora e farão tal obra, a fim de derrubar a ira do Senhor Deus do universo e trazer o mal sobre você e sobre toda a terra?

58Dost thou not know, or hast thou not heard, that this evil which thou doest, our ancestors sinned therein in days of old, and the eternal God brought the waters of the flood upon them and destroyed them all, and also destroyed the whole earth on their account? And wilt thou and thy people rise up now and do like unto this work, in order to bring down the anger of the Lord God of the universe, and to bring evil upon thee and the whole earth?

59Agora, portanto, deixe de lado esta má ação que você pratica e sirva ao Deus do universo, pois sua alma está em suas mãos, e então tudo ficará bem para você.

59Now therefore put away this evil deed which thou doest, and serve the God of the universe, as thy soul is in his hands, and then it will be well with thee.

60E se teu coração iníquo não der ouvidos às minhas palavras para fazer com que você abandone seus maus caminhos e sirva ao Deus eterno, então você morrerá envergonhado nos últimos dias, você, seu povo e todos os que estão ligados a você, ouvindo suas palavras ou andando em seus maus caminhos.

60And if thy wicked heart will not hearken to my words to cause thee to forsake thy evil ways, and to serve the eternal God, then wilt thou die in shame in the latter days, thou, thy people and all who are connected with thee, hearing thy words or walking in thy evil ways.

61E quando Abrão cessou de falar diante do rei e dos príncipes, Abrão levantou os olhos para os céus e disse: O Senhor vê todos os ímpios e os julgará.

61And when Abram had ceased speaking before the king and princes, Abram lifted up his eyes to the heavens, and he said, The Lord seeth all the wicked, and he will judge them.
