Juízes 21

1Ora, tinham jurado os homens de Israel em Mizpá, dizendo: Nenhum de nós dará sua filha por mulher aos benjamitas.

1Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

2Veio, pois, o povo a Betel, e ali ficou até à tarde diante de Deus; e todos levantaram a sua voz, e prantearam com grande pranto,

2And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

3E disseram: Ah! Senhor Deus de Israel, por que sucedeu isto, que hoje falte uma tribo em Israel?

3And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

4E sucedeu que, no dia seguinte, o povo, pela manhã se levantou, e edificou ali um altar; e ofereceu holocaustos e ofertas pacíficas.

4And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

5E disseram os filhos de Israel: Quem de todas as tribos de Israel não subiu à assembléia do Senhor? Porque se tinha feito um grande juramento acerca dos que não fossem ao Senhor em Mizpá, dizendo: Morrerá certamente.

5And the children of Israel said, Who {is there} among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

6E arrependeram-se os filhos de Israel acerca de Benjamim, seu irmão, e disseram: Cortada é hoje de Israel uma tribo.

6And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

7Como havemos de conseguir mulheres para os que restaram deles, pois nós temos jurado pelo Senhor que nenhuma de nossas filhas lhes daríamos por mulher?

7How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

8E disseram: Há algumas das tribos de Israel que não subiram ao Senhor a Mizpá? E eis que ninguém de Jabes-Gileade viera ao arraial, à assembléia.

8And they said, What one {is there} of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

9Porquanto, quando se contou o povo, eis que nenhum dos moradores de Jabes-Gileade se achou ali.

9For the people were numbered, and, behold, {there were} none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

10Então a assembléia enviou para lá doze mil homens dos mais valentes, e lhes ordenou, dizendo: Ide, e ao fio da espada feri aos moradores de Jabes-Gileade, e às mulheres e aos meninos.

10And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

11Porém isto é o que haveis de fazer: A todo o homem e a toda a mulher que se houver deitado com um homem totalmente destruireis.

11And this {is} the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man. {hath lain...: Heb. knoweth the lying with man}

12E acharam entre os moradores de Jabes-Gileade quatrocentas moças virgens, que não tinham conhecido homem; e as trouxeram ao arraial, a Siló, que está na terra de Canaã.

12And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which {is} in the land of Canaan. {young...: Heb. young women virgins}

13Então toda a assembléia enviou, e falou aos filhos de Benjamim, que estavam na penha de Rimom, e lhes proclamou a paz.

13And the whole congregation sent {some} to speak to the children of Benjamin that {were} in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them. {to speak...: Heb. and spake and called} {call...: or, proclaim peace}

14E ao mesmo tempo voltaram os benjamitas; e deram-lhes as mulheres que haviam guardado com vida, das mulheres de Jabes-Gileade; porém estas ainda não lhes bastaram.

14And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

15Então o povo se arrependeu por causa de Benjamim; porquanto o Senhor tinha feito brecha nas tribos de Israel.

15And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

16E disseram os anciãos da assembléia: Que faremos acerca de mulheres para os que restaram, pois foram destruídas as mulheres de Benjamim?

16Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

17Disseram mais: Tenha Benjamim uma herança nos que restaram, e não seja destruída nenhuma tribo de Israel.

17And they said, {There must be} an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

18Porém nós não lhes poderemos dar mulheres de nossas filhas, porque os filhos de Israel juraram, dizendo: Maldito aquele que der mulher aos benjamitas.

18Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed {be} he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

19Então disseram: Eis que de ano em ano há solenidade do Senhor em Siló, que se celebra para o norte de Betel do lado do nascente do sol, pelo caminho alto que sobe de Betel a Siquém, e para o sul de Lebona.

19Then they said, Behold, {there is} a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly {in a place} which {is} on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah. {yearly: Heb. from year to year} {on the east...: or, toward the sunrising} {of the highway: or, on the highway}

20E mandaram aos filhos de Benjamim, dizendo: Ide, e emboscai-vos nas vinhas.

20Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

21E olhai, e eis aí as filhas de Siló a dançar em rodas, saí vós das vinhas, e arrebatai cada um sua mulher das filhas de Siló, e ide-vos à terra de Benjamim.

21And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

22E será que, quando seus pais ou seus irmãos vierem a litigar conosco, nós lhes diremos: Por amor de nós, tende compaixão deles, pois nesta guerra não tomamos mulheres para cada um deles; porque não lhas destes vós, para que agora ficásseis culpados.

22And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, {that} ye should be guilty. {Be favourable...: or, Gratify us in them}

23E os filhos de Benjamim o fizeram assim, e levaram mulheres conforme ao número deles, das que arrebataram das rodas que dançavam; e foram-se, e voltaram à sua herança, e reedificaram as cidades, e habitaram nelas.

23And the children of Benjamin did so, and took {them} wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

24Também os filhos de Israel partiram dali, cada um para a sua tribo e para a sua família; e saíram dali, cada um para a sua herança.

24And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

25Naqueles dias não havia rei em Israel; porém cada um fazia o que parecia reto aos seus olhos.

25In those days {there was} no king in Israel: every man did {that which was} right in his own eyes.
