Judite 9

1E Judite caiu sobre o rosto, e pôs cinza sobre a cabeça, e descobriu o saco com que estava vestida; e era a hora em que se oferecia o incenso naquela tarde no templo de Deus em Jerusalém; e Judite clamou em alta voz ao Senhor, e disse:

1Judith fell upon her face, and put ashes upon her head, and uncovered the sackcloth wherewith she was clothed; and about the time that the incense of that evening was offered in Jerusalem in the house of the Lord Judith cried with a loud voice, and said,

2Ó Senhor, Deus do meu pai Simeão, a quem deste uma espada para vingança dos estrangeiros que desataram o ventre de uma virgem para a manchar, e descobriram a coxa para a vergonha, e profanaram o ventre para a desonra; pois disseste: Não será assim; e contudo eles o fizeram.

2O Lord God of my father Simeon, to whom thou gavest a sword to take vengeance of the strangers, who loosened the girdle of a maid to defile her, and discovered the thigh to her shame, and polluted her virginity to her reproach; for thou saidst, It shall not be so; and yet they did so:

3Por isso entregaste os seus príncipes à morte, e o seu leito, que se envergonhou do engano que praticaram, ao sangue; e feriste os servos junto com os senhores, e os senhores sobre os seus tronos.

3Wherefore thou gavest their rulers to be slain, so that they dyed their bed in blood, being deceived, and smotest the servants with their lords, and the lords upon their thrones;

4E entregaste as suas mulheres ao despojo, e as suas filhas ao cativeiro, e todos os seus despojos à divisão entre os teus filhos amados, que se inflamaram de zelo por ti, e se horrorizaram da contaminação do seu sangue, e te invocaram em auxílio. Ó Deus, meu Deus, ouve também a mim, viúva.

4And hast given their wives for a prey, and their daughters to be captives, and all their spoils to be divided among thy dear children; which were moved with thy zeal, and abhorred the pollution of their blood, and called upon thee for aid: O God, O my God, hear me also a widow.

5Porque tu fizeste as coisas passadas, e aquelas e as que vieram depois; e pensaste as presentes e as futuras, e vieram a existir as coisas que determinaste.

5For thou hast wrought not only those things, but also the things which fell out before, and which ensued after; thou hast thought upon the things which are now, and which are to come.

6E as coisas que decidiste se apresentaram, e disseram: Eis-nos aqui. Porque todos os teus caminhos estão preparados, e o teu juízo é de presciência.

6Yea, what things thou didst determine were ready at hand, and said, Lo, we are here: for all thy ways are prepared, and thy judgments are in thy foreknowledge.

7Eis que os assírios se multiplicaram no seu poder; exaltam-se com cavalo e cavaleiro; gloriam-se na força dos seus infantes; esperam no escudo e na lança, no arco e na funda, e não sabem que tu és o Senhor que esmaga as guerras.

7For, behold, the Assyrians are multiplied in their power; they are exalted with horse and man; they glory in the strength of their footmen; they trust in shield, and spear, and bow, and sling; and know not that thou art the Lord that breakest the battles: the Lord is thy name.

8Senhor é o teu nome. Quebra a sua força com o teu poder, e derruba a sua cólera com a tua ira; porque planejaram profanar o teu santuário, contaminar o tabernáculo do descanso do teu glorioso nome, e abater com ferro a exaltação do teu altar.

8Throw down their strength in thy power, and bring down their force in thy wrath: for they have purposed to defile thy sanctuary, and to pollute the tabernacle where thy glorious name resteth and to cast down with sword the horn of thy altar.

9Olha para a sua arrogância, envia a tua ira sobre as suas cabeças, e dá na minha mão, que sou viúva, a força que concebi.

9Behold their pride, and send thy wrath upon their heads: give into mine hand, which am a widow, the power that I have conceived.

10Fere pela astúcia dos meus lábios o servo com o príncipe e o príncipe com o servo; quebra a sua altivez pela mão de uma mulher.

10Smite by the deceit of my lips the servant with the prince, and the prince with the servant: break down their stateliness by the hand of a woman.

11Porque a tua força não está na multidão, nem o teu poder nos fortes; mas tu és o Deus dos humildes, o socorro dos pequenos, o amparo dos fracos, o protetor dos desprezados, o salvador dos desesperados.

11For thy power standeth not in multitude nor thy might in strong men: for thou art a God of the afflicted, an helper of the oppressed, an upholder of the weak, a protector of the forlorn, a saviour of them that are without hope.

12Sim, sim, Deus do meu pai e Deus da herança de Israel, Senhor dos céus e da terra, Criador das águas, Rei de toda a tua criação, ouve a minha oração.

12I pray thee, I pray thee, O God of my father, and God of the inheritance of Israel, Lord of the heavens and earth, Creator of the waters, king of every creature, hear thou my prayer:

13E faz a minha palavra e o meu engano ser ferida e chaga para os que planejaram coisas duras contra a tua aliança, e a tua casa santa, e o cume de Sião, e a casa da possessão dos teus filhos.

13And make my speech and deceit to be their wound and stripe, who have purposed cruel things against thy covenant, and thy hallowed house, and against the top of Sion, and against the house of the possession of thy children.

14E faz que toda a tua nação e toda a tribo conheça e saiba que tu és Deus, o Deus de todo o poder e força, e que não há outro protetor do povo de Israel senão tu.

14And make every nation and tribe to acknowledge that thou art the God of all power and might, and that there is none other that protecteth the people of Israel but thou.
