1E ele fez conforme José mandou, e encheu todos os sacos deles com comida e colocou o dinheiro deles em seus sacos, e pôs o caneco no saco de Benjamin.

1And he did as Joseph had told him, and filled all their sacks for them with food and put their money in their sacks, and put the cup in Benjamin's sack.

2E cedo pela manhã eles partiram, e aconteceu quando eles tinham ido dali que José disse ao comissário de sua casa: "Persiga-os, corram e cerquem-nos dizendo: Por bem vós me pagueis com o mal; vocês roubaram de mim minha caneca de prata da qual meu senhor bebe." E me traga novamente o irmão mais novo deles, e busquem ele rápido antes que eu vá adiante para a minha cadeira de julgamento."

2And early in the morning they departed,

3E ele correu atrás deles e disse segundo estas palavras.

3and it came to pass that, when they had gone from thence, Joseph said unto the steward of his house: "Pursue them, run and seize them, saying, 'For good ye have requited me with evil; you have stolen from me the silver cup out of which my lord drinks.'

4E eles disseram a ele: "Deus proíbe que seus servos pratiquem isso, e roubem da casa de teu senhor qualquer utensílio, e o dinheiro que também nós encontramos em nossos sacos da primeira vez, nós teus servos trouxemos de volta da terra de Canaã.

4And bring back to me their youngest brother, and fetch (him) quickly before I go forth to my seat of judgment."

5Como porém roubaríamos algum utensílio? Eis aqui estamos nós e nossos sacos. Procure, e onde quer que tu achar a caneca no saco de qualquer homem dentre nós, que ele seja morto, e nós e nossos jumentos serviremos ao teu senhor."

5And he ran after them and said unto them according to these words.

6E ele disse a eles: "Assim não, que o homem com o qual eu achar ele somente levarei como servo, e vós retornarei em paz para vossa casa."

6And they said unto him: "God forbid that thy servants should do this thing, and steal from the house of thy lord any utensil,

7E a medida que ele procurava nas embarcações deles, começando com o mais velho e terminando com o mais novo, foi encontrada no saco de Benjamin.

7and the money also which we found in our sacks the first time, we thy servants brought back from the land of Canaan.<br>How then should we steal any utensil?

8E eles rasgaram as suas vestes, e carregaram seus jumentos, e voltaram para a cidade e foram a casa de José, e eles todos se dobraram com suas faces no chão diante dele.

8Behold here are we and our sacks; search, and wherever thou findest the cup in the sack of any man amongst us, let him be slain, and we and our asses will serve thy lord."

9E José disse a eles: "Vós praticastes o mal." E eles disseram: "O que diremos e como nos defenderemos? Nosso senhor descobriu a transgressão de seus servos; eis que nós somos servos de nosso senhor e nossos jumentos também."

9And he said unto them: "Not so, the man with whom I find, him only shall I take as a servant, and ye will return in peace unto your house."

10E José disse a eles: "Eu também temo ao Senhor. Quanto a vós, vão para vossas casas e deixem vosso irmão ser meu servo, porque vós praticastes o mal. Não sabem vós que um homem se delicia neste caneco como eu com este caneco? E ainda vós o roubam de mim."

10And as he was searching in their vessels, beginning with the eldest and ending with the youngest, it was found in Benjamin's sack.

11E Judá disse: "O meu senhor, permita que teu servo, eu te rogo, fale uma palavra ao ouvido de meu senhor. Dois irmão a mãe de teu servo deu a luz a nosso pai, mas um se foi perdido, e não foi encontrado, e ele sozinho foi deixado a sua mãe, e teu servo, nosso pai, o ama, e a vida dele também está ligada com a vida deste rapaz.

11And they rent their garments, and laded their asses, and returned to the city

12E acontecerá que quando nós formos a teu servo nosso pai, e o rapaz não estiver conosco, que ele morrerá, e nós derrubaremos nosso pai em lamento para a morte.

12and came to the house of Joseph, and they all bowed themselves on their faces to the ground before him.

13Agora é preferível deixar a mim, teu servo, permanecer no lugar do garoto como escravo a meu senhor, e deixe que o rapaz vá com seus irmãos, porque eu me tornei fiador por ele nas mãos de teu servo nosso pai, e se eu não o trouxer de volta, teu servo ouvirá a culpa de seu pai para sempre."

13And Joseph said unto them: "Ye have done evil."

14E José viu que eles estavam todos concordando em bondade um para com o outro, e ele não pode se conter e contou a eles que ele era José.

14And they said: "What shall we say and how shall we defend ourselves? Our lord hath discovered the transgression of his servants; behold we are the servants of our lord, and our asses also."

15E ele conversou com eles no idioma Hebraico e caiu no pescoço deles e chorou. Mas eles não o reconheceram e começaram a chorar.

15And Joseph said unto them: "I too fear the Lord; as for you, go ye to your homes and let your brother be my servant, for ye have done evil.

16E ele disse a eles: "Não chorem sobre mim, mas se apressem em trazer meu pai para mim, e vós vejam que é a minha boca que falou e os olhos de Benjamin, meu irmão, vejam.

16Know ye not that a man delighteth in his cup as I with this cup? And yet ye have stolen it from me."

17E eis que este é o segundo ano da fome, e haverá ainda cinco anos sem colheita de frutos das árvores ou lavouras.

17And Judah said: "O my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ear;

18Desçam rapidamente vós e vossos servos, para que vós não pereçam pela fome, e não sejam magoados por suas posses, porque o Senhor enviou a mim antes de vós para por as coisas em ordem para que muitas pessoas possam viver.

18two brothers did thy servant's mother bear to our father; one went away and was lost, and hath not been found,

19E digam a meu pai que eu estou vivo, e vós, eis que vós vêem que o Senhor me fez como um pai para o Faraó, e governante sobre a casa dele e sobre a terra do Egito.

19and he alone is left of his mother, and thy servant our father loveth him, and his life also is bound up with the life of this (lad).

20E digam a meu pai sobre toda a minha glória, e toda a riqueza e glória que o Senhor me deu."

20And it will come to pass, when we go to thy servant our father, and the lad is not with us, that he will die, and we shall bring down our father with sorrow unto death.

21E pela ordem da boca do Faraó ele os deu carruagens e provisões para o caminho, e ele os deu roupas multicoloridas e prateadas.

21Now rather let me, thy servant, abide instead of the boy as a bondsman unto my lord, and let the lad go with his brethren,

22E ao pai deles ele enviou vestes de prata e dez jumentos carregando milho, e ele os despachou.

22for I became surety for him at the hand of thy servant our father, and if I do not bring him back, thy servant will bear the blame to our father for ever."

23E eles subiram e contaram ao pai deles que José estava vivo, e estava regulando o milho a todas as nações da terra, e que ele era governante sobre toda a terra do Egito.

23And Joseph saw that they were all accordant in goodness one with another, and he could not refrain himself, and he told them that he was Joseph.

24E o pai deles não acreditou, porque ele estava fora de si em sua mente; mas quando ele viu as carruagens que José havia enviado, a vida de seu espírito reviveu e ele disse: "É suficiente para mim que José esteja vivo; eu descerei e o verei antes que eu morra."

24And he conversed with them in the Hebrew tongue and fell on their neck and wept. But they knew him not and they began to weep.

25—

25And he said unto them: "Weep not over me, but hasten and bring my father to me; and ye see that it is my mouth that speaketh and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see.

26—

26For behold this is the second year of the famine, and there are still five years without harvest or fruit of trees or ploughing.

27—

27Come down quickly ye and your households, so that ye perish not through the famine, and do not be grieved for your possessions,

28—

28for the Lord sent me before you to set things in order that many people might live.

29—

29And tell my father that I am still alive, and ye, behold, ye see that the Lord hath made me as a father to Pharaoh, and ruler over his house and over all the land of Egypt.

30—

30And tell my father of all my glory, and all the riches and glory that the Lord hath given Me."

31—

31And by the command of the mouth of Pharaoh he gave them chariots and provisions for the way, and he gave them all many-coloured raiment and silver.

32—

32And to their father he sent raiment and silver and ten asses which carried corn,

33—

33and he sent them away. And they went up and told their father that Joseph was alive, and was measuring out corn to all the nations of the earth, and that he was ruler over all the land of Egypt.

34—

34And their father did not believe it, for he was beside himself in his mind;

35—

35but when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent, the life of his spirit revived,

36—

36and he said: "It is enough for me if Joseph liveth; I will go down and see him before I die."
