Jubileus 42

1E no primeiro ano da terceira semana do quadragésimo quinto jubileu a fome começou a chegar na terra, e a chuva recusou-se a ser dada para a terra, porque nenhuma água caiu.

1And in the first year of the third week of the forty-fifth jubilee the famine began to come into the land, and the rain refused to be given to the earth, for none whatever fell.<br>And the earth grew barren,

2E a terra tornou-se estéril, mas na terra do Egito havia comida, porque José havia estocado as sementes da terra nos sete anos de abundância e as havia preservado.

2but in the land of Egypt there was food,

3E os egípcios vieram a José para que ele pudesse dar-lhe comida, e ele abriu os armazéns onde estavam os grãos do primeiro ano, e ele vendeu-os para as pessoas da terra por ouro. Agora a fome estava bastante severa na terra da Canaã.

3for Joseph had gathered the seed of the land in the seven years of plenty and had preserved it.

4E Jacó ouviu que havia comida no Egito, e ele enviou seus dez filhos para que eles procurassem comida no Egito, mas Benjamin ele não enviou. E os dez filhos de Jacó chegaram no Egito dentre aqueles que estavam.

4And the Egyptians came to Joseph that he might give them food, and he opened the storehouses where was the grain of the first year, and he sold it to the people of the land for gold.

5E José os reconheceu, mas eles não reconheceram ele , e ele falou com eles e os questionou, e ele disse a eles: "Vocês não são espiões e não vieram espionar essa faixa de terra? E ele os pôs na prisão.

5(Now the famine was very sore in the land of Canaan), and Jacob heard that there was food in Egypt, and he sent his ten sons that they should procure food for him in Egypt; but Benjamin he did not send,

6E depois disso ele os libertou novamente, e reteve Simeão sozinho e despachou seus nove irmãos.

6and (the ten sons of Jacob) arrived (in Egypt) among those that went (there.)<br>And Joseph recognized them, but they did not recognize him,

7E ele encheu os sacos deles com milho, e ele pôs o ouro deles nos sacos deles, mas eles não sabiam.

7and he spake unto them and questioned them, and he said unto them: "Are ye not spies, and have ye not come to explore the approaches of the land?"

8E ele os ordenou que trouxessem seu irmão mais novo, porque eles o haviam dito que o pai deles e seu irmão mais novo estavam vivos.

8And he put them in ward.<br>And after that he set them free again, and detained Simeon alone and sent off his nine brothers.

9E eles subiram da terra do Egito e foram para a terra de Canaã; e eles contaram a seu pai tudo o que havia acontecido a eles, e como o senhor do país havia falado com eles com dureza, e havia prendido Simeão até que eles trouxessem Benjamin.

9And he filled their sacks with corn, and he put their gold in their sacks, and they did not know.

10E Jacó disse: "Vós também me fazem sem filhos! José está ausente, e também Simeão, e também querem levar de mim Benjamin? Em mim sobreveio a vossa maldade!"

10And he commanded them to bring their younger brother, for they had told him their father was living and their younger brother.

11E ele disse: "Meu filho não irá convosco para que não venha a cair doente, porque sua mãe deu a luz a dois filhos, e um pereceu, e ainda este outro vocês querem tirar de mim. Se por ventura ele tiver febre na estrada, vocês me trariam em minha idade avançada em lamento para a morte."

11And they went up from the land of Egypt and they came to the land of Canaan; and they told their father all that had befallen them,

12Porque ele viu que o dinheiro deles havia retornado a cada homem em seu saco, e por esta razão ele temeu em enviá-lo.

12and how the lord of the country had spoken roughly to them, and had seized Simeon till they should bring Benjamin.

13E a fome aumentou e tornou-se severa na terra de Canaã, e em todas as terras salvo a terra do Egito, porque muitos dos filhos dos egípcios haviam estocado suas sementes para alimento do tempo quando eles viram José estocando sementes e ajuntando-as em armazéns e preservando-as para os anos de fome.

13And Jacob said: "Me have ye bereaved of my children! Joseph is not and Simeon also is not, and ye will take Benjamin away. On me hath your wickedness come."

14E o povo do Egito alimentou-se durante o primeiro ano da fome.

14And he said: "My son will not go down with you lest perchance he fall sick;

15Mas quando Israel viu que a fome estava muito severa na terra, e que não havia livramento, ele disse a seus filhos: "Vão novamente, e procurem comida para que nós não morramos."

15for their mother gave birth to two sons, and one hath perished, and this one also ye will take from me. If perchance he took a fever on the road, ye would bring down my old age with sorrow unto death."

16E eles disseram: "Nós não iremos a não ser que nosso irmão mais novo vá conosco, nós não iremos."

16For he saw that their money had been returned to every man in his sack, and for this reason he feared to send him.

17E Israel viu que se ele não enviasse-o com eles, eles todos pereceriam em razão da fome.

17And the famine increased and became sore in the land of Canaan, and in all lands save in the land of Egypt,

18E Rubem disse: "Dê-o em minha mão, e se eu não os trouxer novamente a ti, mate meus dois filhos em lugar da vida dele." E ele disse a ele : "Ele não irá contigo."

18for many of the children of the Egyptians had stored up their seed for food from the time when they saw Joseph gathering seed together and putting it in storehouses and preserving it for the years of famine.

19E Judá aproximou-se e disse: "Envie-o comigo, e se eu não o trouxer novamente comigo, que eu carregue a culpa diante de ti todos os dias de minha vida."

19And the people of Egypt fed themselves thereon during the first year of their famine.

20E ele o enviou com eles no segundo ano dessa semana no primeiro dia do mês, e eles vieram para a terra do Egito com todos aqueles que haviam ido, e presentes em suas mãos, estoraque e amêndoas e nozes de carvalho e mel puro.

20But when Israel saw that the famine was very sore in the land, and there was no deliverance, he said unto his sons: "Go again, and procure food for us that we die not."

21E eles foram e ficaram diante de José, e ele viu Benjamin, seu irmão, e ele o conheceu, e disse a eles: "É este seu irmão mais novo?" E eles disseram a ele: "É ele." E ele disse: "O Senhor seja gracioso para contigo meu filho!"

21And they said: "We shall not go; unless our youngest brother go with us, we shall not go."

22E ele o enviou para sua casa e trouxe Simeão para eles e ele fez uma festa para eles, e eles apresentaram-lhe os presentes que eles trouxeram em suas mãos.

22And Israel saw that if he did not send him with them, they should all perish by reason of the famine.

23E eles comeram diante dele e ele deu a eles todos uma porção, mas a porção de Benjamin era sete vezes maior que a de qualquer deles.

23And Reuben said: "Give him into my hand, and if I do not bring him back to thee, slay my two sons instead of his soul." And he said unto him: "He will not go with thee."

24E eles comeram e beberam e levantaram-se e montaram-se em seus jumentos.

24And Judah came near and said: "Send him with me, and if I do not bring him back to thee, let me bear the blame before thee all the days of my life."

25E José bolou um planos pelo qual ele pudesse saber os pensamentos deles se pensamentos de paz prevaleciam entre eles, e ele disse ao comissário que estava sobre sua casa: "Encha todos os sacos deles com comida, e retorne a eles o seu dinheiro nas embarcações deles, e meu caneco, o caneco de prata no qual eu bebo, ponha no saco do mais novo, e os envie embora."

25And he sent him with them in the second year of this week on the first day of the month, and they came to the land of Egypt with all those who went, and (they had) presents in their hands, stacte and almonds and terebinth nuts and pure honey.

26And they went and stood before Joseph, and he saw Benjamin his brother, and he knew him, and said unto them: "Is this your youngest brother?"

27—

27And they said unto him: "It is he." And he said: "The Lord be gracious to thee, my son!"

28—

28And he sent him into his house and he brought forth Simeon unto them and he made a feast for them

29—

29and they presented to him the gift which they had brought in their hands.<br>And they ate before him and he gave them all a portion, but the portion of Benjamin was seven times larger than that of any of theirs.

30—

30And they ate and drank and arose and remained with their asses.

31—

31And Joseph devised a plan whereby he might learn their thoughts as to whether thoughts of peace prevailed amongst them,

32—

32and he said to the steward who was over his house: "Fill all their sacks with food, and return their money unto them into their vessels,

33—

33and my cup, the silver cup out of which I drink, put it in the sack of the youngest, and send them away."
