Jubileus 37

1E no dia em que Isaque, pai de Jacó e Esaú morreu, os filhos de Esaú ouviram que Isaque havia dado a porção do primogênito para seu filho mais novo Jacó e eles ficaram muito bravos.

1And on the day that Isaac the father of Jacob and Esau died, the sons of Esau heard that Isaac had given the portion of the elder to his younger son Jacob and they were very angry.

2E eles lutaram com seu pai dizendo: "Porque teu pai deu a Jacó a porção do primogênito e a passou de ti, mesmo sendo tu o filho mais velho e Jacó o mais novo?"

2And they strove with their father, saying: "Why hath thy father given Jacob the portion of the elder and passed over thee, although thou art the elder and Jacob the younger?"

3E ele disse a eles: "Porque eu vendi meu direito de primogenitura a Jacó por um pequeno prato de lentilhas, e no dia em que meu pai me enviou para caçar e capturar e trazê-lo algo para que ele pudesse comer e me abençoar, ele veio com astúcia e trouxe a meu pai comida e bebida, e meu pai abençoou ele e me pôs debaixo de sua mão.

3And he said unto them "Because I sold my birthright to Jacob for a small mess of lentils;

4E agora nosso pai nos fez jurar, eu e ele , que nós não deveríamos desejar o mal um ao outro, cada um contra seu irmão, e que nós deveríamos continuar em amor e em paz cada um com seu irmão e não corromper nossos caminhos."

4and on the day my father sent me to hunt and catch and bring him something that he should eat and bless me, he came with guile and brought my father food and drink, and my father blessed him and put me under his hand.

5E eles disseram a ele , "Nós não vamos lhe dar ouvidos e fazer paz com ele; porque nossa força é maior que a força dele, e nós somos mais poderosos que ele; nós iremos contra ele e o mataremos, e destruiremos a ele e aos seus filhos. E se tu não fores conosco nós feriremos também a ti.

5And now our father hath caused us to swear, me and him, that we shall not mutually devise evil, either against his brother, and that we shall continue in love and in peace each with his brother and not make our ways corrupt."

6E agora ouça-nos: Deixe-nos enviar Arã, Philistia, Moab e Ammon, e deixe que eles escolham para nós homens escolhidos que são ardentes por batalha, e deixe-nos ir contra eles e fazer guerra contra ele, e que nós o exterminemos da terra antes que ele se fortaleça."

6And they said unto him, "We shall not hearken unto thee to make peace with him; for our strength is greater than his strength, and we are more powerful than he;

7E o pai deles disse a eles, "Não vão nem façam guerra contra ele para que não venham a cair diante dele."

7we shall go against him and slay him, and destroy him and his sons. And if thou wilt not go with us, we shall do hurt to thee also.

8E eles disseram para ele, "Também esse é exatamente teu jeito de agir desde tua juventude até este dia, e tu tem colocado teu pescoço debaixo do jugo dele . E nós não ouviremos essas palavras."

8And now hearken unto us: Let us send to Aram and Philistia and Moab and Ammon, and let us choose for ourselves chosen men who are ardent for battle, and let us go against him and do battle with him, and let us exterminate him from the earth before he groweth strong."

9E eles enviaram Arã para Aduram para o amigo de seu pai, e eles contrataram com eles mil homens guerrilheiros, homens escolhidos de guerra.

9And their father said unto them, "Do not go and do not make war with him lest ye fall before him."

10E eles vieram para eles de Moab e dos filhos de Ammon, aqueles que foram contratados, mil homens escolhidos, e da Philistia, mil homens escolhidos de guerra, e de Edom e dos Horitas mil homens escolhidos guerrilheiros, e de Quitim poderosos homens de guerra.

10And they said unto him, "This too, is exactly thy mode of action from thy youth until this day, and thou art putting thy neck under his yoke. We shall not hearken to these words."

11E eles disseram para seu pai: "Vá adiante e lidere-os, caso contrário nós te mataremos."

11And they sent to Aram, and to ’Adurâm to the friend of their father, and they hired along with them one thousand fighting men, chosen men of war.

12E ele estava cheio de ira e indignação por ver que seus filhos o estavam forçando a ir adiante e liderá-los contra Jacó, seu irmão.

12And there came to them from Moab and from the children of Ammon, those who were hired, one thousand chosen men, and from Philistia, one thousand chosen men of war, and from Edom and from the Horites one thousand chosen fighting men, and from the Kittim mighty men of war.

13Mas depois ele lembrou-se de todo o mal que deitava escondido em seu coração contra Jacó, seu irmão; e ele não se lembrou do juramento que ele havia jurado a seu pai e a sua mãe de que ele não desejaria nenhum mal contra Jacó, seu irmão, por todos os seus dias.

13And they said unto their father: "Go forth with them and lead them, else we shall slay thee."<br>And he was filled with wrath and indignation on seeing that his sons were forcing him to go before (them) to lead them against Jacob his brother.

14E não bastasse tudo isso, Jacó não sabia que eles estavam vindo contra ele para guerra, e ele estava de luto por Lia, sua esposa, até que eles se aproximaram bem perto da torre com quatro mil guerreiros, homens escolhidos de guerra.

14But afterward he remembered all the evil which lay hidden in his heart against Jacob his brother; and he remembered not the oath which he had sworn to his father and to his mother that he would devise no evil all his days against Jacob his brother.

15E os homens de Hebrom enviaram a ele dizendo, "Eis que teu irmão veio contra ti, para lutar contra ti, com quatro mil cingidos com espada, e eles carregam escudos e armas!" porque eles amavam mais Jacó que Esaú. Então eles lhe contaram; porque Jacó era mais liberal e misericordioso que Esaú.

15And notwithstanding all this, Jacob knew not that they were coming against him to battle, and he was mourning for Leah, his wife, until they approached very near to the tower with four thousand warriors and chosen men of war.

16Mas Jacó não acreditou até que eles chegaram bem perto da torre.

16And the men of Hebron sent to him saying, "Behold thy brother hath come against thee, to fight thee, with four thousand girt with the sword, and they carry shields and weapons";

17E ele fechou os portões da torre; e ele ficou sobre o pináculo e falou com seu Irmão Esaú e disse: "Nobre é o conforto com o qual tu vens me consolar pela minha esposa que morreu. É este o juramento que tu juraste a teu pai e novamente a tua mãe antes deles morrerem? Tu quebraste o juramento, e no momento que tu juraste a teu pai tu foste condenado."

17for they loved Jacob more than Esau. So they told him; for Jacob was a more liberal and merciful man than Esau.

18E então Esaú respondeu e disse a ele, "Nem os filhos dos homens nem as bestas da terra cumprem qualquer juramento com justiça desde sempre; mas em cada dia eles desejam o mal uns aos outros, e como cada um pode matar seu adversário e inimigo.

18But Jacob would not believe until they came very near to the tower.

19E tu odeias a mim e a meus filhos para sempre. E não ha observância de amor fraternal contigo.

19And he closed the gates of the tower; and he stood on the battlements and spake to his brother Esau and said, "Noble is the comfort wherewith thou hast come to comfort me for my wife who hath died.

20Ouça essas palavras que eu te digo: Se o javali pode mudar sua pele e fazer suas cerdas serem tão suaves como a lã, ou se ele pode fazer com que brotem chifres de sua cabeça como os chifres de um veado ou de uma ovelha, então eu observarei o amor fraternal contigo. E se os seios se separassem da mãe, tu não serias meu irmão.

20Is this the oath that thou didst swear to thy father and again to thy mother before they died? Thou hast broken the oath, and on the moment that thou didst swear to thy father wast thou condemned."

21E se os lobos fizerem paz com os cordeiros de modo a não devorá-los nem praticarem violência contra eles, e se os corações estivessem voltados para eles para o bem, então haveria paz em meu coração voltado para ti.

21And then Esau answered and said unto him, "Neither the children of men nor the beasts of the earth have any oath of righteousness which in swearing they have sworn (an oath valid) for ever; but every day they devise evil one against another, and how each may slay his adversary and foe.

22E se o leão se tornar amigo do novilho e fizer paz com ele, e se ele fosse preso sobre o mesmo julgo dele e sobre o seu mesmo arado, então eu faria paz contigo.

22And thou dost hate me and my children for ever. And there is no observing the tie of brotherhood with thee.

23E quando o corvo se tornar branco como a rasa, então saiba que eu te amei e fazer paz contigo. Tu serás exterminado e teus filhos serão exterminados, e não haverá paz para ti."

23Hear these words which I declare unto thee, If the boar can change its skin and make its bristles as soft as wool, Or if it can cause horns to sprout forth on its head like the horns of a stag or of a sheep, Then shall I observe the tie of brotherhood with thee.

24E quando Jacó viu que ele estava maldosamente disposto contra ele com todo o seu coração, e com toda a sua alma para matá-lo, e que ele veio correndo como o javali selvagem que vem para a lança e é furado e morto, e não recua;

24And if the breasts separated themselves from their mother; for thou hast not been a brother to me.]<br>And if the wolves make peace with the lambs so as not to devour or do them violence, And if their hearts are towards them for good, Then there will be peace in my heart towards thee.

25então ele falou com os seus e com seus servos que eles deviam atacálo e todos os seus companheiros.

25And if the lion becometh the friend of the ox and maketh peace with him, And if he is bound under one yoke with him and plougheth with him, Then shall I make peace with thee.

26—

26And when the raven becometh white as the râzâ, Then know that I have loved thee And shall make peace with thee.

27—

27Thou shalt be rooted out, And thy sons shall be rooted out, And there shall be no peace for thee."

28—

28And when Jacob saw that he was (so) evilly disposed towards him with his heart, and with all his soul as to slay him, and that he had come springing like the wild boar which cometh upon the spear that pierceth and killeth it, and recoileth not from it;

29—

29Then he spake to his own and to his servants that they should attack him and all his companions.
