1Enquanto meu pai José permanecia viúvo, minha mãe Maria vivia no templo, servindo a Deus em toda a santidade.

1While my father Joseph remained a widower, my mother Mary lived in the temple, serving God in all holiness.

2Ela havia já completado doze anos. Passara os seus três primeiros anos na casa de seus pais.

2She had already completed twelve years. She spent her first three years in her parents' house.

3Os nove anos restantes viveu no templo do Senhor.

3The remaining nine years she lived in the temple of the Lord.

4Os sacerdotes disseram: 'Busquemos um homem de bem para o casamento com ela.'

4The priests said: 'Let us find a good man for her marriage.'

5'Não seja por descuido nosso que lhe sobrevenha o período de sua purificação no templo.'

5'Let it not be through our negligence that the period of her purification comes upon her in the temple.'

6Convocaram as tribos de Judá e escolheram doze homens.

6They summoned the tribes of Judah and chose twelve men.

7A sorte recaiu sobre o bom velho José, meu pai segundo a carne.
