1Tendo assim falado, abracei o corpo de meu pai José e chorei sobre ele; e abriram a porta do sepulcro e colocaram o seu corpo nele, junto ao corpo de seu pai Jacó. E no tempo em que adormeceu havia completado cento e onze anos. Nunca lhe doeu dente algum na boca, nem a sua vista se tornou menos aguda, nem o seu corpo se curvou, nem a sua força se abateu; mas trabalhou no seu ofício de carpinteiro até o derradeiro dia de sua vida; e esse foi o vigésimo sexto dia do mês de Abib.

1Having thus spoken, I embraced the body of my father Joseph, and wept over it; and they opened the door of the tomb, and placed his body in it, near the body of his father Jacob. And at the time when he fell asleep he had fulfilled a hundred and eleven years. Never did a tooth in his mouth hurt him, nor was his eyesight rendered less sharp, nor his body bent, nor his strength impaired; but he worked at his trade of a carpenter to the very last day of his life; and that was the six-and-twentieth of the month Abib.
