1E, enquanto Asenath ainda dizia essas palavras para si mesma, eis! um jovem, um dos servos de José, dizendo: "José, o poderoso homem de Deus, vem até você hoje."

1And, while Asenath was yet speaking these words to herself, lo! a young man, one of the servants of Joseph, saying: "Joseph, the mighty man of God, cometh to you to-day."

2E imediatamente Asenath chamou o superintendente de sua casa e disse-lhe: "Apresse-se e prepare minha casa e prepare um bom jantar, para que José, o poderoso homem de Deus, venha até nós hoje."

2And straightway Asenath called the overseer of her house and said to him: "Haste and prepare mine house and make a good dinner ready, for that Joseph, the mighty man of God, cometh to us to-day."

3E o superintendente da casa quando a viu (pois seu rosto havia encolhido devido aos sete dias de aflição, choro e abstinência) ficou triste e chorou; e ele pegou a mão direita dela e beijou-a com ternura e disse: "O que há com você, minha senhora, para que seu rosto esteja tão encolhido?"

3And the overseer of the house when he saw her (for her face had shrunk from the seven days' affliction and weeping and abstinence) sorrowed and wept; and he took hold of her right hand and kissed it tenderly and said: "What aileth thee, my lady, that thy face is thus shrunken?"

4E ela disse: “Senti muitas dores na cabeça e o sono desapareceu dos meus olhos”. Então o superintendente da casa foi embora e preparou a casa e o jantar. E Asenath lembrou-se das palavras do anjo e de suas injunções, e apressou-se e entrou em sua segunda câmara, onde estavam os baús de seu adorno, e abriu seu grande cofre e tirou seu primeiro manto como um relâmpago para vê-lo e vesti-lo; e ela também se cingiu com um cinto brilhante e real que era de ouro e pedras preciosas, e nas mãos ela colocou pulseiras de ouro, e nos pés coturnos de ouro, e um ornamento precioso em volta do pescoço, e uma coroa de ouro ela colocou sobre a cabeça; e na coroa, como em sua frente, havia uma grande pedra de safira, e ao redor da grande pedra seis pedras de grande valor, e com um manto maravilhoso ela cobriu a cabeça.

4And she said: "I have had great pain about mine head, and sleep departed from mine eyes." Then the overseer of the house went away and prepared the house and the dinner. And Asenath remembered the angel's words and his injunctions, and hasted and entered her second chamber, where the chests of her adorning were, and opened her great coffer and brought out her first robe like lightning to behold and put it on; and she girded herself also with a girdle bright and royal that was of gold and precious stones, and on her hands she put golden bracelets, and upon her feet golden buskins, and a precious ornament about her neck, and a golden wreath she put about her head; and on the wreath as upon its front was a great sapphire stone, and round the great stone six stones of great price, and with a very marvellous mantle she veiled her head.

5And, when Asenath remembered the words of the overseer of her house, for that he said to her that her face had shrunk, she sorrowed exceedingly, and groaned and said: "Woe is me, the lowly one, since my face is shrunken. Joseph will see me thus and I shall be set at naught by him."

6E ela disse à sua serva: “Traga-me água pura da fonte”. E, depois de trazê-lo, despejou-o na bacia e, curvando-se para lavar o rosto, viu seu próprio rosto brilhando como o sol, e seus olhos como a estrela da manhã quando nasce, e suas bochechas como uma estrela do céu, e seus lábios como rosas vermelhas, os cabelos de sua cabeça eram como a videira que floresce entre seus frutos no paraíso de Deus, seu pescoço como um cipreste todo variegado.

6And she saith to her handmaid, "Bring me pure water from the fountain." And, when she had brought it, she poured it out into the basin, and, bending down to wash her face, she seeth her own face shining like the sun, and her eyes as the morning-star when it riseth, and her cheeks as a star of heaven, and her lips as red roses, the hairs of her head were as the vine that bloometh among his fruits in the paradise of God, her neck as an all-variegated cypress.

7E Asenath, quando ela viu essas coisas, maravilhou-se com a visão e regozijou-se com grande alegria e não lavou o rosto, pois ela disse: "Para que eu não lave esta grande e atraente beleza." O superintendente de sua casa então voltou para lhe dizer: “Tudo o que ordenaste foi feito”; e, ao vê-la, teve muito medo e foi tomado de tremores por um longo tempo, e caiu aos pés dela e começou a dizer: “O que é isso, minha senhora?

7And Asenath, when she saw these things, marvelled in herself at the sight and rejoiced with exceeding great joy and washed not her face, for she said, "Lest I wash off this great and comely beauty." The overseer of her house then came back to tell her, "All things are done that thou commandedst"; and, when he beheld her, he feared greatly and was seized with trembling for a long time, and he fell at her feet and began to say: "What is this, my mistress? What is this beauty that surroundeth thee that is great and marvellous? Hath the Lord God of Heaven chosen thee as bride for his son Joseph?"
