José e Asenete 16

1E Asenath apressou-se e colocou uma mesa vazia diante dele; e, quando ela ia buscar o pão, o anjo divino lhe disse: “Traga-me também um favo de mel”. E ela ficou parada e ficou perplexa e triste por não ter um favo de abelha em seu armazém.

1And Asenath hasted and set an empty table before him; and, as she was starting to fetch bread, the divine angel saith to her: "Bring me also an honeycomb." And she stood still and was perplexed and grieved for that she had not a bee's comb in her storehouse.

2E o anjo divino lhe disse: “Por que você está parada?” E ela disse: “Meu senhor, enviarei um menino ao subúrbio, porque a posse de nossa herança está próxima, e ele virá e trará uma rapidamente de lá, e eu a colocarei diante de ti”.

2And the divine angel saith to her: "Wherefore standest thou still?" And she said: "My lord, I will send a boy to the suburb, because the possession of our inheritance is near, and he will come and bring one quickly thence, and I will set it before thee."

3O anjo divino lhe disse: "Entre no seu armazém e você encontrará um favo de abelha sobre a mesa; pegue-o e traga-o aqui." E ela disse: “Senhor, não há favo de abelha no meu armazém”. E ele disse: “Vá e você encontrará”.

3The divine angel saith to her: "Enter thy storehouse and thou wilt find a bee's comb lying upon the table; take it up and bring it hither." And she said, "Lord, there is no bee's comb in my storehouse." And he said, "Go and thou wilt find."

4E Asenath entrou em seu armazém e encontrou um favo de mel sobre a mesa; e o favo era grande e branco como a neve e cheio de mel, e aquele mel era como o orvalho do céu, e seu odor como o odor da vida.

4And Asenath entered her storehouse and found an honeycomb lying upon the table; and the comb was great and white like snow and full of honey, and that honey was as the dew of heaven, and the odour thereof as the odour of life.

5Então Asenath se perguntou e disse consigo mesma: “Este pente saiu da boca deste próprio homem?” E Asenath pegou aquele favo e o trouxe e o colocou sobre a mesa, e o anjo disse a ela: “Por que é que você disse: 'Não há favo de mel em minha casa', e eis! E ela disse: “Senhor, nunca coloquei um favo de mel em minha casa, mas como disseste, foi feito. Saiu isto da tua boca?

5Then Asenath wondered and said in herself: "Is this comb from the mouth of this man himself?" And Asenath took that comb and brought it and set it forth upon the table, and the angel said to her: "Why is it that thou saidst, 'There is no honeycomb in mine house,' and lo! thou hast brought it me?" And she said: "Lord, I have never put an honeycomb in mine house, but as thou saidst so it hath been made. Came this forth from thy mouth? for that the odour thereof is as the odour of ointment."

6E o homem sorriu com a compreensão de Asenath. Então ele a chamou para si e, quando ela chegou, ele estendeu a mão direita e segurou a cabeça dela, e, quando ele balançou a cabeça dela com a mão direita, Asenath temeu muito a mão do anjo, pois faíscas saíam de suas mãos à maneira do ferro em brasa, e conseqüentemente ela estava o tempo todo olhando com muito medo e tremendo para a mão do anjo.

6And the man smiled at Asenath's understanding. Then he calleth her to himself, and, when she came, he stretched out his right hand and took hold of her head, and, when he shook her head with his right hand, Asenath feared the angel's hand greatly, for that sparks proceeded from his hands after the manner of red-hot iron, and accordingly she was all the time gazing with much fear and trembling at the angel's hand.

7E ele sorriu e disse: "Bem-aventurado és tu, Asenath, porque os mistérios inefáveis de Deus foram revelados a ti; e bem-aventurados são todos os que se apegam ao Senhor Deus em penitência, porque comerão deste favo, pois este favo é o espírito da vida, e isto as abelhas do paraíso do deleite fizeram do orvalho das rosas da vida que estão no paraíso de Deus e de cada flor, e dele comem os anjos e todos os eleitos de Deus e todos os filhos do Altíssimo; e qualquer que dele comer não morrerá para sempre”.

7And he smiled and said: "Blessed art thou, Asenath, because the ineffable mysteries of God have been revealed to thee; and blessed are all who cleave to the Lord God in penitence, because they shall eat of this comb, for that this comb is the spirit of life, and this the bees of the paradise of delight have made from the dew of the roses of life that are in the paradise of God and every flower, and of it eat the angels and all the elect of God and all the sons of the Most High, and whosoever shall eat of it shall not die forever."

8Então o anjo divino estendeu a mão direita e pegou um pedacinho do pente e comeu, e com a própria mão colocou o que sobrou na boca de Asenath e disse-lhe: “Coma”, e ela comeu.

8Then the divine angel stretched out his right hand and took a small piece from the comb and ate, and with his own hand placed what was left in Asenath's mouth and said to her, "Eat," and she ate.

9E o anjo disse a ela: "Eis que agora você comeu o pão da vida e bebeu o cálice da imortalidade e foi ungida com a unção da incorrupção; eis! agora hoje tua carne produz flores de vida da fonte do Altíssimo, e teus ossos serão engordados como os cedros do paraíso de deleite de Deus e poderes incansáveis ​​te sustentarão; conseqüentemente, tua juventude não verá a velhice, nem tua beleza falhará para sempre, mas tu será como uma cidade-mãe murada para todos."

9And the angel saith to her: "Lo! now thou hast eaten the bread of life and hast drunk the cup of immortality and been anointed with the unction of incorruption; lo! now to-day thy flesh produceth flowers of life from the fountain of the Most High, and thy bones shall be made fat like the cedars of the paradise of delight of God and unwearying powers shall maintain thee; accordingly thy youth shall not see old age, nor shall thy beauty fail for ever, but thou shalt be as a walled mother-city of all."

10E o anjo disse ao favo, e muitas abelhas surgiram das células daquele favo, e as células eram incontáveis, dezenas de milhares de dezenas de milhares e milhares de milhares. E as abelhas também eram brancas como a neve, e as suas asas como matéria púrpura, carmesim e escarlate; e também tiveram ferroadas agudas e não feriram ninguém.

10And the angel said to the comb, and many bees arose from the cells of that comb, and the cells were numberless, tens of thousands of tens of thousands and thousands of thousands. And the bees also were white like snow, and their wings as purple and crimson stuff and as scarlet; and they had also sharp stings and injured no man.

11Então todas aquelas abelhas cercaram Asenath dos pés à cabeça, e outras grandes abelhas como suas rainhas surgiram das celas, e circularam em volta de seu rosto e de seus lábios, e fizeram um pente em sua boca e em seus lábios como o pente que estava diante do anjo; e todas aquelas abelhas comeram do favo que estava na boca de Asenath.

11Then all those bees encircled Asenath from feet to head, and other great bees like their queens arose from the cells, and they circled round upon her face and upon her lips, and made a comb upon her mouth and upon her lips like the comb that lay before the angel; and all those bees ate from the comb that was upon Asenath's mouth.

12E o anjo disse às abelhas: “Vão agora para o seu lugar”. Então todas as abelhas levantaram-se e voaram e partiram para o céu; mas todos os que desejaram ferir Asenath caíram no chão e morreram.

12And the angel said to the bees, "Go now to your place." Then all the bees rose and flew and departed to heaven; but as many as wished to injure Asenath all fell upon the earth and died.

13E então o anjo estendeu seu cajado sobre as abelhas mortas e disse-lhes: "Levantem-se e partam também para o seu lugar." Então todas as abelhas mortas se levantaram e partiram para o pátio adjacente à casa de Asenath e se alojaram nas árvores frutíferas.

13And thereupon the angel stretched his staff over the dead bees and said to them: "Rise and depart ye also into your place." Then all the dead bees rose and departed into the court that adjoined Asenath's house and took up their lodging upon the fruit-bearing trees.
