João 4

1E quando o Senhor entendeu que os fariseus tinham ouvido que Jesus fazia e batizava mais discípulos do que João

1When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2(Ainda que Jesus mesmo não batizava, mas os seus discípulos),

2(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3Deixou a Judéia, e foi outra vez para a Galiléia.

3He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

4E era-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.

4And he must needs go through Samaria.

5Foi, pois, a uma cidade de Samaria, chamada Sicar, junto da herdade que Jacó tinha dado a seu filho José.

5Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6E estava ali a fonte de Jacó. Jesus, pois, cansado do caminho, assentou-se assim junto da fonte. Era isto quase à hora sexta.

6Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with {his} journey, sat thus on the well: {and} it was about the sixth hour.

7Veio uma mulher de Samaria tirar água. Disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.

7There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8Porque os seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade comprar comida.

8(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9Disse-lhe, pois, a mulher samaritana: Como, sendo tu judeu, me pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher samaritana? (porque os judeus não se comunicam com os samaritanos).

9Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.

10Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo; onde, pois, tens a água viva?

11The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12És tu maior do que o nosso pai Jacó, que nos deu o poço, bebendo ele próprio dele, e os seus filhos, e o seu gado?

12Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Qualquer que beber desta água tornará a ter sede;

13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14Mas aquele que beber da água que eu lhe der nunca terá sede, porque a água que eu lhe der se fará nele uma fonte de água que salte para a vida eterna.

14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me dessa água, para que não mais tenha sede, e não venha aqui tirá-la.

15The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, chama o teu marido, e vem cá.

16Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17A mulher respondeu, e disse: Não tenho marido. Disse-lhe Jesus: Disseste bem: Não tenho marido;

17The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18Porque tiveste cinco maridos, e o que agora tens não é teu marido; isto disseste com verdade.

18For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, vejo que és profeta.

19The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20Nossos pais adoraram neste monte, e vós dizeis que é em Jerusalém o lugar onde se deve adorar.

20Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, crê-me que a hora vem, em que nem neste monte nem em Jerusalém adorareis o Pai.

21Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22Vós adorais o que não sabeis; nós adoramos o que sabemos porque a salvação vem dos judeus.

22Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23Mas a hora vem, e agora é, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade; porque o Pai procura a tais que assim o adorem.

23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24Deus é Espírito, e importa que os que o adoram o adorem em espírito e em verdade.

24God {is} a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship {him} in spirit and in truth.

25A mulher disse-lhe: Eu sei que o Messias (que se chama o Cristo) vem; quando ele vier, nos anunciará tudo.

25The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26Jesus disse-lhe: Eu o sou, eu que falo contigo.

26Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am {he}.

27E nisto vieram os seus discípulos, e maravilharam-se de que estivesse falando com uma mulher; todavia nenhum lhe disse: Que perguntas? ou: Por que falas com ela?

27And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28Deixou, pois, a mulher o seu cântaro, e foi à cidade, e disse àqueles homens:

28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29Vinde, vede um homem que me disse tudo quanto tenho feito. Porventura não é este o Cristo?

29Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30Saíram, pois, da cidade, e foram ter com ele.

30Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31E entretanto os seus discípulos lhe rogaram, dizendo: Rabi, come.

31In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32Ele, porém, lhes disse: Uma comida tenho para comer, que vós não conheceis.

32But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33Então os discípulos diziam uns aos outros: Trouxe-lhe, porventura, alguém algo de comer?

33Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him {ought} to eat?

34Jesus disse-lhes: A minha comida é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou, e realizar a sua obra.

34Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35Não dizeis vós que ainda há quatro meses até que venha a ceifa? Eis que eu vos digo: Levantai os vossos olhos, e vede as terras, que já estão brancas para a ceifa.

35Say not ye, There are yet four months, and {then} cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36E o que ceifa recebe galardão, e ajunta fruto para a vida eterna; para que, assim o que semeia como o que ceifa, ambos se regozijem.

36And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37Porque nisto é verdadeiro o ditado, que um é o que semeia, e outro o que ceifa.

37And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38Eu vos enviei a ceifar onde vós não trabalhastes; outros trabalharam, e vós entrastes no seu trabalho.

38I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39E muitos dos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele, pela palavra da mulher, que testificou: Disse-me tudo quanto tenho feito.

39And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40Indo, pois, ter com ele os samaritanos, rogaram-lhe que ficasse com eles; e ficou ali dois dias.

40So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41E muitos mais creram nele, por causa da sua palavra.

41And many more believed because of his own word;

42E diziam à mulher: Já não é pelo teu dito que nós cremos; porque nós mesmos o temos ouvido, e sabemos que este é verdadeiramente o Cristo, o Salvador do mundo.

42And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard {him} ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43E dois dias depois partiu dali, e foi para a Galiléia.

43Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

44Porque Jesus mesmo testificou que um profeta não tem honra na sua própria pátria.

44For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45Chegando, pois, à Galiléia, os galileus o receberam, vistas todas as coisas que fizera em Jerusalém, no dia da festa; porque também eles tinham ido à festa.

45Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46Segunda vez foi Jesus a Caná da Galiléia, onde da água fizera vinho. E havia ali um nobre, cujo filho estava enfermo em Cafarnaum.

46So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. {nobleman: or, courtier, or, ruler}

47Ouvindo este que Jesus vinha da Judéia para a Galiléia, foi ter com ele, e rogou-lhe que descesse, e curasse o seu filho, porque já estava à morte.

47When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48Então Jesus lhe disse: Se não virdes sinais e milagres, não crereis.

48Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49Disse-lhe o nobre: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.

49The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, o teu filho vive. E o homem creu na palavra que Jesus lhe disse, e partiu.

50Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

51E descendo ele logo, saíram-lhe ao encontro os seus servos, e lhe anunciaram, dizendo: O teu filho vive.

51And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told {him}, saying, Thy son liveth.

52Perguntou-lhes, pois, a que hora se achara melhor. E disseram-lhe: Ontem às sete horas a febre o deixou.

52Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53Entendeu, pois, o pai que era aquela hora a mesma em que Jesus lhe disse: O teu filho vive; e creu ele, e toda a sua casa.

53So the father knew that {it was} at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54Jesus fez este segundo milagre, quando ia da Judéia para a Galiléia.

54This {is} again the second miracle {that} Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
