Jó 9

1Então Jó respondeu, dizendo:

1Then Job answered and said,

2Na verdade sei que assim é; porque, como se justificaria o homem para com Deus?

2I know {it is} so of a truth: but how should man be just with God? {with God: or, before God?}

3Se quiser contender com ele, nem a uma de mil coisas lhe poderá responder.

3If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

4Ele é sábio de coração, e forte em poder; quem se endureceu contra ele, e teve paz?

4{He is} wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened {himself} against him, and hath prospered?

5Ele é o que remove os montes, sem que o saibam, e o que os transtorna no seu furor.

5Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

6O que sacode a terra do seu lugar, e as suas colunas estremecem.

6Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

7O que fala ao sol, e ele não nasce, e sela as estrelas.

7Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

8O que sozinho estende os céus, e anda sobre os altos do mar.

8Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. {waves: Heb. heights}

9O que fez a Ursa, o Órion, e o Sete-estrelo, e as recâmaras do sul.

9Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south. {Arcturus...: Heb. Ash, Cesil, and Cimah}

10O que faz coisas grandes e inescrutáveis; e maravilhas sem número.

10Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

11Eis que ele passa por diante de mim, e não o vejo; e torna a passar perante mim, e não o sinto.

11Lo, he goeth by me, and I see {him} not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

12Eis que arrebata a presa; quem lha fará restituir? Quem lhe dirá: Que é o que fazes?

12Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou? {hinder...: Heb. turn him away?}

13Deus não revogará a sua ira; debaixo dele se encurvam os auxiliadores soberbos.

13{If} God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him. {proud...: Heb. helpers of pride, or, strength}

14Quanto menos lhe responderia eu, ou escolheria diante dele as minhas palavras!

14How much less shall I answer him, {and} choose out my words {to reason} with him?

15Porque, ainda que eu fosse justo, não lhe responderia; antes ao meu Juiz pediria misericórdia.

15Whom, though I were righteous, {yet} would I not answer, {but} I would make supplication to my judge.

16Ainda que chamasse, e ele me respondesse, nem por isso creria que desse ouvidos à minha voz.

16If I had called, and he had answered me; {yet} would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

17Porque me quebranta com uma tempestade, e multiplica as minhas chagas sem causa.

17For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

18Não me permite respirar, antes me farta de amarguras.

18He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

19Quanto às forças, eis que ele é o forte; e, quanto ao juízo, quem me citará com ele?

19If {I speak} of strength, lo, {he is} strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time {to plead}?

20Se eu me justificar, a minha boca me condenará; se for perfeito, então ela me declarará perverso.

20If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: {if I say}, I {am} perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

21Se for perfeito, não estimo a minha alma; desprezo a minha vida.

21{Though} I {were} perfect, {yet} would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

22A coisa é esta; por isso eu digo que ele consome ao perfeito e ao ímpio.

22This {is} one {thing}, therefore I said {it}, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

23Quando o açoite mata de repente, então ele zomba da prova dos inocentes.

23If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24A terra é entregue nas mãos do ímpio; ele cobre o rosto dos juízes; se não é ele, quem é, logo?

24The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, {and} who {is} he?

25E os meus dias são mais velozes do que um correio; fugiram, e não viram o bem.

25Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

26Passam como navios veleiros; como águia que se lança à comida.

26They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle {that} hasteth to the prey. {swift...: or, ships of Ebeh: Heb. ships of desire}

27Se eu disser: Eu me esquecerei da minha queixa, e mudarei o meu aspecto e tomarei alento,

27If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort {myself}:

28Receio todas as minhas dores, porque bem sei que não me terás por inocente.

28I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

29E, sendo eu ímpio, por que trabalharei em vão?

29{If} I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

30Ainda que me lave com água de neve, e purifique as minhas mãos com sabão,

30If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

31Ainda me submergirás no fosso, e as minhas próprias vestes me abominarão.

31Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me. {abhor...: or, make me to be abhorred}

32Porque ele não é homem, como eu, a quem eu responda, vindo juntamente a juízo.

32For {he is} not a man, as I {am, that} I should answer him, {and} we should come together in judgment.

33Não há entre nós árbitro que ponha a mão sobre nós ambos.

33Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, {that} might lay his hand upon us both. {any...: Heb. one that should argue} {daysman: or, umpire}

34Tire ele a sua vara de cima de mim, e não me amedronte o seu terror.

34Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

35Então falarei, e não o temerei; porque não sou assim em mim mesmo.

35{Then} would I speak, and not fear him; but {it is} not so with me. {it is...: Heb. I am not so with myself}
