1Poderás tirar com anzol o leviatã, ou ligarás a sua língua com uma corda?

1Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord {which} thou lettest down? {leviathan: probably an extinct animal of some kind} {which...: Heb. which thou drownest?}

2Podes pôr um anzol no seu nariz, ou com um gancho furar a sua queixada?

2Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

3Porventura multiplicará as súplicas para contigo, ou brandamente falará?

3Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft {words} unto thee?

4Fará ele aliança contigo, ou o tomarás tu por servo para sempre?

4Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

5Brincarás com ele, como se fora um passarinho, ou o prenderás para tuas meninas?

5Wilt thou play with him as {with} a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6Os teus companheiros farão dele um banquete, ou o repartirão entre os negociantes?

6Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

7Encherás a sua pele de ganchos, ou a sua cabeça com arpões de pescadores?

7Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

8Põe a tua mão sobre ele, lembra-te da peleja, e nunca mais tal intentarás.

8Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

9Eis que é vã a esperança de apanhá-lo; pois não será o homem derrubado só ao vê-lo?

9Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not {one} be cast down even at the sight of him?

10Ninguém há tão atrevido, que a despertá-lo se atreva; quem, pois, é aquele que ousa erguer-se diante de mim?

10None {is so} fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

11Quem primeiro me deu, para que eu haja de retribuir-lhe? Pois o que está debaixo de todos os céus é meu.

11Who hath prevented me, that I should repay {him? whatsoever is} under the whole heaven is mine.

12Não me calarei a respeito dos seus membros, nem da sua grande força, nem a graça da sua compostura.

12I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

13Quem descobrirá a face da sua roupa? Quem entrará na sua couraça dobrada?

13Who can discover the face of his garment? {or} who can come {to him} with his double bridle? {with: or, within}

14Quem abrirá as portas do seu rosto? Pois ao redor dos seus dentes está o terror.

14Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth {are} terrible round about.

15As suas fortes escamas são o seu orgulho, cada uma fechada como com selo apertado.

15{His} scales {are his} pride, shut up together {as with} a close seal. {scales: Heb. strong pieces of shields}

16Uma à outra se chega tão perto, que nem o ar passa por entre elas.

16One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

17Umas às outras se ligam; tanto aderem entre si, que não se podem separar.

17They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

18Cada um dos seus espirros faz resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pálpebras da alva.

18By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes {are} like the eyelids of the morning.

19Da sua boca saem tochas; faíscas de fogo saltam dela.

19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, {and} sparks of fire leap out.

20Das suas narinas procede fumaça, como de uma panela fervente, ou de uma grande caldeira.

20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as {out} of a seething pot or caldron.

21O seu hálito faz incender os carvões; e da sua boca sai chama.

21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

22No seu pescoço reside a força; diante dele até a tristeza salta de prazer.

22In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. {is turned into joy: Heb. rejoiceth}

23Os músculos da sua carne estão pegados entre si; cada um está firme nele, e nenhum se move.

23The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. {flakes: Heb. fallings}

24O seu coração é firme como uma pedra e firme como a mó de baixo.

24His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether {millstone}.

25Levantando-se ele, tremem os valentes; em razão dos seus abalos se purificam.

25When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

26Se alguém lhe tocar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar, nem lança, dardo ou flecha.

26The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. {habergeon: or, breastplate}

27Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o cobre como pau podre.

27He esteemeth iron as straw, {and} brass as rotten wood.

28A seta o não fará fugir; as pedras das fundas se lhe tornam em restolho.

28The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

29As pedras atiradas são para ele como arestas, e ri-se do brandir da lança;

29Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

30Debaixo de si tem conchas pontiagudas; estende-se sobre coisas pontiagudas como na lama.

30Sharp stones {are} under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. {Sharp stones: Heb. Sharp pieces of potsherd}

31As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panela; torna o mar como uma vasilha de ungüento.

31He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32Após si deixa uma vereda luminosa; parece o abismo tornado em brancura de cãs.

32He maketh a path to shine after him; {one} would think the deep {to be} hoary.

33Na terra não há coisa que se lhe possa comparar, pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.

33Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. {is made without fear: or, behave themselves without fear}

34Ele vê tudo que é alto; é rei sobre todos os filhos da soberba.

34He beholdeth all high {things}: he {is} a king over all the children of pride.
