Jó 4

1Então respondeu Elifaz o temanita, e disse:

1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2Se intentarmos falar-te, enfadar-te-ás? Mas quem poderia conter as palavras?

2{If} we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking? {to...: Heb. a word} {withhold...: Heb. refrain from words?}

3Eis que ensinaste a muitos, e tens fortalecido as mãos fracas.

3Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

4As tuas palavras firmaram os que tropeçavam e os joelhos desfalecentes tens fortalecido.

4Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

5Mas agora, que se trata de ti, te enfadas; e tocando-te a ti, te perturbas.

5But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

6Porventura não é o teu temor de Deus a tua confiança, e a tua esperança a integridade dos teus caminhos?

6{Is} not {this} thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

7Lembra-te agora qual é o inocente que jamais pereceu? E onde foram os sinceros destruídos?

7Remember, I pray thee, who {ever} perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

8Segundo eu tenho visto, os que lavram iniqüidade, e semeiam mal, segam o mesmo.

8Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

9Com o hálito de Deus perecem; e com o sopro da sua ira se consomem.

9By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. {by the breath...: that is, by his anger}

10O rugido do leão, e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebram.

10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

11Perece o leão velho, porque não tem presa; e os filhos da leoa andam dispersos.

11The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

12Uma coisa me foi trazida em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro dela.

12Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. {secretly: Heb. by stealth}

13Entre pensamentos vindos de visões da noite, quando cai sobre os homens o sono profundo,

13In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

14Sobrevieram-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram.

14Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. {came...: Heb. met} {all: Heb. the multitude of}

15Então um espírito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabelos da minha carne.

15Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

16Parou ele, porém não conheci a sua feição; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos; houve silêncio, e ouvi uma voz que dizia:

16It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image {was} before mine eyes, {there was} silence, and I heard a voice, {saying}, {there...: or, I heard a still voice}

17Seria porventura o homem mais justo do que Deus? Seria porventura o homem mais puro do que o seu Criador?

17Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

18Eis que ele não confia nos seus servos e aos seus anjos atribui loucura;

18Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: {and his...: or, nor in his angels, in whom he put light}

19Quanto menos àqueles que habitam em casas de lodo, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são esmagados como a traça!

19How much less {in} them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation {is} in the dust, {which} are crushed before the moth?

20Desde a manhã até à tarde são despedaçados; e eternamente perecem sem que disso se faça caso.

20They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding {it}. {destroyed: Heb. beaten in pieces}

21Porventura não passa com eles a sua excelência? Morrem, mas sem sabedoria.

21Doth not their excellency {which is} in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
