1Fiz aliança com os meus olhos; como, pois, os fixaria numa virgem?

1I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2Que porção teria eu do Deus lá de cima, ou que herança do TodoPoderoso desde as alturas?

2For what portion of God {is there} from above? and {what} inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3Porventura não é a perdição para o perverso, o desastre para os que praticam iniqüidade?

3{Is} not destruction to the wicked? and a strange {punishment} to the workers of iniquity?

4Ou não vê ele os meus caminhos, e não conta todos os meus passos?

4Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5Se andei com falsidade, e se o meu pé se apressou para o engano

5If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6(Pese-me em balanças fiéis, e saberá Deus a minha sinceridade),

6Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity. {Let...: Heb. Let him weigh me in balances of justice}

7Se os meus passos se desviaram do caminho, e se o meu coração segue os meus olhos, e se às minhas mãos se apegou qualquer coisa,

7If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

8Então semeie eu e outro coma, e seja a minha descendência arrancada até à raiz.

8{Then} let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

9Se o meu coração se deixou seduzir por uma mulher, ou se eu armei traições à porta do meu próximo,

9If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or {if} I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

10Então moa minha mulher para outro, e outros se encurvem sobre ela,

10{Then} let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11Porque é uma infâmia, e é delito pertencente aos juízes.

11For this {is} an heinous crime; yea, it {is} an iniquity {to be punished by} the judges.

12Porque é fogo que consome até à perdição, e desarraigaria toda a minha renda.

12For it {is} a fire {that} consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13Se desprezei o direito do meu servo ou da minha serva, quando eles contendiam comigo;

13If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

14Então que faria eu quando Deus se levantasse? E, inquirindo a causa, que lhe responderia?

14What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15Aquele que me formou no ventre não o fez também a ele? Ou não nos formou do mesmo modo na madre?

15Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? {did not one...: or, did he not fashion us in one womb?}

16Se retive o que os pobres desejavam, ou fiz desfalecer os olhos da viúva,

16If I have withheld the poor from {their} desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17Ou se, sozinho comi o meu bocado, e o órfão não comeu dele

17Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

18(Porque desde a minha mocidade cresceu comigo como com seu pai, e fui o guia da viúva desde o ventre de minha mãe),

18(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as {with} a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) {her: that is, the widow}

19Se alguém vi perecer por falta de roupa, e ao necessitado por não ter coberta,

19If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20Se os seus lombos não me abençoaram, se ele não se aquentava com as peles dos meus cordeiros,

20If his loins have not blessed me, and {if} he were {not} warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21Se eu levantei a minha mão contra o órfão, porquanto na porta via a minha ajuda,

21If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22Então caia do ombro a minha espádua, e separe-se o meu braço do osso.

22{Then} let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone. {bone: or, chanelbone}

23Porque o castigo de Deus era para mim um assombro, e eu não podia suportar a sua grandeza.

23For destruction {from} God {was} a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24Se no ouro pus a minha esperança, ou disse ao ouro fino: Tu és a minha confiança;

24If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, {Thou art} my confidence;

25Se me alegrei de que era muita a minha riqueza, e de que a minha mão tinha alcançado muito;

25If I rejoiced because my wealth {was} great, and because mine hand had gotten much; {gotten...: Heb. found much}

26Se olhei para o sol, quando resplandecia, ou para a lua, caminhando gloriosa,

26If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking {in} brightness; {sun: Heb. light} {in...: Heb. bright}

27E o meu coração se deixou enganar em oculto, e a minha boca beijou a minha mão,

27And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: {my mouth...: Heb. my hand hath kissed my mouth}

28Também isto seria delito à punição de juízes; pois assim negaria a Deus que está lá em cima.

28This also {were} an iniquity {to be punished by} the judge: for I should have denied the God {that is} above.

29Se me alegrei da desgraça do que me tem ódio, e se exultei quando o mal o atingiu

29If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

30(Também não deixei pecar a minha boca, desejando a sua morte com maldição);

30Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. {mouth: Heb. palate}

31Se a gente da minha tenda não disse: Ah! quem nos dará da sua carne? Nunca nos fartaríamos dela.

31If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32O estrangeiro não passava a noite na rua; as minhas portas abria ao viandante.

32The stranger did not lodge in the street: {but} I opened my doors to the traveller. {traveller: or, way}

33Se, como Adão, encobri as minhas transgressões, ocultando o meu delito no meu seio;

33If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: {as Adam: or, after the manner of men}

34Porque eu temia a grande multidão, e o desprezo das famílias me apavorava, e eu me calei, e não saí da porta;

34Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, {and} went not out of the door?

35Ah! quem me dera um que me ouvisse! Eis que o meu desejo é que o Todo-Poderoso me responda, e que o meu adversário escreva um livro.

35Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire {is, that} the Almighty would answer me, and {that} mine adversary had written a book. {my...: or, my sign is that the Almighty will}

36Por certo que o levaria sobre o meu ombro, sobre mim o ataria por coroa.

36Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, {and} bind it {as} a crown to me.

37O número dos meus passos lhe mostraria; como príncipe me chegaria a ele.

37I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38Se a minha terra clamar contra mim, e se os seus sulcos juntamente chorarem,

38If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain; {complain: Heb. weep}

39Se comi os seus frutos sem dinheiro, e sufoquei a alma dos seus donos,

39If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life: {fruits: Heb. strength} {the owners...: Heb. the soul of the owners thereof to expire, or, breathe out}

40Por trigo me produza cardos, e por cevada joio. Acabaram-se as palavras de Jó.

40Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended. {cockle: or, noisome weeds}
