1Na verdade, há veios de onde se extrai a prata, e lugar onde se refina o ouro.

1Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold {where} they fine {it}. {vein: or, mine}

2O ferro tira-se da terra, e da pedra se funde o cobre.

2Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass {is} molten {out of} the stone. {earth: or, dust}

3Ele põe fim às trevas, e toda a extremidade ele esquadrinha, a pedra da escuridão e a da sombra da morte.

3He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

4Abre um poço de mina longe dos homens, em lugares esquecidos do pé; ficando pendentes longe dos homens, oscilam de um lado para outro.

4The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; {even the waters} forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

5Da terra procede o pão, mas por baixo é revolvida como por fogo.

5{As for} the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.

6As suas pedras são o lugar da safira, e tem pó de ouro.

6The stones of it {are} the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold. {dust...: or, gold ore}

7Essa vereda a ave de rapina a ignora, e não a viram os olhos da gralha.

7{There is} a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:

8Nunca a pisaram filhos de animais altivos, nem o feroz leão passou por ela.

8The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

9Ele estende a sua mão contra o rochedo, e revolve os montes desde as suas raízes.

9He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots. {rock: or, flint}

10Dos rochedos faz sair rios, e o seu olho vê tudo o que há de precioso.

10He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.

11Os rios tapa, e nem uma gota sai deles, e tira à luz o que estava escondido.

11He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and {the thing that is} hid bringeth he forth to light. {overflowing: Heb. weeping}

12Porém onde se achará a sabedoria, e onde está o lugar da inteligência?

12But where shall wisdom be found? and where {is} the place of understanding?

13O homem não conhece o seu valor, e nem ela se acha na terra dos viventes.

13Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

14O abismo diz: Não está em mim; e o mar diz: Ela não está comigo.

14The depth saith, It {is} not in me: and the sea saith, {It is} not with me.

15Não se dará por ela ouro fino, nem se pesará prata em troca dela.

15It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed {for} the price thereof. {It...: Heb. Fine gold shall not be given for it}

16Nem se pode comprar por ouro fino de Ofir, nem pelo precioso ônix, nem pela safira.

16It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

17Com ela não se pode comparar o ouro nem o cristal; nem se trocará por jóia de ouro fino.

17The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it {shall not be for} jewels of fine gold. {jewels...: or, vessels of}

18Não se fará menção de coral nem de pérolas; porque o valor da sabedoria é melhor que o dos rubis.

18No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom {is} above rubies. {coral: or, Ramoth}

19Não se lhe igualará o topázio da Etiópia, nem se pode avaliar por ouro puro.

19The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

20Donde, pois, vem a sabedoria, e onde está o lugar da inteligência?

20Whence then cometh wisdom? and where {is} the place of understanding?

21Pois está encoberta aos olhos de todo o vivente, e oculta às aves do céu.

21Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. {air: or, heaven}

22A perdição e a morte dizem: Ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos a sua fama.

22Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

23Deus entende o seu caminho, e ele sabe o seu lugar.

23God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

24Porque ele vê as extremidades da terra; e vê tudo o que há debaixo dos céus.

24For he looketh to the ends of the earth, {and} seeth under the whole heaven;

25Quando deu peso ao vento, e tomou a medida das águas;

25To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

26Quando prescreveu leis para a chuva e caminho para o relâmpago dos trovões;

26When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:

27Então a viu e relatou; estabeleceu-a, e também a esquadrinhou.

27Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. {declare...: or, number it}

28E disse ao homem: Eis que o temor do Senhor é a sabedoria, e apartar-se do mal é a inteligência.

28And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that {is} wisdom; and to depart from evil {is} understanding.
