Jó 17

1O meu espírito se vai consumindo, os meus dias se vão apagando, e só tenho perante mim a sepultura.

1My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves {are ready} for me. {breath...: or, spirit is spent}

2Deveras estou cercado de zombadores, e os meus olhos contemplam as suas provocações.

2{Are there} not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation? {continue: Heb. lodge}

3Promete agora, e dá-me um fiador para contigo; quem há que me dê a mão?

3Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who {is} he {that} will strike hands with me?

4Porque aos seus corações encobriste o entendimento, por isso não os exaltarás.

4For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt {them}.

5O que denuncia os seus amigos, a fim de serem despojados, também os olhos de seus filhos desfalecerão.

5He that speaketh flattery to {his} friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

6Porém a mim me pôs por um provérbio dos povos, de modo que me tornei uma abominação para eles.

6He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret. {aforetime: or, before them}

7Pelo que já se escureceram de mágoa os meus olhos, e já todos os meus membros são como a sombra.

7Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members {are} as a shadow. {my members: or, my thoughts}

8Os retos pasmarão disto, e o inocente se levantará contra o hipócrita.

8Upright {men} shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.

9E o justo seguirá o seu caminho firmemente, e o puro de mãos irá crescendo em força.

9The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. {be...: Heb. add strength}

10Mas, na verdade, tornai todos vós e vinde; porque sábio nenhum acharei entre vós.

10But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find {one} wise {man} among you.

11Os meus dias passaram, e malograram os meus propósitos, as aspirações do meu coração.

11My days are past, my purposes are broken off, {even} the thoughts of my heart. {the thoughts: Heb. the possessions}

12Trocaram a noite em dia; a luz está perto do fim, por causa das trevas.

12They change the night into day: the light {is} short because of darkness. {short: Heb. near}

13Se eu esperar, a sepultura será a minha casa; nas trevas estenderei a minha cama.

13If I wait, the grave {is} mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.

14À corrupção clamo: Tu és meu pai; e aos vermes: Vós sois minha mãe e minha irmã.

14I have said to corruption, Thou {art} my father: to the worm, {Thou art} my mother, and my sister. {said: Heb. cried, or, called}

15Onde, pois, estaria agora a minha esperança? Sim, a minha esperança, quem a poderá ver?

15And where {is} now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

16As barras da sepultura descerão quando juntamente no pó teremos descanso.

16They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when {our} rest together {is} in the dust.
