Jó 16

1Então respondeu Jó, dizendo:

1Then Job answered and said,

2Tenho ouvido muitas coisas como estas; todos vós sois consoladores molestos.

2I have heard many such things: miserable comforters {are} ye all. {miserable: or, troublesome}

3Porventura não terão fim essas palavras de vento? Ou o que te irrita, para assim responderes?

3Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest? {vain...: Heb. words of wind}

4Falaria eu também como vós falais, se a vossa alma estivesse em lugar da minha alma, ou amontoaria palavras contra vós, e menearia contra vós a minha cabeça?

4I also could speak as ye {do}: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

5Antes vos fortaleceria com a minha boca, e a consolação dos meus lábios abrandaria a vossa dor.

5{But} I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage {your grief}.

6Se eu falar, a minha dor não cessa, e, calando-me eu, qual é o meu alívio?

6Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and {though} I forbear, what am I eased? {what...: Heb. what goeth from me?}

7Na verdade, agora tu me tens fatigado; tu assolaste toda a minha companhia,

7But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

8Testemunha disto é que já me fizeste enrugado, e a minha magreza já se levanta contra mim, e no meu rosto testifica contra mim.

8And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, {which} is a witness {against me}: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

9Na sua ira me despedaçou, e ele me perseguiu; rangeu os seus dentes contra mim; aguça o meu adversário os seus olhos contra mim.

9He teareth {me} in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

10Abrem a sua boca contra mim; com desprezo me feriram nos queixos, e contra mim se ajuntam todos.

10They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

11Entrega-me Deus ao perverso, e nas mãos dos ímpios me faz cair.

11God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. {hath...: Heb. hath shut me up}

12Descansado estava eu, porém ele me quebrantou; e pegou-me pela cerviz, e me despedaçou; também me pôs por seu alvo.

12I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken {me} by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

13Cercam-me os seus flecheiros; atravessa-me os rins, e não me poupa, e o meu fel derrama sobre a terra,

13His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

14Fere-me com ferimento sobre ferimento; arremete contra mim como um valente.

14He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

15Cosi sobre a minha pele o cilício, e revolvi a minha cabeça no pó.

15I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.

16O meu rosto está todo avermelhado de chorar, e sobre as minhas pálpebras está a sombra da morte:

16My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids {is} the shadow of death;

17Apesar de não haver violência nas minhas mãos, e de ser pura a minha oração.

17Not for {any} injustice in mine hands: also my prayer {is} pure.

18Ah! terra, não cubras o meu sangue e não haja lugar para ocultar o meu clamor!

18O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

19Eis que também agora a minha testemunha está no céu, e nas alturas o meu testemunho está.

19Also now, behold, my witness {is} in heaven, and my record {is} on high. {on high: Heb. in the high places}

20Os meus amigos são os que zombam de mim; os meus olhos se desfazem em lágrimas diante de Deus.

20My friends scorn me: {but} mine eye poureth out {tears} unto God. {scorn me: Heb. are my scorners}

21Ah! se alguém pudesse contender com Deus pelo homem, como o homem pelo seu próximo!

21O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man {pleadeth} for his neighbour! {neighbour: or, friend}

22Porque decorridos poucos anos, eu seguirei o caminho por onde não tornarei.

22When a few years are come, then I shall go the way {whence} I shall not return. {a few...: Heb. years of number}
