Jó 15

1Então respondeu Elifaz o temanita, e disse:

1Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

2Porventura proferirá o sábio và sabedoria? E encherá do vento oriental o seu ventre,

2Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? {vain...: Heb. knowledge of wind}

3Argüindo com palavras que de nada servem, e com razões, de que nada aproveita?

3Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

4E tu tens feito vão o temor, e diminuis os rogos diante de Deus.

4Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God. {castest...: Heb. makest void} {prayer: or, speech}

5Porque a tua boca declara a tua iniqüidade; e tu escolhes a língua dos astutos.

5For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. {uttereth: Heb. teacheth}

6A tua boca te condena, e não eu, e os teus lábios testificam contra ti.

6Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

7És tu porventura o primeiro homem que nasceu? Ou foste formado antes dos outeiros?

7{Art} thou the first man {that} was born? or wast thou made before the hills?

8Ou ouviste o secreto conselho de Deus e a ti só limitaste a sabedoria?

8Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

9Que sabes tu, que nós não saibamos? Que entendes, que não haja em nós?

9What knowest thou, that we know not? {what} understandest thou, which {is} not in us?

10Também há entre nós encanecidos e idosos, muito mais idosos do que teu pai.

10With us {are} both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

11Porventura fazes pouco caso das consolações de Deus, e da suave palavra que te dirigimos?

11{Are} the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

12Por que te arrebata o teu coração, e por que piscam os teus olhos?

12Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

13Para virares contra Deus o teu espírito, e deixares sair tais palavras da tua boca?

13That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest {such} words go out of thy mouth?

14Que é o homem, para que seja puro? E o que nasce da mulher, para ser justo?

14What {is} man, that he should be clean? and {he which is} born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

15Eis que ele não confia nos seus santos, e nem os céus são puros aos seus olhos.

15Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

16Quanto mais abominável e corrupto é o homem que bebe a iniqüidade como a água?

16How much more abominable and filthy {is} man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

17Escuta-me, mostrar-te-ei; e o que tenho visto te contarei

17I will shew thee, hear me; and that {which} I have seen I will declare;

18(O que os sábios anunciaram, ouvindo-o de seus pais, e o não ocultaram;

18Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid {it}:

19Aos quais somente se dera a terra, e nenhum estranho passou por entre eles):

19Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

20Todos os dias o ímpio é atormentado, e se reserva, para o tirano, um certo número de anos.

20The wicked man travaileth with pain all {his} days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

21O sonido dos horrores está nos seus ouvidos; até na paz lhe sobrevém o assolador.

21A dreadful sound {is} in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him. {A dreadful...: Heb. A sound of fears}

22Não crê que tornará das trevas, mas que o espera a espada.

22He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

23Anda vagueando por pão, dizendo: Onde está? Bem sabe que já o dia das trevas lhe está preparado, à mão.

23He wandereth abroad for bread, {saying}, Where {is it}? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

24Assombram-no a angústia e a tribulação; prevalecem contra ele, como o rei preparado para a peleja;

24Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

25Porque estendeu a sua mão contra Deus, e contra o Todo-Poderoso se embraveceu.

25For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

26Arremete contra ele com a dura cerviz, e contra os pontos grossos dos seus escudos.

26He runneth upon him, {even} on {his} neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:

27Porquanto cobriu o seu rosto com a sua gordura, e criou gordura nas ilhargas.

27Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on {his} flanks.

28E habitou em cidades assoladas, em casas em que ninguém morava, que estavam a ponto de fazer-se montões de ruínas.

28And he dwelleth in desolate cities, {and} in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

29Não se enriquecerá, nem subsistirá a sua fazenda, nem se estenderão pela terra as suas possessões.

29He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

30Não escapará das trevas; a chama do fogo secará os seus renovos, e ao sopro da sua boca desaparecerá.

30He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

31Não confie, pois, na vaidade, enganando-se a si mesmo, porque a vaidade será a sua recompensa.

31Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

32Antes do seu dia ela se consumará; e o seu ramo não reverdecerá.

32It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. {accomplished: or, cut off}

33Sacudirá as suas uvas verdes, como as da vide, e deixará cair a sua flor como a oliveira,

33He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

34Porque a congregação dos hipócritas se fará estéril, e o fogo consumirá as tendas do suborno.

34For the congregation of hypocrites {shall be} desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

35Concebem a malícia, e dão à luz a iniqüidade, e o seu ventre prepara enganos.

35They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit. {vanity: or, iniquity}
