Jeremias 38

1Ouviram, pois, Sefatias, filho de Matã, e Gedalias, filho de Pasur, e Jucal, filho de Selemias, e Pasur, filho de Malquias, as palavras que anunciava Jeremias a todo o povo, dizendo:

1Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,

2Assim diz o Senhor: O que ficar nesta cidade morrerá à espada, de fome e de pestilência; mas o que sair aos caldeus viverá; porque a sua alma lhe será por despojo, e viverá.

2Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.

3Assim diz o SENHOR: Esta cidade infalivelmente será entregue na mão do exército do rei de babilônia, e ele a tomará.

3Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.

4E disseram os príncipes ao rei: Morra este homem, visto que ele assim enfraquece as mãos dos homens de guerra que restam nesta cidade, e as mãos de todo o povo, dizendo-lhes tais palavras; porque este homem não busca a paz para este povo, porém o mal.

4Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt. {welfare: Heb. peace}

5E disse o rei Zedequias: Eis que ele está na vossa mão; porque o rei nada pode fazer contra vós.

5Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he {is} in your hand: for the king {is} not {he that} can do {any} thing against you.

6Então tomaram a Jeremias, e o lançaram na cisterna de Malquias, filho do rei, que estava no átrio da guarda; e desceram a Jeremias com cordas; mas na cisterna não havia água, senão lama; e atolou-se Jeremias na lama.

6Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that {was} in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon {there was} no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire. {of Hammelech: or, of the king}

7E, ouvindo Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, um eunuco que então estava na casa do rei, que tinham posto a Jeremias na cisterna (estava, porém, o rei assentado à porta de Benjamim),

7Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;

8Logo Ebede-Meleque saiu da casa do rei, e falou ao rei, dizendo:

8Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king, saying,

9Ó rei, senhor meu, estes homens agiram mal em tudo quanto fizeram a Jeremias, o profeta, lançando-o na cisterna; de certo morrerá de fome no lugar onde se acha, pois não há mais pão na cidade.

9My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for {there is} no more bread in the city. {he is like...: Heb. he will die}

10Então deu ordem o rei a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, dizendo: Toma contigo daqui trinta homens, e tira a Jeremias, o profeta, da cisterna, antes que morra.

10Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die. {with thee: Heb. in thine hand}

11E tomou Ebede-Meleque os homens consigo, e foi à casa do rei, por debaixo da tesouraria, e tomou dali uns trapos velhos e rotos, e roupas velhas, e desceu-os a Jeremias na cisterna por meio de cordas.

11So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

12E disse Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, a Jeremias: Põe agora estes trapos velhos e rotos, já apodrecidos, nas axilas, calçando as cordas. E Jeremias assim o fez.

12And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now {these} old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.

13E puxaram a Jeremias com as cordas, e o alçaram da cisterna; e ficou Jeremias no átrio da guarda.

13So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

14Então o rei Zedequias mandou trazer à sua presença Jeremias, o profeta, à terceira entrada da casa do Senhor; e disse o rei a Jeremias: Pergunto-te uma coisa, não me encubras nada.

14Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that {is} in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me. {third: or, principal}

15E disse Jeremias a Zedequias: Se eu te declarar, porventura não me matarás? E se eu te aconselhar, não me ouvirás?

15Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare {it} unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?

16Então jurou o rei Zedequias a Jeremias, em segredo, dizendo: Vive o Senhor, que nos fez esta alma, que não te matarei nem te entregarei na mão destes homens que procuram a tua morte.

16So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, {As} the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.

17Então Jeremias disse a Zedequias: Assim diz o SENHOR, Deus dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Se voluntariamente saíres aos príncipes do rei de babilônia, então viverá a tua alma, e esta cidade não se queimará a fogo, e viverás tu e a tua casa.

17Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:

18Mas, se não saíres aos príncipes do rei de babilônia, então será entregue esta cidade na mão dos caldeus, e queimá-la-ão a fogo, e tu não escaparás da mão deles.

18But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.

19E disse o rei Zedequias a Jeremias: Receio-me dos judeus, que se passaram para os caldeus; que estes me entreguem na mão deles, e escarneçam de mim.

19And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.

20E disse Jeremias: Não te entregarão; ouve, peço-te, a voz do Senhor, conforme a qual eu te falo; e bem te irá, e viverá a tua alma.

20But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver {thee}. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.

21Mas, se tu não quiseres sair, esta é a palavra que me mostrou o Senhor:

21But if thou refuse to go forth, this {is} the word that the LORD hath shewed me:

22Eis que todas as mulheres que ficaram na casa do rei de Judá serão levadas aos príncipes do rei de babilônia, e elas mesmas dirão: Teus pacificadores te incitaram e prevaleceram contra ti, mas agora que se atolaram os teus pés na lama, voltaram atrás.

22And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house {shall be} brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those {women} shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, {and} they are turned away back. {Thy friends: Heb. Men of thy peace}

23Assim que a todas as tuas mulheres e a teus filhos levarão aos caldeus, e nem tu escaparás da sua mão, antes pela mão do rei de babilônia serás preso, e esta cidade será queimada a fogo.

23So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire. {thou shalt cause...: Heb. thou shalt burn, etc}

24Então disse Zedequias a Jeremias: Ninguém saiba estas palavras, e não morrerás.

24Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.

25E quando os príncipes, ouvindo que falei contigo, vierem a ti, e te disserem: Declara-nos agora o que disseste ao rei e o que ele te disse, não no-lo encubras, e não te mataremos;

25But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:

26Então lhes dirás: Eu lancei a minha súplica diante do rei, que não me fizesse tornar à casa de Jônatas, para morrer ali.

26Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.

27Vindo, pois, todos os príncipes a Jeremias, e interrogando-o, declarou-lhes todas as palavras que o rei lhe havia ordenado; e calados o deixaram, porque o assunto não foi revelado.

27Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived. {they...: Heb. they were silent from him}

28E ficou Jeremias no átrio da guarda, até o dia em que Jerusalém foi tomada, e ainda ali estava quando Jerusalém foi tomada.

28So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was {there} when Jerusalem was taken.
