Janes e Jambres 1

1O rei convocou todos os seus servos, tanto os sábios como os magos. Depois de sete dias, ele estava andando pela sua casa e viu que uma das macieiras havia florescido e os galhos já davam sombra.

1The king summoned all his servants, both the wise men and the magicians. After seven days, he was walking about his house and saw that one of the apple trees had flourished and the branches were already providing shade.

2Quando percebeu isso, ordenou que um de seus mágicos, Janes, se sentasse sob a macieira.

2When he had become aware of this, he ordered one of his magicians, Jannes, to sit under the apple tree.

3Enquanto Janes estava sentada debaixo da árvore, houve um grande terremoto e do céu veio o som de um trovão e um raio, fazendo com que alguns galhos da árvore se quebrassem.

3While Jannes was seated underneath the tree, there was a great earthquake and from heaven came the sound of thunder and a streak of lightning, causing some of the branches of the tree to break off.

4Quando Janes viu o que acabara de acontecer, correu até a biblioteca para pegar suas ferramentas mágicas. Quando ele voltou, duas pessoas apareceram perto da árvore.

4When Jannes saw what had just occurred, he ran into the library to get his magical tools. When he returned, two people appeared near the tree.

5Ambos estavam vestidos com túnicas brancas, e os dois tinham suas próprias ferramentas mágicas. Um dos homens voltou-se para Janes e afirmou que o Senhor da terra e o Superintendente do universo nos enviou para levá-lo para o Hades.

5Both were clothed in white robes, with the two having their own magical tools. One of the men turned to Jannes and stated that the Lord of the earth and the Overseer of the universe has sent us to lead you away to Hades.

6De agora em diante, Janes, você será um companheiro dos mortos. Você será para sempre digno de pena.

6From now on Jannes, you will be a companion of the dead. You shall forever be pitied.

7Então os dois homens de branco disseram: seja-te concedido catorze dias em tua casa e depois disso o anjo da morte virá buscar-te.

7Then the two men in white said, let there be granted to you, fourteen days in your house and after that the angel of death shall come for you.

8Quando o irmão de Janes, Jambres, soube o que havia acontecido, mandou chamar a mãe para se juntar a eles. Quando ela chegou ao local, Janes explicou o que acabara de acontecer.

8When Jannes’ brother, Jambres, knew what had transpired, he sent for their mother to join them. When she arrived on the scene, Jannes explained what had just occurred.

9Ele disse à mãe e ao irmão: “Mandarei chamar você, minha mãe, e você, meu irmão, quando chegar a hora”. Ele também disse a Jambres que Jambres deveria cuidar de sua mãe e atendê-la fielmente.

9He said to his mother and brother, “I shall send for you, my mother, and you, my brother, when it is time.” He also said to Jambres that Jambres should attend to their mother and to heed her faithfully.

10Então ele se aproximou dela e a beijou, lutando contra as lágrimas até que ela fosse embora. Ele então se despediu de seus amigos, pedindo a todos que cuidassem de sua mãe para ele. Então ele levou seu irmão com ele para Memphis.

10Then he approached her and kissed her, fighting back the tears until she had left. He then took leave of his friends, having urged them all to take care of his mother for him. Then he took his brother with him to Memphis.

11Durante a viagem para Memphis, Jannes entregou um livro a Jambres. Ele disse: “Irmão, estou passando este documento para você. Mantenha-o em segredo e tome cuidado para não sair no dia em que o rei marchar com os grandes do Egito contra o povo dos hebreus. E também certifique-se de não acompanhar o rei em seu cerco”.

11While on their journey to Memphis, Jannes handed Jambres a book. He said, “Brother, I am passing this document to you. Keep it secret, and take heed so as not to go forth on the day when the king marches out with the grandees of Egypt against the people of the Hebrews. And also make sure you do not accompany the king on his siege.”

12Então Janes afirmou que quando fico doente e minha alma é levada, o Deus do céu nos derrota. Certifique-se de convocar nossa mãe antes que eu morra.

12Then Jannes stated that when I become ill and my soul is being taken, the God from heaven has defeated us. Make sure you summon our mother to me before I perish.

13Sete dias depois, enquanto estavam em Memphis, os irmãos estavam se divertindo num casamento. Janes declarou durante este casamento: “Homens e irmãos, depois que assumi a posição contra um certo hebreu”.

13Seven days later, while in Memphis, the brothers were enjoying themselves at a wedding. Jannes stated during this wedding, “Men and brothers, after I took up the position against a certain Hebrew.”

14Mas antes que ele pudesse terminar de falar, emissários vieram do palácio do rei dizendo: “Venha rapidamente e oponha-se a Moisés, o hebreu, que está realizando maravilhas para o espanto de todos”.

14But before he could finish speaking, emissaries came from the king’s palace stating, “Come quickly and oppose Moses, the Hebrew, who is performing wonders to the amazement of all.”

15Quando Janes chegou ao palácio, ele se opôs a Moisés e a seu irmão, Aarão, fazendo tudo o que eles haviam feito.

15When Jannes arrived in the palace, he opposed Moses and his brother, Aaron, by doing everything they had done.

16Então, a doença fatal o atingiu na hora, e com uma úlcera dolorosa ele foi para a hedra.

16Then, the fatal disease struck him on the spot, and with a painful ulcer he went to the hedra.

17Depois de um tempo, Janes enviou uma mensagem ao rei, que este poder ativo é do Deus hebreu. Ele disse que não foi capaz de derrotar esse poder e que estava em seu leito de morte.

17After a while, Jannes sent word to the king, that this active power is of the Hebrew God. He said he was unable to defeat this power, and he was on his death bed.

18Jannes então ligou para seu irmão e pediu-lhe que não chorasse por ele, porque isso poderia ser perigoso para ele. Todas as nossas posses não podem nos proteger contra este poder.

18Jannes then called his brother and urged him not to grieve for him because it could be hazardous to him. All our possessions cannot protect us against this power.

19Prepare-se para que o espírito da morte venha até mim e, depois que ele chegar, tente me convocar através do meu espírito.

19Make ready for the spirit of death to come for me, and after it has come, try to summon me through my spirit.

20A manhã já se aproximava e todas as coisas observadas, Janes perguntou a que horas Jambres viu o pôr do sol.

20Morning was now approaching and all things being observed, Jannes made an inquiry at what hour did Jambres see the setting of the sun.

21Então ele disse: "Essa é uma geração de lábios mentirosos e corações enganosos da hora da minha morte. Venha e veja o que acontece", mas Jambres não disse nada e não se mexeu.

21Then he said, “Such is a generation of lying lips and deceitful hearts of the hour of my death. Come and see how it takes,” but Jambres said nothing and did not move.

22Depois que isso ocorreu, o rei do Egito planejou perseguir o povo hebreu, que agora estava deixando o Egito. O povo do Egito chorou neste momento de tristeza, mas Jambres não.

22After this occurred, the king of Egypt planned on pursuing the people of the Hebrews, who were now leaving Egypt. The people of Egypt were weeping in this time of sorrow, but Jambres did not.

23Ele se lembrou do juramento que fez ao irmão. Quando Jannes lhe disse, cem mil pessoas, cem potros, cem camelos, não poderiam impedir que estes acontecimentos acontecessem.

23He remembered the oath which he swore to his brother. When Jannes said to him, a hundred thousand people, hundred foals, hundred camels, could not keep these events from happening.

24Então Jambres ouviu um barulho e ouviu Janes falar de sua cama. Jannes disse a Jambres que ele não poderia evitar que Jannes morresse porque todo o corpo de Jannes estava agitado desde que ele se opôs a Moisés.

24Then Jambres heard a noise and heard Jannes speak from his bed. Jannes told Jambres that he could not keep Jannes from perishing because Jannes’ whole body had been agitated since he opposed Moses.

25Quando Janes ouviu falar dos planos do rei, ele encorajou todos os seus outros amigos, assim como fez com seu irmão.

25When Jannes heard of the king’s plans, he encouraged all his other friends, just like he did his brother.

26Então sua mãe chegou, gritando: “Meu pobre filho, Janes, como ele está?” Quando sua mãe viu o filho, ficou surpresa com a aparência de Janes.

26Then his mother arrived, crying out, “My poor son, Jannes, how is he.” When his mother viewed her son, she was amazed at how Jannes appeared.

27Janes preferia que sua mãe não o visse assim. Sua mãe se aproximou dele para poder beijá-lo, mas ele se afastou dela.

27Jannes preferred that his mother would have not seen him like this. His mother approached him so she could kiss him, but he turned away from her.

28Ele lhe disse: "Fique para trás, por causa da febre. Não consigo me mover e sinto muitas dores".

28He said to her, “Stay back, on account of the fever. I am unable to move and I am in much pain.”

29Então sua mãe lhe disse: “O que posso fazer por você, meu filho?” Ele respondeu: "Você se deu ao trabalho de vir me ver em minha terrível condição, e estou grato por isso. Irei para o túmulo feliz por ter podido vê-lo uma última vez antes de morrer."

29Then his mother uttered to him, “What can I do for you my son.” He replied, “You took the trouble to come and see me in my awful condition, and I am thankful for that. I will go to my grave happy that I was able to see you one last time before I perish.”

30Sua mãe então lhe disse: "Eu vi os mortos e ninguém se parecia com você, criança. Deite-se aqui e você será salvo."

30His mother then told him, “I saw the dead and no one resembled you, child. Lie here and you shall be saved.”

31Então sua mãe percebeu que a aparência de Janes havia mudado completamente, seu filho era um cadáver. Sua língua e lábios não se moviam, Janes, seu filho e o irmão de Jambres estavam mortos.

31Then his mother realized that Jannes’ appearance had been utterly changed, her son was a corpse. His tongue and lips were not moving, Jannes, her son, and Jambres’ brother was dead.

32Jambres e sua mãe ficaram sentados chorando pela morte do ente querido. Jambres afirmou que “fui privado da presença do meu irmão e todo o dinheiro ou bens não poderiam substituí-lo”.

32Jambres and his mother sat there weeping over their departed loved one. Jambres stated that, “I have been deprived my brother’s presence and all the money or possessions could not replace him.”

33Então Jambres percebeu que o espírito da morte não só havia levado seu irmão, mas também sua mãe deste mundo. Ele levou os dois ao túmulo de seu irmão.

33Then Jambres realized that the spirit of death had not only taken his brother, but also took his mother from this world. He took them both to the tomb of his brother.

34Depois de ter realizado os ritos fúnebres completos, abandonou para sempre a mãe e o irmão.

34After having performed the complete funeral rites, he abandoned his mother and brother forever.

35Jambres então voltou para a macieira com os livros e ferramentas mágicas de Janes. Ele realizou necromancia e trouxe do submundo a alma de seu irmão.

35Jambres then returned to the apple tree with Jannes’ magical books and tools. He performed necromancy and brought up from the netherworld his brother’s soul.

36A alma de Janes disse a seu irmão: "Eu, seu irmão, não morri injustamente, mas justamente, e o julgamento irá contra mim. Visto que eu era mais inteligente do que todos os mágicos inteligentes, e me opus aos dois irmãos, Moisés e Aarão, que realizaram grandes sinais e maravilhas.

36The soul of Jannes said to his brother, “I your brother did not die unjustly, but indeed justly, and the judgment will go against me. Since I was more clever than all the clever magicians, and opposed the two brothers, Moses and Aaron, who performed great signs and wonders.

37Como resultado, morri e fui trazido dentre os vivos para o submundo, onde há um grande incêndio e o abismo da perdição, de onde nenhuma ascensão é possível.

37As a result, I died and was brought from among the living to the netherworld, where there is great burning and the pit of perdition, whence no ascent is possible.

38Certifique-se de fazer o bem em sua vida para seus filhos e amigos; pois no submundo não existe bem, apenas escuridão e escuridão.

38Make sure you do good in your life to your children and friends; for in the netherworld, no good exists, only gloom and darkness.

39Depois que você morrer e entrar no submundo, sua morada terá dois côvados de largura e quatro côvados de comprimento.

39After you have died and entered the netherworld, your abode will be two cubits wide and four cubits long.

40Quem não pratica o mal não entra no submundo, é levado para um lugar mais agradável e bonito pelo Deus hebreu.

40Those who do not do evil do not enter the netherworld, they are taken to a more pleasant and beautiful place by the Hebrew God.

41Os filhos do Egito, devido às suas ações em vida, também descerão ao submundo. Não há perdão pelas ações que nosso povo cometeu contra os hebreus. Pois as portas do céu não são para os mudos e maus.

41The sons of Egypt, on account of their actions in life, will be descending to the netherworld also. There is no forgiveness for the actions our people have done to the Hebrews. For the gates of heaven are not for the dumb and evil.

42Não fomos capazes de evitar a corrupção em nossas vidas, pois Moisés sabia que desceríamos ao Hades quando perecessemos.

42We were unable to keep away from corruption in our lives, for Moses knew that we shall descend to Hades when we perish.

43Nossos membros estão cheios de escuridão e, portanto, estamos queimando no inferno e não há nada que alguém possa fazer.

43Our limbs are full of darkness, and hence we are burning in hell, and there is nothing anyone can do.

44Nós, que adorávamos ídolos e imagens esculpidas, fomos destruídos junto com os nossos ídolos, pois nem aos ídolos nem aos seus adoradores ama Deus, o rei da terra.

44We, who worshipped idols and carved images, came to destruction with our idols, for neither the idols nor their worshippers does God the king of the earth love.

45No Hades, ninguém, nem mesmo os reis do Egito, podem evitar o miserável.

45In Hades, no one, not even the kings of Egypt can avoid the wretched one.

46Pois aqueles que praticaram feitiçaria, cometeram perjúrio e outras ações pecaminosas semelhantes acabariam aqui.

46For those who practiced sorcery, committed perjury, and other sinful actions of the like, would end up here.

47Nem mesmo um rei se destaca, tem igualdade no Hades. Pois todos os que se opõem ao Deus da terra, o poderoso, não podem evitar a tortura do inferno.

47Not even a king excels, has equality in Hades. For everyone who opposes the God of the earth, the mighty one, cannot avoid the torture of hell.

48Nada do que fizermos pode nos proteger agora da ira do Deus hebreu, estamos todos condenados pela forma como vivemos as nossas vidas.

48Nothing we do can protect us now from the wrath of the Hebrew God, we are all doomed for the way we lived our lives.
