Isaías 64

1Oh! se fendesses os céus, e descesses, e os montes se escoassem de diante da tua face,

1Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,

2Como o fogo abrasador de fundição, fogo que faz ferver as águas, para fazeres notório o teu nome aos teus adversários, e assim as nações tremessem da tua presença!

2As {when} the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, {that} the nations may tremble at thy presence! {the melting...: Heb. the fire of meltings}

3Quando fazias coisas terríveis, que nunca esperávamos, descias, e os montes se escoavam diante da tua face.

3When thou didst terrible things {which} we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

4Porque desde a antiguidade não se ouviu, nem com ouvidos se percebeu, nem com os olhos se viu um Deus além de ti que trabalha para aquele que nele espera.

4For since the beginning of the world {men} have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, {what} he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. {seen...: or, seen a God beside thee, which doeth so for him, etc}

5Saíste ao encontro daquele que se alegrava e praticava justiça e dos que se lembram de ti nos teus caminhos; eis que te iraste, porque pecamos; neles há eternidade, para que sejamos salvos?

5Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, {those that} remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.

6Mas todos nós somos como o imundo, e todas as nossas justiças como trapo da imundícia; e todos nós murchamos como a folha, e as nossas iniqüidades como um vento nos arrebatam.

6But we are all as an unclean {thing}, and all our righteousnesses {are} as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

7E já ninguém há que invoque o teu nome, que se desperte, e te detenhas; porque escondes de nós o teu rosto, e nos fazes derreter, por causa das nossas iniqüidades.

7And {there is} none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities. {consumed: Heb. melted} {because: Heb. by the hand}

8Mas agora, ó Senhor, tu és nosso Pai; nós o barro e tu o nosso oleiro; e todos nós a obra das tuas mãos.

8But now, O LORD, thou {art} our father; we {are} the clay, and thou our potter; and we all {are} the work of thy hand.

9Não te enfureças tanto, ó Senhor, nem perpetuamente te lembres da iniqüidade; olha, pois, nós te pedimos, todos nós somos o teu povo.

9Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we {are} all thy people.

10As tuas santas cidades tornaram-se um deserto; Sião está feita um deserto, Jerusalém está assolada.

10Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

11A nossa santa e gloriosa casa, em que te louvavam nossos pais, foi queimada a fogo; e todas as nossas coisas preciosas se tornaram em assolação.

11Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.

12Conter-te-ias tu ainda sobre estas coisas, ó Senhor? Ficarias calado, e nos afligirias tanto?

12Wilt thou refrain thyself for these {things}, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
