Isaías 17

1Peso de Damasco. Eis que Damasco será tirada, e já não será cidade, antes será um montão de ruínas.

1The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from {being} a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

2As cidades de Aroer serão abandonadas; hão de ser para os rebanhos que se deitarão sem que alguém os espante.

2The cities of Aroer {are} forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make {them} afraid.

3E a fortaleza de Efraim cessará, como também o reino de Damasco e o restante da Síria; serão como a glória dos filhos de Israel, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.

3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

4E naquele dia será diminuída a glória de Jacó, e a gordura da sua carne ficará emagrecida.

4And in that day it shall come to pass, {that} the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

5Porque será como o segador que colhe a cana do trigo e com o seu braço sega as espigas; e será também como o que colhe espigas no vale de Refaim.

5And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

6Porém ainda ficarão nele alguns rabiscos, como no sacudir da oliveira: duas ou três azeitonas na mais alta ponta dos ramos, e quatro ou cinco nos seus ramos mais frutíferos, diz o Senhor Deus de Israel.

6Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two {or} three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four {or} five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

7Naquele dia atentará o homem para o seu Criador, e os seus olhos olharão para o Santo de Israel.

7At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

8E não atentará para os altares, obra das suas mãos, nem olhará para o que fizeram seus dedos, nem para os bosques, nem para as imagens.

8And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect {that} which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images. {images: or, sun images}

9Naquele dia as suas cidades fortificadas serão como lugares abandonados, no bosque ou sobre o cume das montanhas, os quais foram abandonados ante os filhos de Israel; e haverá assolação.

9In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

10Porque te esqueceste do Deus da tua salvação, e não te lembraste da rocha da tua fortaleza, portanto farás plantações formosas, e assentarás nelas sarmentos estranhos.

10Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

11E no dia em que as plantares as farás crescer, e pela manhã farás que a tua semente brote; mas a colheita voará no dia da angústia e das dores insofríveis.

11In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: {but} the harvest {shall be} a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. {a heap...: or, removed in the day of inheritance, and there shall be deadly sorrow}

12Ai do bramido dos grandes povos que bramam como bramam os mares, e do rugido das nações que rugem como rugem as impetuosas águas.

12Woe to the multitude of many people, {which} make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, {that} make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! {multitude: or, noise} {mighty: or, many}

13Rugirão as nações, como rugem as muitas águas, mas Deus as repreenderá e elas fugirão para longe; e serão afugentadas como a pragana dos montes diante do vento, e como o que rola levado pelo tufão.

13The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but {God} shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. {a rolling...: or, thistledown}

14Ao anoitecer eis que há pavor, mas antes que amanheça já não existe; esta é a parte daqueles que nos despojam, e a sorte daqueles que nos saqueiam.

14And behold at eveningtide trouble; {and} before the morning he {is} not. This {is} the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
