1Capítulo 8 - Esteja alerta contra as armadilhas do diabo.

1Chapter 8 — Be on your guard against the snares of the devil.

2Não que eu saiba que exista algo desse tipo entre vocês; mas eu te coloco em guarda, porque te amo muito e prevejo as armadilhas do diabo.

2Not that I know there is anything of this kind among you; but I put you on your guard, inasmuch as I love you greatly, and foresee the snares of the devil.

3Portanto, revesti-vos de mansidão, sede renovados na fé, que é a carne do Senhor, e no amor, que é o sangue de Jesus Cristo.

3Wherefore, clothing yourselves with meekness, be ye renewed in faith, that is the flesh of the Lord, and in love, that is the blood of Jesus Christ.

4Que nenhum de vocês guarde rancor do próximo.

4Let no one of you cherish any grudge against his neighbour.

5Não dêem ocasião aos gentios, para que, por meio de alguns homens tolos, toda a multidão daqueles que crêem em Deus seja maltratada.

5Give no occasion to the Gentiles, lest by means of a few foolish men the whole multitude of those that believe in God be evil spoken of.

6Pois, “Ai daquele por cuja vaidade meu nome é blasfemado entre todos”.

6For, "Woe to him by whose vanity my name is blasphemed among any".

7Agora vos escrevo estas coisas, não que eu saiba que existam tais pessoas entre vós; não, na verdade espero que Deus nunca permita que tal relato chegue aos meus ouvidos, Ele “que não poupou Seu Filho por causa de Sua santa Igreja”.

7Now I write these things unto you, not that I know there are any such persons among you; nay, indeed I hope that God will never permit any such report to reach my ears, He "who spared not His Son for the sake of His holy Church".

8Mas, prevendo as armadilhas do Maligno, armo-vos de antemão com as minhas admoestações, como meus amados e fiéis filhos em Cristo, fornecendo-vos os meios de proteção contra a doença mortal dos homens indisciplinados, pelos quais fugis da doença referida pela boa vontade de Cristo nosso Senhor.

8But foreseeing the snares of the wicked one, I arm you beforehand by my admonitions, as my beloved and faithful children in Christ, furnishing you with the means of protection against the deadly disease of unruly men, by which do ye flee from the disease referred to by the good-will of Christ our Lord.

9Portanto, revesti-vos de mansidão, tornem-se imitadores de Seus sofrimentos e de Seu amor, com o qual Ele nos amou quando se entregou como resgate por nós, para que pudesse nos purificar de nossa antiga impiedade com Seu sangue, e nos conceder vida quando estávamos quase a ponto de perecer pela depravação que havia em nós.

9Do ye therefore, clothing yourselves with meekness, become the imitators of His sufferings, and of His love, wherewith He loved us when He gave Himself a ransom for us, that He might cleanse us by His blood from our old ungodliness, and bestow life on us when we were almost on the point of perishing through the depravity that was in us.

10Que nenhum de vocês, portanto, guarde rancor contra o próximo.

10Let no one of you, therefore, cherish any grudge against his neighbour.

11Pois diz nosso Senhor: “Perdoai, e ser-vos-á perdoado”.

11For says our Lord, "Forgive, and it shall be forgiven unto you".

12Não dêem ocasião aos gentios, para que “por meio de alguns homens tolos a palavra e a doutrina de Cristo sejam blasfemadas”.

12Give no occasion to the Gentiles, lest "by means of a few foolish men the word and doctrine of Christ be blasphemed".

13Pois diz o profeta, como na pessoa de Deus: “Ai daquele por quem o meu nome é blasfemado entre os gentios”.

13For says the prophet, as in the person of God, "Woe to him by whom my name is blasphemed among the Gentiles".
