1Capítulo 5 - Desejo morrer.

1Chapter 5 — I desire to die.

2Da Síria até Roma luto com feras, tanto por terra como por mar, tanto de noite como de dia, estando preso a dez leopardos, quero dizer, um bando de soldados, que, mesmo quando recebem benefícios, mostram-se ainda piores.

2From Syria even unto Rome I fight with beasts, both by land and sea, both by night and day, being bound to ten leopards, I mean a band of soldiers, who, even when they receive benefits, show themselves all the worse.

3Mas sou ainda mais instruído por suas injúrias a agir como discípulo de Cristo; "ainda assim não estou justificado".

3But I am the more instructed by their injuries to act as a disciple of Christ; "yet am I not thereby justified".

4Que eu desfrute das feras que estão preparadas para mim; e rezo para que eles possam ser encontrados ansiosos para atacar-me, o que também farei com que me devorem rapidamente, e não tratem comigo como fizeram com alguns, a quem, por medo, eles não tocaram.

4May I enjoy the wild beasts that are prepared for me; and I pray they may be found eager to rush upon me, which also I will entice to devour me speedily, and not deal with me as with some, whom, out of fear, they have not touched.

5Mas se eles não estiverem dispostos a me atacar, eu os obrigarei a fazê-lo.

5But if they be unwilling to assail me, I will compel them to do so.

6Perdoe-me por isto: eu sei o que é para meu benefício.

6Pardon me in this: I know what is for my benefit.

7Agora começo a ser um discípulo.

7Now I begin to be a disciple.

8E que ninguém, das coisas visíveis ou invisíveis, me inveje por eu chegar a Jesus Cristo.

8And let no one, of things visible or invisible, envy me that I should attain to Jesus Christ.

9Deixe o fogo e a cruz; deixe as multidões de feras; deixe rasgos, quebras e deslocamentos de ossos; deixe o corte de membros; deixe destroços de todo o corpo; e que todos os terríveis tormentos do diabo venham sobre mim: apenas deixe-me chegar a Jesus Cristo.

9Let fire and the cross; let the crowds of wild beasts; let tearings, breakings, and dislocations of bones; let cutting off of members; let shatterings of the whole body; and let all the dreadful torments of the devil come upon me: only let me attain to Jesus Christ.

12Que eu desfrute das feras que estão preparadas para mim; e oro para que eles possam ser encontrados ansiosos para atacar-me, e também vou induzi-los a me devorar rapidamente, e não me tratarem como fizeram com alguns, a quem, por medo, eles não tocaram.

12May I enjoy the wild beasts that are prepared for me; and I pray that they may be found eager to rush upon me, which also I will entice to devour me speedily, and not deal with me as with some, whom, out of fear, they have not touched.

13Mas se eles não estiverem dispostos a me atacar, eu os obrigarei a fazê-lo.

13But if they be unwilling to assail me, I will compel them to do so.

14Perdoe-me por isso, eu sei o que é para meu benefício.

14Pardon me in this I know what is for my benefit.

15Agora começo a ser um discípulo e não desejo nada visível ou invisível para poder alcançar Jesus Cristo.

15Now I begin to be a disciple, and have no desire after anything visible or invisible, that I may attain to Jesus Christ.

16Deixe o fogo e a cruz; deixe as multidões de feras; deixe quebras, rasgos e separações de ossos; deixe o corte de membros; deixar hematomas em pedaços de todo o corpo; e deixe que o próprio tormento do diabo venha sobre mim: apenas deixe-me chegar a Jesus Cristo.

16Let fire and the cross; let the crowds of wild beasts; let breakings, tearings, and separations of bones; let cutting off of members; let bruising to pieces of the whole body; and let the very torment of the devil come upon me: only let me attain to Jesus Christ.
