1Capítulo 2 — Não me salve do martírio.

1Chapter 2 — Do not save me from martyrdom.

2Pois não é meu desejo agir em relação a vocês como para agradar aos homens, mas como para agradar a Deus, assim como vocês também O agradam.

2For it is not my desire to act towards you as a man-pleaser, but as pleasing God, even as also ye please Him.

3Pois nunca terei outra oportunidade de chegar a Deus; nem vós, se agora ficardes em silêncio, jamais tereis direito à honra de um trabalho melhor.

3For neither shall I ever have such another opportunity of attaining to God; nor will ye, if ye shall now be silent, ever be entitled to the honour of a better work.

4Pois se vocês se calarem a meu respeito, eu me tornarei de Deus; mas se você mostrar seu amor à minha carne, terei novamente que correr minha corrida.

4For if ye are silent concerning me, I shall become God's; but if you show your love to my flesh, I shall again have to run my race.

5Ore, então, não procure conferir-me nenhum favor maior do que ser sacrificado a Deus enquanto o altar ainda está preparado; para que, reunidos em amor, cantes louvores ao Pai, por meio de Cristo Jesus, por Deus me ter considerado, o bispo da Síria, digno de ser enviado do oriente ao ocidente.

5Pray, then, do not seek to confer any greater favour upon me than that I be sacrificed to God while the altar is still prepared; that, being gathered together in love, ye may sing praise to the Father, through Christ Jesus, that God has deemed me, the bishop of Syria, worthy to be sent for from the east unto the west.

6É bom passar do mundo para Deus, para que eu possa subir novamente para Ele.

6It is good to set from the world unto God, that I may rise again to Him.

7Pois não é meu desejo que agradeis aos homens, mas a Deus, assim como também vós agradais a Ele.

7For it is not my desire that ye should please men, but God, even as also ye do please Him.

8Pois nunca mais terei tal oportunidade de chegar a Deus; nem vós, se agora ficardes em silêncio, jamais tereis direito à honra de um trabalho melhor.

8For neither shall I ever hereafter have such an opportunity of attaining to God; nor will ye, if ye shall now be silent, ever be entitled to the honour of a better work.

9Pois se vocês se calarem a meu respeito, eu me tornarei de Deus; mas se você mostrar seu amor à minha carne, terei novamente que correr minha corrida.

9For if ye are silent concerning me, I shall become God's; but if ye show your love to my flesh, I shall again have to run my race.

10Ore, então, não procure conferir-me nenhum favor maior do que ser sacrificado a Deus, enquanto o altar ainda está preparado; para que, reunidos em amor, cantes louvores ao Pai, por meio de Cristo Jesus, que Deus me considerou, o bispo da Síria, digno de ser enviado do leste ao oeste, e de me tornar um mártir em favor de Seus próprios sofrimentos preciosos, para passar do mundo para Deus, para que eu possa ressuscitar para Ele.

10Pray, then, do not seek to confer any greater favour upon me than that I be sacrificed to God, while the altar is still prepared; that, being gathered together in love, ye may sing praise to the Father, through Christ Jesus, that God has deemed me, the bishop of Syria, worthy to be sent for from the east unto the west, and to become a martyr in behalf of His own precious sufferings, so as to pass from the world to God, that I may rise again unto Him.
