1Chapter 5 — The duties of husbands and wives.

2Fuja das artes malignas; mas ainda mais discurso em público sobre eles.

2Flee evil arts; but all the more discourse in public regarding them.

3Fale às minhas irmãs que elas amam o Senhor e estão satisfeitas com seus maridos, tanto na carne quanto no espírito.

3Speak to my sisters, that they love the Lord, and be satisfied with their husbands both in the flesh and spirit.

4Da mesma forma, exorte meus irmãos, em nome de Jesus Cristo, a que amem suas esposas, assim como o Senhor ama a Igreja.

4In like manner also, exhort my brethren, in the name of Jesus Christ, that they love their wives, even as the Lord the Church.

5Se alguém puder continuar num estado de pureza, para honra dAquele que é o Senhor da carne, que permaneça assim sem se vangloriar.

5If any one can continue in a state of purity, to the honour of Him who is Lord of the flesh, let him so remain without boasting.

6Se ele começar a se vangloriar, estará arruinado; e se ele se considera maior que o bispo, está arruinado.

6If he begins to boast, he is undone; and if he reckon himself greater than the bishop, he is ruined.

7Mas cabe tanto aos homens como às mulheres que se casam formar a sua união com a aprovação do bispo, para que o seu casamento seja de acordo com Deus, e não segundo a sua própria concupiscência.

7But it becomes both men and women who marry, to form their union with the approval of the bishop, that their marriage may be according to God, and not after their own lust.

8Que todas as coisas sejam feitas para honra de Deus.

8Let all things be done to the honour of God.

12Se alguém puder continuar num estado de pureza, para honra da carne do Senhor, que permaneça assim sem se vangloriar.

12If any one can continue in a state of purity, to the honour of the flesh of the Lord, let him so remain without boasting.

13Se ele se gloriar, estará arruinado; e se ele procura ser mais proeminente que o bispo, está arruinado.

13If he shall boast, he is undone; and if he seeks to be more prominent than the bishop, he is ruined.

14Mas cabe tanto aos homens como às mulheres que se casam formar a sua união com a aprovação do bispo, para que o seu casamento seja de acordo com o Senhor, e não segundo a sua própria concupiscência.

14But it becomes both men and women who marry, to form their union with the approval of the bishop, that their marriage may be according to the Lord, and not after their own lust.
