1Capítulo 3 — Honre seu jovem bispo.

1Chapter 3 — Honour your youthful bishop.

2Agora cabe a você também não tratar seu bispo com muita familiaridade por causa de sua juventude, mas prestar-lhe toda a reverência, tendo respeito pelo poder de Deus Pai, como sei que até mesmo os santos presbíteros fazem, não julgando precipitadamente, pela manifesta aparência jovem de seu bispo, mas como sendo eles próprios prudentes em Deus, submetendo-se a ele, ou melhor, não a ele, mas ao Pai de Jesus Cristo, o bispo de todos nós.

2Now it becomes you also not to treat your bishop too familiarly on account of his youth, but to yield him all reverence, having respect to the power of God the Father, as I have known even holy presbyters do, not judging rashly, from the manifest youthful appearance of their bishop, but as being themselves prudent in God, submitting to him, or rather not to him, but to the Father of Jesus Christ, the bishop of us all.

3É, portanto, apropriado que você deva, sem nenhuma hipócrita, obedecer ao seu bispo, em honra daquele que assim o quis, visto que aquele que não o faz, não engana com tal conduta o bispo que é visível, mas procura zombar daquele que é invisível.

3It is therefore fitting that you should, after no hypocritical fashion, obey your bishop, in honour of Him who has willed us so to do, since he that does not so deceives not by such conduct the bishop that is visible, but seeks to mock Him that is invisible.

4E toda essa conduta não se refere ao homem, mas a Deus, que conhece todos os segredos.

4And all such conduct has reference not to man, but to God, who knows all secrets.

5Agora cabe a você também não desprezar a idade de seu bispo, mas render-lhe toda reverência, de acordo com a vontade de Deus Pai, como sei que até mesmo presbíteros santos fazem, não tendo em conta a juventude manifesta de seu bispo, mas ao seu conhecimento em Deus; na medida em que “nem os antigos são necessariamente sábios, nem os idosos entendem a prudência; mas há um espírito nos homens”.

5Now it becomes you also not to despise the age of your bishop, but to yield him all reverence, according to the will of God the Father, as I have known even holy presbyters do, not having regard to the manifest youth of their bishop, but to his knowledge in God; inasmuch as "not the ancient are necessarily wise, nor do the aged understand prudence; but there is a spirit in men".

6Pois Daniel, o sábio, aos doze anos de idade, tornou-se possuído pelo Espírito divino e convenceu os anciãos, que em vão carregavam seus cabelos grisalhos, de serem falsos acusadores e de cobiçarem a beleza da esposa de outro homem.

6For Daniel the wise, at twelve years of age, became possessed of the divine Spirit, and convicted the elders, who in vain carried their grey hairs, of being false accusers, and of lusting after the beauty of another man's wife.

7Samuel também, quando era criança, repreendeu Eli, que tinha noventa anos, por dar honra a seus filhos e não a Deus.

7Samuel also, when he was but a little child, reproved Eli, who was ninety years old, for giving honour to his sons rather than to God.

8Da mesma forma, Jeremias também recebeu esta mensagem de Deus: “Não digas: sou uma criança”.

8In like manner, Jeremiah also received this message from God, "Say not, I am a child".

9Salomão também e Josias exemplificaram a mesma coisa.

9Solomon too, and Josiah, exemplified the same thing.

10O primeiro, tendo sido feito rei aos doze anos de idade, proferiu aquele terrível e difícil julgamento no caso das duas mulheres em relação aos seus filhos.

10The former, being made king at twelve years of age, gave that terrible and difficult judgment in the case of the two women concerning their children.

11Este último, subindo ao trono aos oito anos de idade, derrubou os altares e templos dos ídolos, e queimou os bosques, pois eram dedicados aos demônios, e não a Deus.

11The latter, coming to the throne when eight years old cast down the altars and temples of the idols, and burned down the groves, for they were dedicated to demons, and not to God.

12E ele matou os falsos sacerdotes, como os corruptores e enganadores dos homens, e não os adoradores da Deidade.

12And he slew the false priests, as the corrupters and deceivers of men, and not the worshippers of the Deity.

13Portanto, a juventude não deve ser desprezada quando é dedicada a Deus.

13Wherefore youth is not to be despised when it is devoted to God.

14Mas deve ser desprezado aquele que tem uma mente perversa, embora seja velho e cheio de dias iníquos.

14But he is to be despised who is of a wicked mind, although he be old, and full of wicked days.

15Timóteo, o portador de Cristo, era jovem, mas ouça o que lhe escreve o seu professor: “Ninguém despreze a tua juventude, mas sê o exemplo dos fiéis na palavra e na conduta”.

15Timothy the Christ-bearer was young, but hear what his teacher writes to him: "Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers in word and in conduct".

16É apropriado, portanto, que vocês também sejam obedientes ao seu bispo e não o contradigam em nada; pois é terrível contradizer tal pessoa.

16It is becoming, therefore, that ye also should be obedient to your bishop, and contradict him in nothing; for it is a fearful thing to contradict any such person.

17Pois ninguém engana com tal conduta aquele que é visível, mas na realidade procura zombar daquele que é invisível, mas de quem ninguém pode zombar.

17For no one does by such conduct deceive him that is visible, but does in reality seek to mock Him that is invisible, who, however, cannot be mocked by any one.

18E cada ato desse tipo respeita não o homem, mas a Deus.

18And every such act has respect not to man, but to God.

19Pois Deus diz a Samuel: “Não zombaram de ti, mas de mim”.

19For God says to Samuel, "They have not mocked thee, but Me".

20E Moisés declara: “Porque a sua murmuração não é contra nós, mas contra o Senhor Deus”.

20And Moses declares, "For their murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord God".

21De facto, nenhum daqueles que se levantaram contra os seus superiores ficou impune.

21No one of those has, in fact, remained unpunished, who rose up against their superiors.

22Pois Datã e Abirão não falaram contra a lei, mas contra Moisés, e foram lançados vivos no Hades.

22For Dathan and Abiram did not speak against the law, but against Moses, and were cast down alive into Hades.

23Também Corá e os duzentos e cinquenta que conspiraram com ele contra Arão foram destruídos pelo fogo.

23Korah also, and the two hundred and fifty who conspired with him against Aaron, were destroyed by fire.

24Absalão, novamente, que havia matado seu irmão, ficou suspenso em uma árvore e teve seu coração maligno atravessado por dardos.

24Absalom, again, who had slain his brother, became suspended on a tree, and had his evil-designing heart thrust through with darts.

25Da mesma maneira, Abeddadan foi decapitado pelo mesmo motivo.

25In like manner was Abeddadan beheaded for the same reason.

26Uzias, quando pretendeu se opor aos sacerdotes e ao sacerdócio, foi acometido de lepra.

26Uzziah, when he presumed to oppose the priests and the priesthood, was smitten with leprosy.

27Saul também foi desonrado, porque não esperou por Samuel, o sumo sacerdote.

27Saul also was dishonoured, because he did not wait for Samuel the high priest.

28Cabe a você, portanto, também reverenciar seus superiores.

28It behoves you, therefore, also to reverence your superiors.
