1Capítulo 8 — O mesmo continuou.

1Chapter 8 — The same continued.

2Fiz, portanto, o que me pertencia, como homem devotado à unidade.

2I therefore did what belonged to me, as a man devoted to unity.

3Pois onde há divisão e ira, Deus não habita.

3For where there is division and wrath, God doth not dwell.

4A todos os que se arrependem, o Senhor concede perdão, se se voltarem em penitência para a unidade de Deus e para a comunhão com o bispo.

4To all them that repent, the Lord grants forgiveness, if they turn in penitence to the unity of God, and to communion with the bishop.

5Confio em você na graça de Jesus Cristo, que o libertará de todo vínculo.

5I trust as to you in the grace of Jesus Christ, who shall free you from every bond.

6E exorto-vos a não fazer nada por conflito, mas de acordo com a doutrina de Cristo.

6And I exhort you to do nothing out of strife, but according to the doctrine of Christ.

7Quando ouvi alguns dizerem: Se não encontrar isso nas Escrituras antigas, não acreditarei no Evangelho; quando eu lhes disse: Está escrito, eles me responderam: Isso ainda precisa ser provado.

7When I heard some saying, If I do not find it in the ancient Scriptures, I will not believe the Gospel; on my saying to them, It is written, they answered me, That remains to be proved.

8Mas para mim Jesus Cristo está no lugar de tudo o que é antigo: Sua cruz, e morte, e ressurreição, e a fé que vem dele, são monumentos imaculados da antiguidade; pelo qual desejo, através de suas orações, ser justificado.

8But to me Jesus Christ is in the place of all that is ancient: His cross, and death, and resurrection, and the faith which is by Him, are undefiled monuments of antiquity; by which I desire, through your prayers, to be justified.

9Fiz, portanto, o que me pertencia, como homem devotado à unidade; acrescentando também que onde há diversidade de julgamento, ira e ódio, Deus não habita.

9I therefore did what belonged to me, as a man devoted to unity; adding this also, that where there is diversity of judgment, and wrath, and hatred, God does not dwell.

10A todos os que se arrependem, Deus concede perdão, se com um consentimento retornarem à unidade de Cristo e à comunhão com o bispo.

10To all them that repent, God grants forgiveness, if they with one consent return to the unity of Christ, and communion with the bishop.

11Confio na graça de Jesus Cristo, que Ele o libertará de todo laço de maldade.

11I trust to the grace of Jesus Christ, that He will free you from every bond of wickedness.

12Exorto-vos, portanto, a que nada façais por contenda, mas segundo a doutrina de Cristo.

12I therefore exhort you that ye do nothing out of strife, but according to the doctrine of Christ.

13Pois ouvi alguns dizerem: Se não encontrar o Evangelho nos arquivos, não acreditarei.

13For I have heard some saying, If I do not find the Gospel in the archives, I will not believe it.

14A tais pessoas digo que meus arquivos são Jesus Cristo, desobedecer a quem é manifesta destruição.

14To such persons I say that my archives are Jesus Christ, to disobey whom is manifest destruction.

15Meus arquivos autênticos são Sua cruz, e morte, e ressurreição, e a fé que se relaciona com essas coisas, pela qual desejo, através de suas orações, ser justificado.

15My authentic archives are His cross, and death, and resurrection, and the faith which bears on these things, by which I desire, through your prayers, to be justified.

16Aquele que descrê do Evangelho descrê de tudo que está nele.

16He who disbelieves the Gospel disbelieves everything along with it.

17Pois os arquivos não devem ser preferidos ao Espírito.

17For the archives ought not to be preferred to the Spirit.

18"É difícil chutar contra as picadas;" é difícil descrer de Cristo; é difícil rejeitar a pregação dos apóstolos.

18"It is hard to kick against the pricks;" it is hard to disbelieve Christ; it is hard to reject the preaching of the apostles.
