1Capítulo 4 — Cuidado com esses hereges.

1Chapter 4 — Beware of these heretics.

2Dou-lhes estas instruções, amados, com a certeza de que vocês também têm as mesmas opiniões que eu.

2I give you these instructions, beloved, assured that ye also hold the same opinions as I do.

3Mas eu te protejo de antemão daquelas feras em forma de homem, que você não apenas não deve receber, mas, se for possível, nem mesmo encontrar; somente você deve orar a Deus por eles, se de alguma forma eles puderem ser levados ao arrependimento, o que, no entanto, será muito difícil.

3But I guard you beforehand from those beasts in the shape of men, whom you must not only not receive, but, if it be possible, not even meet with; only you must pray to God for them, if by any means they may be brought to repentance, which, however, will be very difficult.

4No entanto, Jesus Cristo, que é a nossa verdadeira vida, tem o poder de efetuar isso.

4Yet Jesus Christ, who is our true life, has the power of effecting this.

5Mas se essas coisas foram feitas por nosso Senhor apenas na aparência, então eu também estou limitado apenas na aparência.

5But if these things were done by our Lord only in appearance, then am I also only in appearance bound.

6E por que também me entreguei à morte, ao fogo, à espada, às feras? Mas, na verdade, quem está perto da espada está perto de Deus; aquele que está entre os animais selvagens está em companhia de Deus; desde que apenas o seja em nome de Jesus Cristo.

6And why have I also surrendered myself to death, to fire, to the sword, to the wild beasts? But, in fact, he who is near to the sword is near to God; he that is among the wild beasts is in company with God; provided only he be so in the name of Jesus Christ.

7Sofro todas essas coisas para poder sofrer junto com Ele, que se tornou um homem perfeito, fortalecendo-me interiormente.

7I undergo all these things that I may suffer together with Him, He who became a perfect man inwardly strengthening me.

8I give you these instructions, beloved, assured that ye also hold the same opinions as I do.

9Mas eu te protejo de antemão dessas feras na forma de homens, das quais você não apenas deve se afastar, mas até mesmo fugir delas.

9But I guard you beforehand from these beasts in the shape of men, from whom you must not only turn away, but even flee from them.

10Somente você deve orar por eles, se de alguma forma eles puderem ser levados ao arrependimento.

10Only you must pray for them, if by any means they may be brought to repentance.

11Pois se o Senhor esteve no corpo apenas em aparência, e foi crucificado apenas em aparência, então eu também estou preso apenas em aparência.

11For if the Lord were in the body in appearance only, and were crucified in appearance only, then am I also bound in appearance only.

12E por que também me entreguei à morte, ao fogo, à espada, às feras? Mas, na verdade, suporto todas as coisas por Cristo, não só na aparência, mas na realidade, para que possa sofrer juntamente com Ele, enquanto Ele mesmo me fortalece interiormente; pois por mim mesmo não tenho essa habilidade.

12And why have I also surrendered myself to death, to fire, to the sword, to the wild beasts? But, in fact, I endure all things for Christ, not in appearance only, but in reality, that I may suffer together with Him, while He Himself inwardly strengthens me; for of myself I have no such ability.
