1Capítulo 3 — Cristo possuía um corpo após Sua ressurreição.

1Chapter 3 — Christ was possessed of a body after His resurrection.

2Pois eu sei que depois de Sua ressurreição também Ele ainda era possuído por carne, e creio que Ele o é agora.

2For I know that after His resurrection also He was still possessed of flesh, and I believe that He is so now.

3Quando, por exemplo, Ele veio até aqueles que estavam com Pedro, Ele lhes disse: “Agarrem-se, segurem-me e vejam que não sou um espírito incorpóreo”.

3When, for instance, He came to those who were with Peter, He said to them, "Lay hold, handle Me, and see that I am not an incorporeal spirit".

4E imediatamente eles o tocaram e creram, sendo convencidos tanto pela sua carne como pelo seu espírito.

4And immediately they touched Him, and believed, being convinced both by His flesh and spirit.

5Por esta causa também desprezaram a morte e foram considerados seus conquistadores.

5For this cause also they despised death, and were found its conquerors.

6E depois de sua ressurreição, Ele comeu e bebeu com eles, como sendo possuído por carne, embora espiritualmente estivesse unido ao Pai.

6And after his resurrection He did eat and drink with them, as being possessed of flesh, although spiritually He was united to the Father.

7E eu sei que Ele possuía um corpo não apenas quando nasceu e foi crucificado, mas também sei que Ele o foi depois de Sua ressurreição, e creio que Ele o é agora.

7And I know that He was possessed of a body not only in His being born and crucified, but I also know that He was so after His resurrection, and believe that He is so now.

8Quando, por exemplo, Ele veio até aqueles que estavam com Pedro, Ele lhes disse: “Agarrem-se, segurem-me e vejam que não sou um espírito incorpóreo”.

8When, for instance, He came to those who were with Peter, He said to them, "Lay hold, handle Me, and see that I am not an incorporeal spirit".

9“Porque um espírito não tem carne nem ossos, como vedes que eu tenho”.

9"For a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have".

10E Ele diz a Tomé: "Põe aqui o teu dedo na marca dos pregos, e chega aqui a tua mão, e enfia-a no Meu lado"; e imediatamente eles acreditaram que Ele era Cristo.

10And He says to Thomas, "Reach hither thy finger into the print of the nails, and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side;" and immediately they believed that He was Christ.

11Por isso Tomé também lhe diz: “Meu Senhor e meu Deus”.

11Wherefore Thomas also says to Him, "My Lord, and my God".

12E por isso também desprezavam a morte, pois era muito pouco para dizer, indignidades e açoites.

12And on this account also did they despise death, for it were too little to say, indignities and stripes.

13E isso não foi tudo; mas também depois de ter-lhes mostrado que havia ressuscitado de fato, e não apenas em aparência, Ele comeu e bebeu com eles durante quarenta dias inteiros.

13Nor was this all; but also after He had shown Himself to them, that He had risen indeed, and not in appearance only, He both ate and drank with them during forty entire days.

14E assim Ele foi, com a carne, recebido diante deles naquele que o enviou, estando com aquela mesma carne para voltar, acompanhado de glória e poder.

14And thus was He, with the flesh, received up in their sight unto Him that sent Him, being with that same flesh to come again, accompanied by glory and power.

15Pois, dizem os santos oráculos: “Este mesmo Jesus, que dentre vós foi elevado ao céu, virá da mesma maneira como vós o vistes ir para o céu”.

15For, say the holy oracles, "This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, in like manner as ye have seen Him go unto heaven".

16Mas se eles dizem que Ele virá no fim do mundo sem corpo, como aqueles “verão Aquele que O traspassou” e, quando O reconhecerem, “chorarão por si mesmos”? Pois os seres incorpóreos não têm forma nem figura, nem aspecto de animal possuidor de forma, porque sua natureza é em si simples.

16But if they say that He will come at the end of the world without a body, how shall those "see Him that pierced Him," and when they recognise Him, "mourn for themselves?" For incorporeal beings have neither form nor figure, nor the aspect of an animal possessed of shape, because their nature is in itself simple.
