1Capítulo 17 — Cuidado com as falsas doutrinas.

1Chapter 17 — Beware of false doctrines.

2Para esse fim o Senhor permitiu que o unguento fosse derramado sobre Sua cabeça, para que Ele pudesse soprar a imortalidade em Sua Igreja.

2For this end did the Lord suffer the ointment to be poured upon His head, that He might breathe immortality into His Church.

3Não sejais ungidos com o mau cheiro da doutrina do príncipe deste mundo; não deixe que ele o leve cativo da vida que está diante de você.

3Be not ye anointed with the bad odour of the doctrine of the prince of this world; let him not lead you away captive from the life which is set before you.

4E por que não somos todos prudentes, visto que recebemos o conhecimento de Deus, que é Jesus Cristo? Por que perecemos tolamente, não reconhecendo o dom que o Senhor tem de uma verdade que nos foi enviada? Para esse fim o Senhor permitiu que o unguento fosse derramado sobre Sua cabeça, para que Sua Igreja pudesse exalar imortalidade.

4And why are we not all prudent, since we have received the knowledge of God, which is Jesus Christ? Why do we foolishly perish, not recognising the gift which the Lord has of a truth sent to us? For this end did the Lord suffer the ointment to be poured upon His head, that His Church might breathe forth immortality.

5Pois diz a Escritura: “O Teu nome é como bálsamo derramado; por isso as virgens Te amaram; elas Te atraíram; ao cheiro dos Teus unguentos correremos atrás de Ti”.

5For saith the Scripture, "Thy name is as ointment poured forth; therefore have the virgins loved Thee; they have drawn Thee; at the odour of Thine ointments we will run after Thee".

6Que ninguém seja ungido com o mau cheiro da doutrina do príncipe deste mundo; não deixe a santa Igreja de Deus ser levada cativa por sua sutileza, como foi a primeira mulher.

6Let no one be anointed with the bad odour of the doctrine of the prince of this world; let not the holy Church of God be led captive by his subtlety, as was the first woman.

7Por que nós, dotados de razão, não agimos com sabedoria? Quando recebemos de Cristo e enxertamos em nós a faculdade de julgar a respeito de Deus, por que caímos de cabeça na ignorância? e por que, por negligência descuidada em reconhecer o dom que recebemos, perecemos tolamente?

7Why do we not, as gifted with reason, act wisely? When we had received from Christ, and had grafted in us the faculty of judging concerning God, why do we fall headlong into ignorance? and why, through a careless neglect of acknowledging the gift which we have received, do we foolishly perish?.
