Gênesis 20

1E partiu Abraão dali para a terra do sul, e habitou entre Cades e Sur; e peregrinou em Gerar.

1And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.

2E havendo Abraão dito de Sara, sua mulher: É minha irmã; enviou Abimeleque, rei de Gerar, e tomou a Sara.

2And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She {is} my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

3Deus, porém, veio a Abimeleque em sonhos de noite, e disse-lhe: Eis que morto serás por causa da mulher que tomaste; porque ela tem marido.

3But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou {art but} a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she {is} a man's wife. {a man's...: Heb. married to an husband}

4Mas Abimeleque ainda não se tinha chegado a ela; por isso disse: Senhor, matarás também uma nação justa?

4But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?

5Não me disse ele mesmo: É minha irmã? E ela também disse: É meu irmão. Em sinceridade do coração e em pureza das minhas mãos tenho feito isto.

5Said he not unto me, She {is} my sister? and she, even she herself said, He {is} my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this. {integrity: or, simplicity, or, sincerity}

6E disse-lhe Deus em sonhos: Bem sei eu que na sinceridade do teu coração fizeste isto; e também eu te tenho impedido de pecar contra mim; por isso não te permiti tocá-la.

6And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.

7Agora, pois, restitui a mulher ao seu marido, porque profeta é, e rogará por ti, para que vivas; porém se não lha restituíres, sabe que certamente morrerás, tu e tudo o que é teu.

7Now therefore restore the man {his} wife; for he {is} a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore {her} not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that {are} thine.

8E levantou-se Abimeleque pela manhã de madrugada, chamou a todos os seus servos, e falou todas estas palavras em seus ouvidos; e temeram muito aqueles homens.

8Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.

9Então chamou Abimeleque a Abraão e disse-lhe: Que nos fizeste? E em que pequei contra ti, para trazeres sobre o meu reino tamanho pecado? Tu me fizeste aquilo que não deverias ter feito.

9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

10Disse mais Abimeleque a Abraão: Que tens visto, para fazer tal coisa?

10And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?

11E disse Abraão: Porque eu dizia comigo: Certamente não há temor de Deus neste lugar, e eles me matarão por causa da minha mulher.

11And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God {is} not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.

12E, na verdade, é ela também minha irmã, filha de meu pai, mas não filha da minha mãe; e veio a ser minha mulher;

12And yet indeed {she is} my sister; she {is} the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

13E aconteceu que, fazendo-me Deus sair errante da casa de meu pai, eu lhe disse: Seja esta a graça que me farás em todo o lugar aonde chegarmos, dize de mim: É meu irmão.

13And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This {is} thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He {is} my brother.

14Então tomou Abimeleque ovelhas e vacas, e servos e servas, e os deu a Abraão; e restituiu-lhe Sara, sua mulher.

14And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave {them} unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.

15E disse Abimeleque: Eis que a minha terra está diante da tua face; habita onde for bom aos teus olhos.

15And Abimelech said, Behold, my land {is} before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee. {where...: Heb. as is good in thine eyes}

16E a Sara disse: Vês que tenho dado ao teu irmão mil moedas de prata; eis que ele te seja por véu dos olhos para com todos os que contigo estão, e até para com todos os outros; e estás advertida.

16And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand {pieces} of silver: behold, he {is} to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that {are} with thee, and with all {other}: thus she was reproved.

17E orou Abraão a Deus, e sarou Deus a Abimeleque, e à sua mulher, e às suas servas, de maneira que tiveram filhos;

17So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare {children}.

18Porque o Senhor havia fechado totalmente todas as madres da casa de Abimeleque, por causa de Sara, mulher de Abraão.

18For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
