Fragmentos Antigos 1

1Pois eu, Jacó, que vos falo, sou também Israel, um anjo de Deus e um espírito governante, e Abraão e Isaque foram criados previamente antes de qualquer obra.

1For I Jacob that speak unto you, I am also Israel, an angel of God and a ruling spirit, and Abraham and Isaac were pre-created before any work.

2E eu, Jacó, que sou chamado pelos homens Jacó, tenho por nome Israel, que sou chamado por Deus Israel, um homem que vê a Deus, porquanto sou o primogênito de todo ser vivente que é vivificado por Deus.

2And I Jacob, that am called by men Jacob, yet my name is Israel, that am called by God Israel, a man seeing God, for I am the first-begotten of every living thing that is quickened by God.

3E eu, quando vinha da Mesopotâmia da Síria, Uriel, o anjo de Deus, saiu ao meu encontro e disse que eu havia descido à terra e habitado entre os homens, e que era chamado pelo nome de Jacó.

3And I, when I was coming from Mesopotamia of Syria, Uriel the angel of God came forth and said that I had come down to earth and tabernacled among men, and that I was called by name Jacob.

4Ele teve inveja de mim, pelejou comigo e lutou contra mim, dizendo que o seu nome e o nome do anjo que está antes de todos deveriam ter precedência sobre o meu nome.

4He envied me and fought with me, and wrestled with me, saying that his name and the name of the angel that is before all should have precedence of my name.

5E declarei-lhe o seu nome e em que ordem ele está entre os filhos de Deus, dizendo: Não és tu Uriel, o oitavo depois de mim, enquanto eu sou Israel, um arcanjo do poder do Senhor e príncipe dos chefes de milhares entre os filhos de Deus? Não sou eu Israel, o primeiro ministro diante da face de Deus? E invoquei o meu Deus pelo nome inextinguível.

5And I told him his name, and in what order he is among the sons of God, saying: Art not thou Uriel, the eighth from me, and I am Israel, an archangel of the power of the Lord, and a captain of captains of thousands among the sons of God? Am I not Israel, the first minister before the face of God? And I called upon my God by the inextinguishable name.

6Pois li nas tábuas celestiais tudo quanto há de suceder a vós e a vossos filhos.

6For I have read in the tablets of heaven all that shall befall you and your sons.

7E Jacó era maior do que um homem mortal, aquele que suplantou a seu irmão e declarou: Li nas tábuas dos céus que era príncipe dos chefes de milhares do exército do Senhor, e tinha desde a antiguidade o nome de Israel, o que reconheço enquanto sirvo num corpo mortal, tendo sido lembrado disso pelo arcanjo Uriel.

7And Jacob was greater than man, he who supplanted his brother, and declared: I read in the tablets of heaven that I was a captain of captains of thousands of the host of the Lord, and had of old the name of Israel, which fact I recognize while doing service in a body, being reminded of it by the archangel Uriel.
