Êxodo 1

1Estes pois são os nomes dos filhos de Israel, que entraram no Egito com Jacó; cada um entrou com sua casa:

1Now these {are} the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

2Rúben, Simeão, Levi, e Judá;

2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

3Issacar, Zebulom, e Benjamim;

3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4Dã e Naftali, Gade e Aser.

4Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5Todas as almas, pois, que procederam dos lombos de Jacó, foram setenta almas; José, porém, estava no Egito.

5And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt {already}. {loins: Heb. thigh}

6Faleceu José, e todos os seus irmãos, e toda aquela geração.

6And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

7E os filhos de Israel frutificaram, aumentaram muito, e multiplicaram-se, e foram fortalecidos grandemente; de maneira que a terra se encheu deles.

7And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

8E levantou-se um novo rei sobre o Egito, que não conhecera a José;

8Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

9O qual disse ao seu povo: Eis que o povo dos filhos de Israel é muito, e mais poderoso do que nós.

9And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel {are} more and mightier than we:

10Eia, usemos de sabedoria para com eles, para que não se multipliquem, e aconteça que, vindo guerra, eles também se ajuntem com os nossos inimigos, e pelejem contra nós, e subam da terra.

10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and {so} get them up out of the land.

11E puseram sobre eles maiorais de tributos, para os afligirem com suas cargas. Porque edificaram a Faraó cidades-armazéns, Pitom e Ramessés.

11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

12Mas quanto mais os afligiam, tanto mais se multiplicavam, e tanto mais cresciam; de maneira que se enfadavam por causa dos filhos de Israel.

12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. {But...: Heb. And as they afflicted them, so they multiplied, etc}

13E os egípcios faziam servir os filhos de Israel com dureza;

13And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

14Assim que lhes fizeram amargar a vida com dura servidão, em barro e em tijolos, e com todo o trabalho no campo; com todo o seu serviço, em que os obrigavam com dureza.

14And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, {was} with rigour.

15E o rei do Egito falou às parteiras das hebréias (das quais o nome de uma era Sifrá, e o da outra Puá),

15And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one {was} Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

16E disse: Quando ajudardes a dar à luz às hebréias, e as virdes sobre os assentos, se for filho, matai-o; mas se for filha, então viva.

16And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see {them} upon the stools; if it {be} a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it {be} a daughter, then she shall live.

17As parteiras, porém, temeram a Deus e não fizeram como o rei do Egito lhes dissera, antes conservavam os meninos com vida.

17But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

18Então o rei do Egito chamou as parteiras e disse-lhes: Por que fizestes isto, deixando os meninos com vida?

18And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

19E as parteiras disseram a Faraó: É que as mulheres hebréias não são como as egípcias; porque são vivas, e já têm dado à luz antes que a parteira venha a elas.

19And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women {are} not as the Egyptian women; for they {are} lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

20Portanto Deus fez bem às parteiras. E o povo se aumentou, e se fortaleceu muito.

20Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

21E aconteceu que, como as parteiras temeram a Deus, ele estabeleceu-lhes casas.

21And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

22Então ordenou Faraó a todo o seu povo, dizendo: A todos os filhos que nascerem lançareis no rio, mas a todas as filhas guardareis com vida.

22And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
