1E no Evangelho dos Hebreus está escrito: Aquele que se maravilhar reinará, e aquele que reinar descansará; não cessará de buscar até que encontre, e tendo encontrado, ficará estupefato, e tendo ficado estupefato reinará, e tendo reinado descansará.

1And in the Hebrew Gospel it is written: He that wondereth shall reign, and he that reigneth shall rest; he shall not cease from seeking until he find, and having found, he will be amazed, and having been amazed will reign, and having reigned will rest.

2E o próprio Salvador declara: Ainda agora Minha mãe, o Espírito Santo, tomou-Me por um dos Meus cabelos e conduziu-Me ao grande monte Tabor.

2And the Savior himself saith: Even now did my mother, the Holy Spirit, take me by one of my hairs, and carried me away unto the great mountain Tabor.

3E relata-se outra passagem a respeito de uma mulher acusada de muitos pecados perante o Senhor, a qual o Salvador acolheu com misericórdia e perdoou.

3And there is set forth another history concerning a woman accused of many sins before the Lord, whom the Savior received with compassion and forgave.

4E no Evangelho hebraico a repreensão não recai contra o servo que enterrou o talento, mas contra aquele que viveu dissolutamente; pois fala-se de três servos: um que dissipou os bens do seu senhor com meretrizes e tocadoras de flauta, outro que os multiplicou negociando, e outro que escondeu o talento na terra.

4And in the Hebrew Gospel the threat is turned not against the servant who hid the talent, but against him who lived riotously; for it told of three servants: one who devoured his master's substance with harlots and flute-girls, another who multiplied it by trading, and another who hid the talent in the earth.

5E o Senhor disse: Nunca vos alegreis, a não ser quando contemplardes o vosso irmão com amor fraterno.

5And the Lord said: Never be ye joyful, save when ye look upon your brother in love.

6E tendo o Senhor entregue o lençol mortuário de linho ao servo do sumo sacerdote, foi ter com Tiago e apareceu-lhe; pois Tiago havia jurado que não comeria pão desde a hora em que bebera do cálice do Senhor até que O visse ressuscitado dentre os que dormem; e o Senhor disse: Trazei uma mesa e pão; e tomando o pão, abençoou-o, partiu-o e deu-o a Tiago, o Justo, dizendo: Meu irmão, come o teu pão, porque o Filho do Homem ressuscitou dentre os que dormem.

6And when the Lord had given the linen shroud unto the servant of the high priest, he went unto James and appeared unto him; for James had sworn that he would not eat bread from that hour wherein he had drunk the Lord's cup until he should see him risen again from among them that sleep; and the Lord said: Bring ye a table and bread; and he took bread and blessed and brake it, and gave it unto James the Just, saying: My brother, eat thy bread, for the Son of Man is risen from among them that sleep.

7E o homem que tinha a mão mirrada era um pedreiro, que suplicou socorro com estas palavras: Eu era um pedreiro que buscava o sustento com o trabalho das minhas mãos; rogo-Te, Jesus, que me devolvas a saúde, para que eu não tenha de mendigar ignominiosamente o meu sustento.

7And the man who had the withered hand was a mason, who prayed for help in such words as these: I was a mason seeking a livelihood with my hands; I pray thee, Jesus, to restore mine health, that I may not beg meanly for my food.

8E no lugar de filho de Baraquias, lê-se no Evangelho hebraico: filho de Joiada.

8And in the place of the son of Barachias, the Hebrew Gospel readeth: the son of Jehoiada.

9E na hora da paixão do Senhor, ao entregar Ele o espírito, a enorme verga do pórtico do Templo partiu-se e desabou derribada.

9And at the passion of the Lord, when he yielded up the ghost, the lintel of the temple of immense size was broken and fell divided.

10E aconteceu que, tendo o Senhor subido das águas do batismo, toda a fonte do Espírito Santo desceu e repousou sobre Ele, e disse-Lhe: Meu Filho, em todos os profetas Eu Te esperava para que viesses e Eu descansasse em Ti; pois Tu és o Meu repouso, e Tu és o Meu Filho primogênito, que reinas para sempre.

10And it came to pass, when the Lord was come up out of the water, the whole fount of the Holy Spirit descended and rested upon him, and said unto him: My Son, in all the prophets was I waiting for thee that thou shouldst come, and I might rest in thee; for thou art my rest, and thou art my firstborn Son, that reignest for ever.

11E conta-se entre os maiores pecados o fato de alguém contristar o espírito do seu irmão.

11And it is placed among the greatest of sins if a man have grieved the spirit of his brother.

12E eis que a mãe do Senhor e os Seus irmãos disseram-Lhe: João Batista batiza para remissão de pecados; vamos e sejamos batizados por ele; mas Ele lhes disse: Em que pequei Eu, para que vá e seja batizado por ele? A não ser que esta própria palavra que proferi seja um pecado de ignorância.

12And behold, the mother of the Lord and his brethren said unto him: John the Baptist baptizeth unto the remission of sins; let us go and be baptized of him; but he said unto them: Wherein have I sinned, that I should go and be baptized of him? Unless peradventure this very thing that I have said is a sin of ignorance.

13E disse o Senhor: Se o teu irmão pecar contra ti por palavras e se retratar, recebe-o sete vezes no mesmo dia; perguntou-Lhe Simão, Seu discípulo: Sete vezes ao dia? Respondeu-lhe o Senhor: Digo-te que até setenta vezes sete; pois até mesmo nos profetas, depois de ungidos pelo Espírito Santo, achou-se motivo de pecado.

13And the Lord said: If thy brother have sinned against thee by a word and made thee amends, seven times in a day receive thou him; Simon his disciple said unto him: Seven times in a day? The Lord answered and said unto him: Yea, I say unto thee, unto seventy times seven; for in the prophets also, after they were anointed by the Holy Spirit, the word of sin was found.

14E um certo homem rico perguntou-Lhe: Bom Mestre, que farei de bom para viver? Ele respondeu: Homem, cumpre a lei e os profetas; retrucou aquele: Já os cumpri; disse-lhe o Senhor: Vai, vende tudo o que possuis e reparte com os indigentes, e vem, segue-Me; o rico, porém, começou a coçar a cabeça, e a palavra não lhe agradou; então disse-lhe o Senhor: Como podes dizer: 'Cumpri a lei e os profetas'? Pois está escrito na lei: Amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo; e eis que muitos dos teus irmãos, filhos de Abraão, jazem cobertos de imundícia e morrem de fome, enquanto a tua casa transborda de fartura e nada sai dela para acudir-lhes; e voltando-Se para Simão, declarou: Mais fácil é entrar um camelo pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no Reino dos Céus.

14And a certain rich man said unto him: Master, what good thing shall I do and live? He said unto him: Man, keep the law and the prophets; he answered: I have kept them; the Lord said unto him: Go, sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and come, follow me; but the rich man began to scratch his head, and it pleased him not; and the Lord said unto him: How sayest thou, I have kept the law and the prophets? For it is written in the law: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; and lo, many of thy brethren, sons of Abraham, are clad in filth and dying for hunger, and thy house is full of many goods, and nought goeth out of it unto them; and turning to Simon he said: It is easier for a camel to enter by a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

15E na purificação do Templo registra-se que raios de luz celestial brilhavam dos Seus olhos, de sorte que os profanadores da casa de Deus ficaram aterrorizados e fugiram apressadamente.

15And at the cleansing of the temple, it is recorded that rays of starry light issued from his eyes, whereby those that profaned the holy house were terrified and put to flight.
