Evangelho de Pedro 1

1Dentre os judeus, porém, ninguém lavou as mãos; nem Herodes nem nenhum outro daqueles juízes. E, por não quererem lavar-se, Pilatos levantou-se.

1But of the Jews none washed their hands; neither Herod nor any one of those judges. And when they refused to wash, Pilate arose.

2O rei Herodes mandou que se encarregassem do Senhor, dizendo-lhes: 'Executai o que acabo de ordenar que façais com ele.'

2King Herod commanded that the Lord should be taken, saying to them: 'Do what I have commanded you to do to him.'

3José, o amigo de Pilatos e do Senhor, encontrava-se ali na ocasião. E sabendo que iam crucificá-lo, aproximou-se de Pilatos para pedir o corpo do Senhor para levá-lo à sepultura.

3Joseph, the friend of Pilate and of the Lord, stood there at that time. And knowing that they were about to crucify him, he came to Pilate to ask for the body of the Lord for burial.

4Pilatos, por sua vez, mandou um recado a Herodes e pediu-lhe o corpo de Jesus.

4Pilate, in turn, sent a message to Herod and asked him for his body.

5Herodes disse: 'Irmão Pilatos, mesmo que ninguém o houvesse reclamado, nós mesmos ter-lhe-íamos dado sepultura, pois já se aproxima o Sábado e está escrito na lei que o sol não deve pôr-se sobre um justiçado.'

5Herod said: 'Brother Pilate, even if no one had claimed him, we ourselves would have buried him, since the Sabbath is drawing near and it is written in the law that the sun should not set upon one that has been put to death.'

6E com isso, entregou-o ao povo no dia anterior ao dos Ázimos, sua festa.

6And with that, he delivered him to the people on the day before the unleavened bread, their feast.
