Evangelho de Nicodemos 24

1E o Senhor, estendendo a sua mão, disse: Vinde a mim, todos vós, meus santos, que trazeis a minha imagem e a minha semelhança. Vós que pela árvore e pelo diabo e pela morte fostes condenados, vede agora o diabo e a morte condenados pela árvore. E imediatamente todos os santos foram reunidos em um só, sob a mão do Senhor. E o Senhor, segurando a mão direita de Adão, disse-lhe: Paz seja contigo, com todos os teus filhos, que são os meus justos. Mas Adão, lançando-se aos joelhos do Senhor, suplicou-lhe com lágrimas e rogos, e disse em alta voz: Eu te exaltarei, ó Senhor, pois me elevaste e não fizeste triunfar sobre mim os meus inimigos: Ó Senhor meu Deus, clamei a ti e me curaste; Senhor, tiraste a minha alma do inferno, livraste-me dos que descem à cova. Cantai louvores ao Senhor, todos vós, seus santos, e dai-lhe graças pela memória da sua santidade. Pois na sua indignação há ira, e na sua benevolência há vida. Do mesmo modo todos os santos de Deus se ajoelharam e se lançaram aos pés do Senhor, dizendo a uma só voz: Vieste, ó redentor do mundo: o que predisseste pela lei e pelos teus profetas, isso cumpriste na prática. Redimiste os vivos pela tua cruz, e pela morte da cruz desceste a nós, para nos salvares do inferno e da morte pela tua majestade. Ó Senhor, assim como puseste o nome da tua glória nos céus e ergueste a tua cruz como sinal de redenção sobre a terra, assim, Senhor, ergue o sinal da vitória da tua cruz no inferno, para que a morte não tenha mais domínio.

1And the Lord stretching forth his hand, said: Come unto me, all ye my saints which bear mine image and my likeness. Ye that by the tree and the devil and death were condemned, behold now the devil and death condemned by the tree. And forthwith all the saints were gathered in one under the hand of the Lord. And the Lord holding the right hand of Adam, said unto him: Peace be unto thee with all thy children that are my righteous ones. But Adam, casting himself at the knees of the Lord entreated him with tears and beseechings, and said with a loud voice: I will magnify thee, O Lord, for thou hast set me up and not made my foes to triumph over me: O Lord my God I cried unto thee and thou hast healed me; Lord, thou hast brought my soul out of hell, thou hast delivered me from them that go down to the pit. Sing praises unto the Lord all ye saints of his, and give thanks unto him for the remembrance of his holiness. For there is wrath in his indignation and life is in his good pleasure. In like manner all the saints of God kneeled and cast themselves at the feet of the Lord, saying with one accord: Thou art come, O redeemer of the world: that which thou didst foretell by the law and by thy prophets, that hast thou accomplished in deed. Thou hast redeemed the living by thy cross, and by the death of the cross thou hast come down unto us, that thou mightest save us out of hell and death through thy majesty. O Lord, like as thou hast set the name of thy glory in the heavens and set up thy cross for a token of redemption upon the earth, so, Lord, set thou up the sign of the victory of thy cross in hell, that death may have no more dominion.

2E o Senhor estendeu a sua mão e fez o sinal da cruz sobre Adão e sobre todos os seus santos, e tomou a mão direita de Adão e subiu para fora do inferno, e todos os santos o seguiram. Então o santo Davi clamou em alta voz e disse: Cantai ao Senhor um cântico novo, pois fez maravilhas. A sua destra e o seu santo braço lhe alcançaram a salvação. O Senhor fez conhecer a sua salvação, diante da face de todas as nações revelou a sua justiça. E toda a multidão dos santos respondeu, dizendo: Esta honra têm todos os seus santos. Amém, Aleluia.

2And the Lord stretched forth his hand and made the sign of the cross over Adam and over all his saints, and he took the right hand of Adam and went up out of hell, and all the saints followed him. Then did holy David cry aloud and say: Sing unto the Lord a new song, for he hath done marvelous things. His right hand hath wrought salvation for him and his holy arm. The Lord hath made known his saving health, before the face of all nations hath he revealed his righteousness. And the whole multitude of the saints answered, saying: Such honour have all his saints. Amen, Alleluia.

3E depois Habacuque, o profeta, clamou e disse: Saíste para a salvação do teu povo, para libertar os teus escolhidos. E todos os santos responderam, dizendo: Bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor. Deus é o Senhor e nos mostrou a luz. Amém, Aleluia. Do mesmo modo depois disso o profeta Miqueias também clamou, dizendo: Que Deus há semelhante a ti, ó Senhor, que perdoas a iniquidade e removes os pecados? e agora reténs a tua ira como testemunho de que és misericordioso por livre vontade, e te voltas e tens compaixão de nós, perdoas todas as nossas iniquidades e afundaste todos os nossos pecados nas profundezas do mar, como juraste a nossos pais nos dias antigos. E todos os santos responderam, dizendo: Este é o nosso Deus para sempre e eternamente, ele será o nosso guia pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém, Aleluia. E assim falaram todos os profetas, mencionando santas palavras dos seus louvores, e todos os santos seguiram o Senhor, clamando: Amém, Aleluia.

3And thereafter Habacuc the prophet cried out and said: Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people to set free thy chosen. And all the saints answered, saying: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. God is the Lord and hath showed us light. Amen, Alleluia. Likewise after that the prophet Micheas also cried, saying: What God is like thee, O Lord, taking away iniquity and removing sins? and now thou withholdest thy wrath for a testimony that thou art merciful of free will, and thou dost turn away and have mercy on us, thou forgivest all our iniquities and hast sunk all our sins in the depths of the sea, as thou swarest unto our fathers in the days of old. And all the saints answered, saying: This is our God for ever and ever, he shall be our guide, world without end. Amen, Alleluia. And so spake all the prophets, making mention of holy words out of their praises, and all the saints followed the Lord, crying Amen, Alleluia.
