Evangelho de Bartolomeu 1

1Depois que Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo ressuscitou de entre os mortos, acercou-se dele Bartolomeu.

1After Our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead, Bartholomew approached him.

2Bartolomeu disse: 'Desvela-nos, Senhor, os mistérios dos céus.'

2Bartholomew said: 'Unveil to us, Lord, the mysteries of the heavens.'

3Jesus respondeu: 'Se não me despojar deste corpo carnal não os poderei revelar.'

3Jesus answered: 'If I do not divest myself of this carnal body I will not be able to reveal them.'

4Bartolomeu disse: 'Quando ias no caminho da cruz, eu te segui de longe. E te vi dependurado no lenho.'

4Bartholomew said: 'When you were going on the way to the cross, I followed you from afar. And I saw you hanging on the tree.'

5'Eu vi os anjos que, descendo dos céus, te adoravam. Ao sobrevirem as trevas, vi como desapareceste da cruz.'

5'I saw the angels who, descending from the heavens, worshiped you. When darkness came, I saw you disappear from the cross.'

6'Só pude ouvir os lamentos e o ranger de dentes que se produziram das entranhas da terra.'

6'I could only hear the laments and the gnashing of teeth that were produced from the bowels of the earth.'

7'Dize-me, Senhor, onde foste depois da cruz.'

7'Tell me, Lord, where did you go after the cross.'
