Ester (Grego) 14

1Por sua parte, a rainha Ester, tomada de uma angústia mortal, recorreu ao Senhor.

1Queen Esther also, being in fear of death, resorted unto the Lord:

2Depôs suas vestes suntuosas e vestiu-se com roupas de aflição e de luto. No lugar de essências preciosas, cobriu a cabeça com cinzas e poeira. Afligiu duramente seu corpo e por todos os lugares onde costumava alegrar-se espalhou os cabelos que se arrancava.

2And laid away her glorious apparel, and put on the garments of anguish and mourning: and instead of precious ointments, she covered her head with ashes and dung, and she humbled her body greatly, and all the places of her joy she filled with her torn hair.

3Dirigiu esta prece ao Senhor, Deus de Israel: “Meu Senhor, nosso Rei, assisti-me no meu desamparo, porque não tenho outro socorro senão vós

3And she prayed unto the Lord God of Israel, saying, O my Lord, thou only art our King: help me, desolate woman, which have no helper but thee:

4e o perigo que me ameaça eu o toco já com as mãos.

4For my danger is in mine hand.

5Aprendi desde a infância, no seio da minha família, que vós, Senhor, tendes escolhido Israel entre todas as nações e nossos pais entre todos os seus antepassados, para deles fazer vossa herança perpétua e que tendes executado todas as vossas promessas.

5From my youth up I have heard in the tribe of my family that thou, O Lord, tookest Israel from among all people, and our fathers from all their predecessors, for a perpetual inheritance, and thou hast performed whatsoever thou didst promise them.

6Agora pecamos na vossa presença e nos tendes entregado nas mãos de nossos inimigos,

6And now we have sinned before thee: therefore hast thou given us into the hands of our enemies,

7por termos adorado seus deuses. Vós sois justo, Senhor!

7Because we worshipped their gods: O Lord, thou art righteous.

8Ora, presentemente não lhes basta a amargura de nossa escravidão, mas colocaram suas mãos sobre as mãos dos ídolos,

8Nevertheless it satisfieth them not, that we are in bitter captivity: but they have stricken hands with their idols,

9em sinal de que querem abolir o que vossos lábios decretaram, aniquilar vossa herança, fechar a boca daqueles que vos louvam, extinguir a glória de vosso templo e de vosso altar,

9That they will abolish the thing that thou with thy mouth hast ordained, and destroy thine inheritance, and stop the mouth of them that praise thee, and quench the glory of thy house, and of thine altar,

10a fim de proclamar pela boca dos povos pagãos o poder de seus ídolos e de magnificar eternamente um rei de carne.

10And open the mouths of the heathen to set forth the praises of the idols, and to magnify a fleshly king for ever.

11Ó Senhor, não entregueis vosso cetro àqueles que não existem! Que eles não se riam de nossa ruína! Fazei cair sobre eles o seu projeto e tornai um exemplo para todo aquele que por primeiro nos atacou.

11O Lord, give not thy sceptre unto them that be nothing, and let them not laugh at our fall; but turn their device upon themselves, and make him an example, that hath begun this against us.

12Lembrai-vos de nós, Senhor! Mani­festai-vos no dia da tribulação! Dai-nos coragem, Senhor, Rei dos deuses e domi­nador de todo principado!

12Remember, O Lord, make thyself known in time of our affliction, and give me boldness, O King of the nations, and Lord of all power.

13Colocai em seus lábios palavras prudentes na presença do leão e fazei passar seu coração para o ódio daquele que nos é hostil, a fim de que ele pereça, ele e todos os seus parceiros.

13Give me eloquent speech in my mouth before the lion: turn his heart to hate him that fighteth against us, that there may be an end of him, and of all that are likeminded to him:

14E a nós, que a vossa mão nos livre! Assisti-me no meu abandono, a mim que não tenho senão a vós, Senhor. Conheceis tudo:

14But deliver us with thine hand, and help me that am desolate, and which have no other help but thee.

15sabeis que detesto a glória dos ímpios e que tenho horror ao leito dos incircuncisos e estrangeiros.

15Thou knowest all things, O Lord; thou knowest that I hate the glory of the unrighteous, and abhor the bed of the uncircumcised, and of all the heathen.

16Conhe­ceis a necessidade a que estou reduzida e como abomino a insígnia da dignidade que está sobre minha cabeça nos dias em que devo aparecer em público. Sim, eu a abomino como um pano manchado e não a levo nos dias de meu retiro.

16Thou knowest my necessity: for I abhor the sign of my high estate, which is upon mine head in the days wherein I shew myself, and that I abhor it as a menstruous rag, and that I wear it not when I am private by myself.

17Vossa serva não comeu à mesa de Amã, nem honrou com sua presença os banquetes do rei, nem bebeu o vinho das libações.

17And that thine handmaid hath not eaten at Aman’s table, and that I have not greatly esteemed the king’s feast, nor drunk the wine of the drink offerings.

18Jamais, desde o dia de sua elevação até hoje, vossa serva não experimentou alegria a não ser em vós, Senhor, Deus de Abraão.

18Neither had thine handmaid any joy since the day that I was brought hither to this present, but in thee, O Lord God of Abraham.

19Ó Deus, que sois poderoso sobre todas as coisas, ouvi a voz daqueles que não têm outra esperança; livrai-nos das mãos dos malvados e livrai-me de minha angústia”.

19O thou mighty God above all, hear the voice of the forlorn and deliver us out of the hands of the mischievous, and deliver me out of my fear.
