Esdras 9

1Acabadas, pois, estas coisas, chegaram-se a mim os príncipes, dizendo: O povo de Israel, os sacerdotes e os levitas, não se têm separado dos povos destas terras, seguindo as abominações dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos perizeus, dos jebuseus, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egípcios, e dos amorreus.

1Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, {doing} according to their abominations, {even} of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

2Porque tomaram das suas filhas para si e para seus filhos, e assim se misturou a linhagem santa com os povos dessas terras; e até os príncipes e magistrados foram os primeiros nesta transgressão.

2For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of {those} lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

3E, ouvindo eu tal coisa, rasguei as minhas vestes e o meu manto, e arranquei os cabelos da minha cabeça e da minha barba, e sentei-me atônito.

3And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.

4Então se ajuntaram a mim todos os que tremiam das palavras do Deus de Israel por causa da transgressão dos do cativeiro; porém eu permaneci sentado atônito até ao sacrifício da tarde.

4Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.

5E perto do sacrifício da tarde me levantei da minha aflição, havendo já rasgado as minhas vestes e o meu manto, e me pus de joelhos, e estendi as minhas mãos para o Senhor meu Deus;

5And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God, {heaviness: or, affliction}

6E disse: Meu Deus! Estou confuso e envergonhado, para levantar a ti a minha face, meu Deus; porque as nossas iniqüidades se multiplicaram sobre a nossa cabeça, e a nossa culpa tem crescido até aos céus.

6And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over {our} head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. {trespass: or, guiltiness}

7Desde os dias de nossos pais até ao dia de hoje estamos em grande culpa, e por causa das nossas iniqüidades somos entregues, nós e nossos reis e os nossos sacerdotes, na mão dos reis das terras, à espada, ao cativeiro, e ao roubo, e à confusão do rosto, como hoje se vê.

7Since the days of our fathers {have} we {been} in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, {and} our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as {it is} this day.

8E agora, por um pequeno momento, se manifestou a graça da parte do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos deixar alguns que escapem, e para dar-nos uma estaca no seu santo lugar; para nos iluminar os olhos, ó Deus nosso, e para nos dar um pouco de vida na nossa servidão.

8And now for a little space grace hath been {shewed} from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. {space: Heb. moment} {a nail: or, a pin: that is, a constant and sure abode}

9Porque somos servos; porém na nossa servidão não nos desamparou o nosso Deus; antes estendeu sobre nós a sua benignidade perante os reis da Pérsia, para que nos desse vida, para levantarmos a casa do nosso Deus, e para restaurarmos as suas assolações; e para que nos desse uma parede de proteção em Judá e em Jerusalém.

9For we {were} bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. {to repair: Heb. to set up}

10Agora, pois, ó nosso Deus, que diremos depois disto? Pois deixamos os teus mandamentos,

10And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

11Os quais mandaste pelo ministério de teus servos, os profetas, dizendo: A terra em que entrais para a possuir, terra imunda é pelas imundícias dos povos das terras, pelas suas abominações com que, na sua corrupção a encheram, de uma extremidade à outra.

11Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness. {by: Heb. by the hand of} {from...: Heb. from mouth to mouth}

12Agora, pois, vossas filhas não dareis a seus filhos, e suas filhas não tomareis para vossos filhos, e nunca procurareis a sua paz e o seu bem; para que sejais fortes, e comais o bem da terra, e a deixeis por herança a vossos filhos para sempre.

12Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave {it} for an inheritance to your children for ever.

13E depois de tudo o que nos tem sucedido por causa das nossas más obras, e da nossa grande culpa, porquanto tu, ó nosso Deus, impediste que fôssemos destruídos, por causa da nossa iniqüidade, e ainda nos deste um remanescente como este;

13And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities {deserve}, and hast given us {such} deliverance as this; {hast punished...: Heb. hast withheld beneath our iniquities}

14Tornaremos, pois, agora a violar os teus mandamentos e a aparentar-nos com os povos destas abominações? Não te indignarias tu assim contra nós até de todo nos consumir, até que não ficasse remanescente nem quem escapasse?

14Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed {us}, so that {there should be} no remnant nor escaping?

15Ah! Senhor Deus de Israel, justo és, pois ficamos qual um remanescente que escapou, como hoje se vê; eis que estamos diante de ti, na nossa culpa, porque ninguém há que possa estar na tua presença, por causa disto.

15O LORD God of Israel, thou {art} righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as {it is} this day: behold, we {are} before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
