Escada de Jacó 1

1Ora, Jacó foi até seu tio Labão, encontrou um lugar e adormeceu ali, deitando a cabeça sobre uma pedra, porque o sol havia se posto; e ali ele teve uma visão.

1Now Jacob went to his Uncle Laban, and he found a place and fell asleep there, laying his head on a stone, for the sun was set: and there he saw a vision.

2E eis! uma escada foi colocada na terra, cujo topo alcançava o céu. E no topo da escada havia um rosto como o de um homem, esculpido no fogo.

2And lo! a ladder was set up on the earth, whose top reached unto heaven. And the top of the ladder was a face as of a man, hewn out of fire.

3Agora tinha doze degraus até o topo da escada, e em cada degrau até o topo havia dois rostos humanos à direita e à esquerda - vinte e quatro rostos vistos de frente para o peito, na escada.

3Now it had twelve steps up to the top of the ladder, and upon each step up to the top were two human faces on the right and on the left—twenty-four faces seen to their breast, on the ladder.

4Mas a face do meio era mais alta que todas elas, que vi feita de fogo, até o ombro e o braço, muito terrivelmente, mais que as vinte e quatro faces.

4But the middle face was higher than them all, which I saw made of fire, to the shoulder and the arm, very terribly, more than the twenty-four faces.

5E enquanto eu olhava, eis que os anjos de Deus subiam e desciam sobre ele: mas o Senhor estava colocado acima dele, e ele me chamou, dizendo: Jacó, Jacó.

5And as I looked, behold, the Angels of God ascending and descending thereon: but the Lord was set above it, and he called me, saying: Jacob, Jacob.

6E eu disse: Aqui estou, Senhor; E ele me disse: A terra onde dormes darei a ti e à tua descendência depois de ti:

6And I said: Here am I, Lord; And he said to me: The land whereon thou sleepest I will give to thee and to thy seed after thee:

7e multiplicarei a tua descendência como as estrelas do céu e como a areia do mar; por meio de tua semente toda a terra será abençoada e aqueles que nela habitam, até os últimos tempos, os anos do fim.

7and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven and as the sand of the sea; through thy seed shall all the earth be blessed, and they that dwell thereon, unto the last times, the years of the end.

8Minha bênção com a qual te abençoei será derramada de ti até a última geração. Tudo no Oriente e no Ocidente estará cheio da tua semente.

8My blessing wherewith I have blessed thee shall pour out from thee unto the last generation. All in the east and the west shall be full of thy seed.
