Epístola de Barnabé 16

1Ademais, também vos falarei a respeito do templo, como aqueles miseráveis, errando, puseram sua esperança no edifício.

1Moreover, I will also speak to you concerning the temple, how those wretches, erring, put their hope on the building.

2E não em seu Deus que os fez, como se fosse a morada de Deus.

2And not on their God who made them, as if it were the dwelling of God.

3Porque eles quase como os pagãos o consagraram no templo.

3For almost like the pagans they consecrated him in the temple.

4Mas que diz o Senhor ao anulá-lo? Ouvi!

4But what does the Lord say in annulling it? Hear!

5Quem mediu o céu com o palmo, ou a terra com a mão? Não fui eu?, diz o Senhor.

5Who has measured the heaven with a span, or the earth with his hand? Was it not I?, says the Lord.

6O céu é meu trono e a terra é o escabelo de meus pés. Que casa me edificareis, ou qual é o lugar de meu descanso?

6The heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool. What house will you build for me, or what is the place of my rest?

7Sabeis que sua esperança era vã.

7You know that their hope was vain.

8Além disso, ele novamente diz: Eis que os que destruíram este templo o edificarão.

8Moreover, again he says: Behold, those who destroyed this temple shall build it.
