Epístola de Barnabé 13

1Vejamos se este povo ou o primeiro povo é o herdeiro, e se a aliança é para nós ou para eles.

1Let us see whether this people or the first people is the heir, and whether the covenant is for us or for them.

2Ouçam então o que a escritura diz a respeito do povo.

2Hear then what the scripture says concerning the people.

3E Isaque orou por sua mulher Rebeca porque era estéril, e ela concebeu.

3And Isaac prayed concerning Rebecca his wife because she was barren, and she conceived.

4E então Rebeca foi consultar o Senhor.

4And then Rebecca went to inquire of the Lord.

5E o Senhor lhe disse: Duas nações estão em teu ventre, e dois povos em tuas entranhas.

5And the Lord said to her: Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples in your bowels.

6E um povo superará o outro, e o maior servirá ao menor.

6And one people shall overcome the other, and the greater shall serve the lesser.

7Deveis entender quem é Isaque e quem é Rebeca.

7You must understand who Isaac is and who Rebecca is.

8E a respeito de quais ele mostrou que este povo é maior que aquele.

8And concerning which he has shown that this people is greater than that.
