Epístola de Barnabé 11

1Mas investiguemos se o Senhor teve o cuidado de manifestar de antemão a respeito da água e da cruz.

1But let us inquire whether the Lord took care to give a foreshadowing concerning the water and the cross.

2Agora, a respeito da água, está escrito para Israel como eles não receberiam o batismo que traz perdão de pecados.

2Now, concerning the water, it is written for Israel how they would not receive the baptism which brings remission of sins.

3Mas edificariam para si mesmos.

3But would build for themselves.

4Porque o profeta diz: Espante-se, ó céu, e estreme-se muito mais a terra por causa disto.

4For the prophet says: Be astonished, O heaven, and let the earth tremble very exceedingly at this.

5Porque este povo cometeu dois males: abandonaram a mim, a fonte de água viva.

5For this people has committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water.

6E cavaram para si cisternas quebradas.

6And have dug for themselves broken cisterns.

7Minha montanha santa, Sião, é uma rocha deserta? Porque sereis como filhotes de pássaro que voam quando o ninho é removido.

7Is my holy mountain, Zion, a desert rock? For you shall be like the young of birds that fly when the nest is removed.

8E novamente o profeta diz: Eu irei diante de ti e aplainarei montanhas.

8And again the prophet says: I will go before you and will level mountains.
