Epístola dos Apóstolos 34

1E dissemos-lhe novamente: Senhor, tantas e tão grandes coisas nos disseste e nos revelaste como jamais foram ditas, e em todas nos deste descanso e nos foste benigno. Depois da tua ressurreição revelaste-nos todas as coisas para que fôssemos verdadeiramente salvos; disseste-nos, porém, apenas: Haverá prodígios e estranhas visões no céu e na terra antes que venha o fim do mundo. Dize-nos agora: como o perceberemos? E ele nos respondeu: Ensinar-vos-ei isso; e não somente o que há de sobrevir a vós, mas também àqueles a quem ensizardes e que crerem, como também aos que ouvirem aquele homem e crerem em mim. Naqueles anos e dias há de suceder.

1And we said unto him again: Lord, so many great things hast thou told us and revealed unto us as never yet were spoken, and in all hast thou given us rest and been gracious unto us. After thy resurrection thou didst reveal unto us all things that we might be saved indeed; but thou saidst unto us only: There shall be wonders and strange appearances in heaven and on earth before the end of the world come. Tell us now, how shall we perceive it? And he answered us: I will teach it you; and not that which shall befall you only, but them also whom ye shall teach and who shall believe, as well as them who shall hear that man and believe on me. In those years and days shall it come to pass.

2E dissemos-lhe de novo: Senhor, o que há de suceder? E disse-nos: Então os que creem e os que não creem ouvirão uma trombeta no céu, uma visão de grandes estrelas que se verão de dia, visões admiráveis no céu descendo até a terra; estrelas que caem sobre a terra como fogo, e saraiva de fogo grande e terrível. O sol e a lua pelejando um contra o outro, um contínuo ribombar e estrondo de trovões e relâmpagos, trovão e terremoto; cidades caindo e homens perecendo na sua ruína, contínua penúria por falta de chuva, terrível peste e grande mortandade, violenta e fora de tempo, de sorte que aos mortos faltará sepultura; e o transporte de irmãos, irmãs e parentes far-se-á num só esquife. O parente não mostrará favor ao seu parente, nem homem algum ao seu próximo. E os que foram derrubados levantar-se-ão e contemplarão os que os derrubaram, desprovidos de sepultura, porque a peste será cheia de ódio, dor e inveja; e os homens tirarão de um e darão a outro. E depois disto as coisas piorarão ainda mais do que antes.

2And we said again unto him: Lord, what shall come to pass? And he said unto us: Then shall they that believe and they that believe not hear (see, Eth.) a trumpet in the heaven, a vision of great stars which shall be seen in the day, wonderful sights in heaven reaching down to the earth; stars which fall upon the earth like fire, and a great and mighty hail of fire (a star shining from the east unto this place, like unto fire, Eth. 2). The sun and the moon fighting one with the other, a continual rolling and noise of thunders and lightnings, thunder and earthquake; cities falling and men perishing in their overthrow, a continual dearth for lack of rain, a terrible pestilence and great mortality, mighty and untimely, so that they that die lack burial: and the bearing forth of brethren and sisters and kinsfolk shall be upon one bier. The kinsman shall show no favour to his kinsman, nor any man to his neighbour. And they that were overthrown shall rise up and behold them that overthrew them, that they lack burial, for the pestilence shall be full of hatred and pain and envy: and men shall take from one and give to another. And thereafter shall it wax yet worse than before. (Bewail ye them that have not hearkened unto my commandments, Eth. 2.)
