Entrega de Pôncio Pilatos 1

1A renúncia de Pôncio Pilatos: E tendo os escritos chegado à cidade dos romanos, e tendo sido lidos ao César, com não poucos presentes, todos ficaram surpresos, porque pela maldade de Pilatos as trevas e o terremoto haviam caído sobre o mundo inteiro.

1The Giving Up of Pontius Pilate: And the writings having come to the city of the Romans, and having been read to the Caesar, with not a few standing by, all were astounded, because through the wickedness of Pilate the darkness and the earthquake had come over the whole world.

2E o César, cheio de raiva, enviou soldados e ordenou-lhes que trouxessem um prisioneiro a Pilatos.

2And the Caesar, filled with rage, sent soldiers, and ordered them to bring Pilate a prisoner.

3E quando foi levado à cidade dos romanos, o César, ouvindo que Pilatos havia chegado, sentou-se no templo dos deuses, na presença de todo o senado, e com todo o exército, e toda a multidão do seu poder; e ele ordenou que Pilatos se adiantasse.

3And when he was brought to the city of the Romans, the Caesar, hearing that Pilate had arrived, sat in the temple of the gods, in the presence of all the senate, and with all the army, and all the multitude of his power; and he ordered Pilate to stand forward.

4E o César lhe disse: Por que tu, ó ímpio, ousaste fazer tais coisas, tendo visto tão grandes milagres naquele homem? Ao ousar cometer uma má ação, você destruiu o mundo inteiro.

4And the Caesar says to him: Why hast thou, O most impious, dared to do such things, having seen so great miracles in that man? By daring to do an evil deed, thou hast destroyed the whole world.

5E Pilatos disse: Ó rei todo-poderoso, sou inocente destas coisas; mas a multidão dos judeus é violenta e culpada.

5And Pilate said: O almighty king, I am innocent of these things; but the multitude of the Jews are violent and guilty.

6E o César disse: E quem são eles? Pilatos diz: Herodes, Arquelau, Filipe, Anás e Caifás, e toda a multidão dos judeus.

6And the Caesar said: And who are they? Pilate says: Herod, Archelaus, Philip, Annas and Caiaphas, and all the multitude of the Jews.

7O César diz: Por que razão seguiste o conselho deles? E Pilatos diz: A nação deles é rebelde e insubmissa, não se submetendo ao teu poder.

7The Caesar says: For what reason didst thou follow out their counsel? And Pilate says: Their nation is rebellious and insubmissive, not submitting themselves to thy power.

8E o César disse: Quando eles o entregaram a ti, tu devias tê-lo tornado seguro, e tê-lo enviado a mim, e não ter obedecido a eles na crucificação de tal homem, justo como ele era, e alguém que fez milagres tão bons, como você disse em seu relatório.

8And the Caesar said: When they delivered him to thee, thou oughtest to have made him secure, and to have sent him to me, and not to have obeyed them in crucifying such a man, righteous as he was, and one that did such good miracles, as thou hast said in thy report.

9Pois a partir de tais milagres Jesus era manifestamente o Cristo, o Rei dos Judeus.

9For from such miracles Jesus was manifestly the Christ, the King of the Jews.

10E enquanto o César falava assim, quando ele nomeou o nome de Cristo, toda a multidão dos deuses caiu em um corpo, e tornou-se como pó, onde o César estava sentado com o senado.

10And as the Caesar was thus speaking, when he named the name of Christ, all the multitude of the gods fell down in a body, and became as dust, where the Caesar was sitting with the senate.

11E todo o povo que estava ao lado de César começou a tremer, por causa do falar da palavra e da queda de seus deuses; e tomados de terror, todos foram embora, cada um para sua casa, imaginando o que havia acontecido.

11And the people standing beside the Caesar all began to tremble, on account of the speaking of the word, and the fall of their gods; and being seized with terror, they all went away, each to his own house, wondering at what had happened.

12E César ordenou que Pilatos fosse mantido em segurança, para que pudesse conhecer a verdade sobre Jesus.

12And the Caesar ordered Pilate to be kept in security, in order that he might know the truth about Jesus.

13E no dia seguinte, o César, sentado no Capitólio com todo o Senado, tentou novamente interrogar Pilatos.

13And on the following day, the Caesar, sitting in the Capitol with all the senate, tried again to question Pilate.

14E o César diz: Diga a verdade, ó ímpio, porque através da tua ação ímpia que perpetraste contra Jesus, mesmo aqui a prática dos teus atos perversos foi demonstrada pelos deuses tendo sido derrubados.

14And the Caesar says: Tell the truth, O most impious, because through thy impious action which thou hast perpetrated against Jesus, even here the doing of thy wicked deeds has been shown by the gods having been cast down.

15Diga, então, quem é aquele que foi crucificado; porque até o seu nome destruiu todos os deuses? Pilatos disse: E de fato os registros dele são verdadeiros; pois certamente eu mesmo fui persuadido por suas obras de que ele era maior do que todos os deuses que adoramos.

15Say, then, who is he that has been crucified; because even his name has destroyed all the gods? Pilate said: And indeed the records of him are true; for assuredly I myself was persuaded from his works that he was greater than all the gods whom we worship.

16E o César disse: Por que razão, então, você trouxe contra ele tal audácia e tais ações, se você não o ignorasse e planejasse totalmente o mal contra o meu reino? Pilatos disse: Por causa da maldade e da rebelião dos judeus iníquos e ímpios, eu fiz isso.

16And the Caesar said: For what reason, then, didst thou bring against him such audacity and such doings, if thou wert not ignorant of him, and altogether devising mischief against my kingdom? Pilate said: On account of the wickedness and rebellion of the lawless and ungodly Jews, I did this.

17E o César, cheio de raiva, convocou um conselho com todo o seu senado e seu poder, e ordenou que fosse escrito um decreto contra os judeus como segue: -A Liciano, governador dos principais lugares do Oriente, saudação.

17And the Caesar, being filled with rage, held a council with all his senate and his power, and ordered a decree to be written against the Jews as follows:—To Licianus, the governor of the chief places of the East, greeting.

18Chegou ao meu conhecimento o ato imprudente que tem sido cometido atualmente pelos habitantes de Jerusalém e pelas cidades dos judeus ao redor, e sua ação perversa, que eles forçaram Pilatos a crucificar um certo deus chamado Jesus, e por causa desta grande falha deles o mundo foi obscurecido e arrastado para a destruição.

18The reckless deed which has been done at the present time by the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the cities of the Jews round about, and their wicked action, has come to my knowledge, that they have forced Pilate to crucify a certain god named Jesus, and on account of this great fault of theirs the world has been darkened and dragged to destruction.

19Então, rapidamente, com uma multidão de soldados, vá até eles lá e faça-os prisioneiros, de acordo com este decreto.

19Do thou then speedily, with a multitude of soldiers, go to them there, and make them prisoners, in accordance with this decree.

20Seja obediente e aja contra eles, espalhe-os e faça-os escravos entre todas as nações; e tendo-os expulsado de toda a Judéia, faça deles a menor das nações, para que isso não seja mais visto, porque estão cheios de maldade.

20Be obedient, and take action against them, and scatter them, and make them slaves among all the nations; and having driven them out of the whole of Judaea, make them the smallest of nations, so that it may not any longer be seen at all, because they are full of wickedness.

21E tendo este decreto chegado à região do Oriente, Liciano, obedecendo por medo do decreto, apoderou-se de toda a nação dos judeus; e os que ficaram na Judéia ele os espalhou entre as nações, e os vendeu como escravos: para que o César soubesse que essas coisas haviam sido feitas por Liciano contra os judeus na região do Oriente; e isso o agradou.

21And this decree having come into the region of the East, Licianus, obeying from fear of the decree, seized all the nation of the Jews; and those that were left in Judaea he scattered among the nations, and sold for slaves: so that it was known to the Caesar that these things had been done by Licianus against the Jews in the region of the East; and it pleased him.

22E novamente o César pôs-se a interrogar Pilatos; e ele ordena que um capitão chamado Albius corte a cabeça de Pilatos, dizendo: Assim como ele impôs as mãos sobre o justo chamado Cristo, da mesma maneira ele também cairá e não encontrará segurança.

22And again the Caesar set himself to question Pilate; and he orders a captain named Albius to cut off Pilate's head, saying: Just as he laid hands upon the just man named Christ, in like manner also shall he fall, and not find safety.

23E Pilatos, afastando-se para o local, orou em silêncio, dizendo: Senhor, não me destrua junto com os ímpios hebreus, porque eu não teria imposto as mãos sobre Ti, exceto a nação dos judeus iníquos, porque eles estavam provocando rebelião contra mim.

23And Pilate, going away to the place, prayed in silence, saying: Lord, do not destroy me along with the wicked Hebrews, because I would not have laid hands upon Thee, except for the nation of the lawless Jews, because they were exciting rebellion against me.

24Mas Tu sabes que fiz isso por ignorância.

24But Thou knowest that I did it in ignorance.

25Não me destrua então por este meu pecado; mas não te lembres do mal contra mim, ó Senhor, e contra Teu servo Procla, que está comigo nesta hora de minha morte, a quem designaste para profetizar que serias pregado na cruz.

25Do not then destroy me for this my sin; but remember not evil against me, O Lord, and against Thy servant Procla, who is standing with me in this the hour of my death, whom Thou didst appoint to prophesy that Thou shouldest be nailed to the cross.

26Não a condene também em meu pecado; mas perdoa-nos e faz com que sejamos contados na porção dos Teus justos.

26Do not condemn her also in my sin; but pardon us, and make us to be numbered in the portion of Thy righteous.

27E eis que, quando Pilatos terminou a sua oração, veio uma voz do céu, dizendo: Todas as gerações e famílias das nações te considerarão bem-aventurado, porque sob ti se cumpriram todas aquelas coisas ditas sobre mim pelos profetas; e tu mesmo serás visto como minha testemunha na minha segunda aparição, quando julgarei as doze tribos de Israel e aqueles que não possuem meu nome.

27And, behold, when Pilate had finished his prayer, there came a voice out of the heaven, saying: All the generations and families of the nations shall count thee blessed, because under thee have been fulfilled all those things said about me by the prophets; and thou thyself shall be seen as my witness at my second appearing, when I shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel, and those that have not owned my name.

28E o prefeito decepou a cabeça de Pilatos; e eis que um anjo do Senhor o recebeu.

28And the prefect struck off the head of Pilate; and, behold, an angel of the Lord received it.

29E sua esposa Procla, vendo o anjo vindo e recebendo sua cabeça, enchendo-se de alegria também, imediatamente entregou o fantasma e foi enterrada junto com seu marido.

29And his wife Procla, seeing the angel coming and receiving his head, being filled with joy herself also, immediately gave up the ghost, and was buried along with her husband.
