Eclesiastes 11

1Lança o teu pão sobre as águas, porque depois de muitos dias o acharás.

1Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. {upon...: Heb. upon the face of the waters}

2Reparte com sete, e ainda até com oito, porque não sabes que mal haverá sobre a terra.

2Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

3Estando as nuvens cheias, derramam a chuva sobre a terra, e caindo a árvore para o sul, ou para o norte, no lugar em que a árvore cair ali ficará.

3If the clouds be full of rain, they empty {themselves} upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

4Quem observa o vento, nunca semeará, e o que olha para as nuvens nunca segará.

4He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

5Assim como tu não sabes qual o caminho do vento, nem como se formam os ossos no ventre da mulher grávida, assim também não sabes as obras de Deus, que faz todas as coisas.

5As thou knowest not what {is} the way of the spirit, {nor} how the bones {do grow} in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

6Pela manhã semeia a tua semente, e à tarde não retires a tua mão, porque tu não sabes qual prosperará, se esta, se aquela, ou se ambas serão igualmente boas.

6In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both {shall be} alike good. {shall prosper: Heb. shall be right}

7Certamente suave é a luz, e agradável é aos olhos ver o sol.

7Truly the light {is} sweet, and a pleasant {thing it is} for the eyes to behold the sun:

8Porém, se o homem viver muitos anos, e em todos eles se alegrar, também se deve lembrar dos dias das trevas, porque hão de ser muitos. Tudo quanto sucede é vaidade.

8But if a man live many years, {and} rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh {is} vanity.

9Alegra-te, jovem, na tua mocidade, e recreie-se o teu coração nos dias da tua mocidade, e anda pelos caminhos do teu coração, e pela vista dos teus olhos; sabe, porém, que por todas estas coisas te trará Deus a juízo.

9Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these {things} God will bring thee into judgment.

10Afasta, pois, a ira do teu coração, e remove da tua carne o mal, porque a adolescência e a juventude são vaidade.

10Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth {are} vanity. {sorrow: or, anger}
