2John the Theologian of the Falling Asleep of the Holy Mother of God.

3Como a santíssima e gloriosa mãe de Deus e sempre virgem Maria, como era seu costume, estava indo ao santo túmulo de nosso Senhor para queimar incenso e dobrando seus santos joelhos, ela importunou que Cristo nosso Deus, que havia nascido dela, retornasse para ela.

3As the all-holy glorious mother of God and ever-virgin Mary, as was her wont, was going to the holy tomb of our Lord to burn incense, and bending her holy knees, she was importunate that Christ our God who had been born of her should return to her.

4E os judeus, vendo-a demorar-se junto ao sepulcro divino, aproximaram-se dos principais sacerdotes, dizendo: Maria vai todos os dias ao sepulcro.

4And the Jews, seeing her lingering by the divine sepulchre, came to the chief priests, saying: Mary goes every day to the tomb.

5E os principais sacerdotes, tendo convocado os guardas por eles designados para não permitirem que ninguém rezasse no santo sepulcro, perguntaram por ela se era verdade.

5And the chief priests, having summoned the guards set by them not to allow any one to pray at the holy sepulchre, inquired about her, whether in truth it were so.

6E os guardas responderam e disseram que não tinham visto tal coisa, pois Deus não lhes permitiu vê-la quando estava lá.

6And the guards answered and said that they had seen no such thing, God having not allowed them to see her when there.

7E num dos dias, sendo de preparação, a Santa Maria, como era seu costume, veio ao sepulcro; e enquanto ela orava, aconteceu que os céus se abriram e o arcanjo Gabriel desceu até ela e disse: Salve, tu que deste à luz Cristo nosso Deus! Tua oração, tendo subido aos céus até Aquele que nasceu de ti, foi aceita; e a partir deste momento, de acordo com o teu pedido, tendo deixado o mundo, irás aos lugares celestiais para o teu Filho, para a vida verdadeira e eterna.

7And on one of the days, it being the preparation, the holy Mary, as was her wont, came to the sepulchre; and while she was praying, it came to pass that the heavens were opened, and the archangel Gabriel came down to her and said: Hail, thou that didst bring forth Christ our God! Thy prayer having come through to the heavens to Him who was born of thee, has been accepted; and from this time, according to thy request, thou having left the world, shall go to the heavenly places to thy Son, into the true and everlasting life.

8E tendo ouvido isso do santo arcanjo, ela voltou para a santa Belém, levando junto com ela três virgens que a serviam.

8And having heard this from the holy archangel, she returned to holy Bethlehem, having along with her three virgins who ministered unto her.

9E depois de ter descansado um pouco, sentou-se e disse às virgens: Trazei-me um incensário, para que eu reze.

9And after having rested a short time, she sat up and said to the virgins: Bring me a censer, that I may pray.

10E eles trouxeram, como lhes havia sido ordenado.

10And they brought it, as they had been commanded.

11E ela orou, dizendo: Meu Senhor Jesus Cristo, que te dignaste por Tua suprema bondade nascer de mim, ouve a minha voz, e envia-me o Teu apóstolo João, para que, vendo-o, eu possa participar da alegria; e envia-me também o resto dos Teus apóstolos, tanto aqueles que já foram a Ti, como aqueles no mundo que agora existe, em qualquer país que estejam, através do Teu santo mandamento, para que, tendo-os visto, eu possa abençoar Teu nome muito para ser louvado; pois estou certo de que em tudo ouves o Teu servo.

11And she prayed, saying: My Lord Jesus Christ, who didst deign through Thy supreme goodness to be born of me, hear my voice, and send me Thy apostle John, in order that, seeing him, I may partake of joy; and send me also the rest of Thy apostles, both those who have already gone to Thee, and those in the world that now is, in whatever country they may be, through Thy holy commandment, in order that, having beheld them, I may bless Thy name much to be praised; for I am confident that Thou hearest Thy servant in everything.

12E enquanto ela orava, eu, João, veio, tendo o Espírito Santo me arrebatado por uma nuvem de Éfeso, e me colocado no lugar onde estava deitada a mãe do meu Senhor.

12And while she was praying, I John came, the Holy Spirit having snatched me up by a cloud from Ephesus, and set me in the place where the mother of my Lord was lying.

13E tendo entrado ao lado dela, e glorificado Aquele que dela nasceu, eu disse: Salve, mãe de meu Senhor, que trouxeste Cristo nosso Deus, regozija-te porque em grande glória tu estás saindo desta vida.

13And having gone in beside her, and glorified Him who had been born of her, I said: Hail, mother of my Lord, who didst bring forth Christ our God, rejoice that in great glory thou art going out of this life.

14E a santa mãe de Deus glorificou a Deus, porque eu, João, tinha vindo a ela, lembrando-me da voz do Senhor, dizendo: Eis a tua mãe, e: Eis o teu filho.

14And the holy mother of God glorified God, because I John had come to her, remembering the voice of the Lord, saying: Behold thy mother, and, Behold thy son.

15E as três virgens vieram e adoraram.

15And the three virgins came and worshipped.

16E a santa mãe de Deus me diz: Reza e lança incenso.

16And the holy mother of God says to me: Pray, and cast incense.

17E eu orei assim: Senhor Jesus Cristo, que fizeste coisas maravilhosas, agora faze também coisas maravilhosas diante daquela que Te gerou; e deixe Tua mãe partir desta vida; e sejam confundidos aqueles que Te crucificaram e que não creram em Ti.

17And I prayed thus: Lord Jesus Christ, who hast done wonderful things, now also do wonderful things before her who brought Thee forth; and let Thy mother depart from this life; and let those who crucified Thee, and who have not believed in Thee, be confounded.

18E depois de terminar a oração, Santa Maria me disse: Traga-me o incensário.

18And after I had ended the prayer, holy Mary said to me: Bring me the censer.

19E tendo lançado incenso, ela disse: Glória a Ti, meu Deus e meu Senhor, porque se cumpriu em mim tudo o que Tu me prometeste antes de ascender aos céus, que quando eu partisse deste mundo, Tu virias a mim, e à multidão de Teus anjos, com glória.

19And having cast incense, she said, Glory to Thee, my God and my Lord, because there has been fulfilled in me whatsoever Thou didst promise to me before thou didst ascend into the heavens, that when I should depart from this world Thou wouldst come to me, and the multitude of Thine angels, with glory.

20E eu, João, digo-lhe: Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor e nosso Deus, vem, e tu o vês, como te prometeu.

20And I John say to her: Jesus Christ our Lord and our God is coming, and thou seest Him, as He promised to thee.

21E a santa mãe de Deus respondeu e disse-me: Os judeus juraram que depois de eu morrer queimarão o meu corpo.

21And the holy mother of God answered and said to me: The Jews have sworn that after I have died they will burn my body.

22E eu respondi e disse-lhe: Teu corpo santo e precioso de forma alguma verá corrupção.

22And I answered and said to her: Thy holy and precious body will by no means see corruption.

23E ela respondeu e disse-me: Traz um incensário, e lança incenso, e reza.

23And she answered and said to me: Bring a censer, and cast incense, and pray.

24E veio uma voz dos céus dizendo o Amém.

24And there came a voice out of the heavens saying the Amen.

25E eu, João, ouvi esta voz; e o Espírito Santo me disse: João, ouviste esta voz que falou no céu depois de terminada a oração? E eu respondi e disse: Sim, ouvi.

25And I John heard this voice; and the Holy Spirit said to me: John, hast thou heard this voice that spoke in the heaven after the prayer was ended? And I answered and said: Yes, I heard.

26E o Espírito Santo me disse: Esta voz que ouviste denota que o aparecimento de teus irmãos, os apóstolos, está próximo, e dos poderes sagrados que eles estão vindo aqui hoje.

26And the Holy Spirit said to me: This voice which thou didst hear denotes that the appearance of thy brethren the apostles is at hand, and of the holy powers that they are coming hither to-day.

27E nisso eu João orei.

27And at this I John prayed.

28E o Espírito Santo disse aos apóstolos: Que todos vocês juntos, vindos pelas nuvens dos confins do mundo, sejam reunidos na santa Belém por um redemoinho, por causa da mãe de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; Pedro de Roma, Paulo de Tibéria, Tomé da Índia, Tiago de Jerusalém.

28And the Holy Spirit said to the apostles: Let all of you together, having come by the clouds from the ends of the world, be assembled to holy Bethlehem by a whirlwind, on account of the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ; Peter from Rome, Paul from Tiberia, Thomas from Hither India, James from Jerusalem.

29André, irmão de Pedro, e Filipe, Lucas, Simão, o Cananeu, e Tadeu, que havia adormecido, foram ressuscitados de seus túmulos pelo Espírito Santo; a quem o Espírito Santo disse: Não pense que agora é a ressurreição; mas por esta razão vocês ressuscitaram de seus túmulos, para irem saudar a honra e os milagres da mãe de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo, porque está próximo o dia de sua partida, de sua subida aos céus.

29Andrew, Peter's brother, and Philip, Luke, and Simon the Cananaean, and Thaddaeus who had fallen asleep, were raised by the Holy Spirit out of their tombs; to whom the Holy Spirit said: Do not think that it is now the resurrection; but on this account you have risen out of your tombs, that you may go to give greeting to the honour and wonder-working of the mother of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, because the day of her departure is at hand, of her going up into the heavens.

30E Marcos também, vindo de Alexandria, estava presente; ele também com o resto, como já foi dito, de cada país.

30And Mark likewise coming round, was present from Alexandria; he also with the rest, as has been said before, from each country.

31E Pedro, sendo levantado por uma nuvem, ficou entre o céu e a terra, o Espírito Santo mantendo-o firme.

31And Peter being lifted up by a cloud, stood between heaven and earth, the Holy Spirit keeping him steady.

32E ao mesmo tempo, também os demais apóstolos, arrebatados pelas nuvens, foram encontrados junto com Pedro.

32And at the same time, the rest of the apostles also, having been snatched up in clouds, were found along with Peter.

33E assim, pelo Espírito Santo, como foi dito, todos eles se uniram.

33And thus by the Holy Spirit, as has been said, they all came together.

34E tendo entrado ao lado da mãe de nosso Senhor e Deus, e tendo adorado, dissemos: Não temas, nem te entristeças; Deus, o Senhor, que nasceu de ti, te tirará deste mundo com glória.

34And having gone in beside the mother of our Lord and God, and having adored, we said: Fear not, nor grieve; God the Lord, who was born of thee, will take thee out of this world with glory.

35E regozijando-se em Deus, seu Salvador, ela sentou-se na cama e disse aos apóstolos: Agora eu acreditei que nosso Mestre e Deus está vindo do céu, e eu o contemplarei e assim partirei desta vida, como vi que vocês vieram.

35And rejoicing in God her Saviour, she sat up in the bed, and says to the apostles: Now have I believed that our Master and God is coming from heaven, and I shall behold Him, and thus depart from this life, as I have seen that you have come.

36E desejo que você me diga como você sabia que eu estava partindo e veio até mim, e de quais países e por que distância você veio até aqui, que assim se apressou em me visitar.

36And I wish you to tell me how you knew that I was departing and came to me, and from what countries and through what distance you have come hither, that you have thus made haste to visit me.

37Pois nem Aquele que nasceu de mim, nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, o Deus do universo, o escondeu; pois já estou convencido de que Ele é o Filho do Altíssimo.

37For neither has He who was born of me, our Lord Jesus Christ, the God of the universe, concealed it; for I am persuaded even now that He is the Son of the Most High.

38E Pedro respondeu e disse aos apóstolos: Cada um de nós, conforme o que o Espírito Santo nos anunciou e ordenou, dê informações completas à mãe de nosso Senhor.

38And Peter answered and said to the apostles: Let us each, according to what the Holy Spirit announced and commanded us, give full information to the mother of our Lord.

39E eu, João, respondi e disse: No momento em que eu estava entrando no altar santo em Éfeso para realizar o serviço divino, o Espírito Santo me disse: O tempo da partida da mãe do teu Senhor está próximo; vá a Belém para saudá-la.

39And I John answered and said: Just as I was going in to the holy altar in Ephesus to perform divine service, the Holy Spirit says to me, The time of the departure of the mother of thy Lord is at hand; go to Bethlehem to salute her.

40E uma nuvem de luz me arrebatou e me colocou na porta onde você está deitado.

40And a cloud of light snatched me up, and set me down in the door where thou art lying.

41Pedro também respondeu: E eu, que morava em Roma, ao amanhecer ouvi uma voz através do Espírito Santo, que me dizia: A mãe do teu Senhor deve partir, pois o tempo está próximo; vá a Belém para saudá-la.

41Peter also answered: And I, living in Rome, about dawn heard a voice through the Holy Spirit saying to me, The mother of thy Lord is to depart, as the time is at hand; go to Bethlehem to salute her.

42E eis que uma nuvem de luz me arrebatou; e vi também os outros apóstolos vindo a mim nas nuvens, e uma voz me dizendo: Ide todos para Belém.

42And, behold, a cloud of light snatched me up; and I beheld also the other apostles coming to me on clouds, and a voice saying to me, Go all to Bethlehem.

43E Paulo também respondeu e disse: E eu, morando numa cidade não muito distante de Roma, chamada país de Tibéria, ouvi o Espírito Santo me dizer: A mãe do teu Senhor, tendo deixado este mundo, está fazendo seu curso para as regiões celestiais através de sua partida; mas vai tu também a Belém para saudá-la.

43And Paul also answered and said: And I, living in a city at no great distance from Rome, called the country of Tiberia, heard the Holy Spirit saying to me, The mother of thy Lord, having left this world, is making her course to the celestial regions through her departure; but go thou also to Bethlehem to salute her.

44E eis que uma nuvem de luz me arrebatou e me colocou no mesmo lugar que você.

44And, behold, a cloud of light having snatched me up, set me down in the same place as you.

45E Tomé também respondeu e disse: E eu, atravessando o país dos índios, quando a pregação estava prevalecendo pela graça de Cristo, e o filho da irmã do rei, Labdanus, de nome, estava prestes a ser selado por mim no palácio, de repente o Espírito Santo me disse: Tu também, Tomé, vai a Belém para saudar a mãe do teu Senhor, porque ela está partindo para os céus.

45And Thomas also answered and said: And I, traversing the country of the Indians, when the preaching was prevailing by the grace of Christ, and the king's sister's son Labdanus by name, was about to be sealed by me in the palace, on a sudden the Holy Spirit says to me, Do thou also, Thomas, go to Bethlehem to salute the mother of thy Lord, because she is taking her departure to the heavens.

46E uma nuvem de luz, tendo me arrebatado, me colocou ao seu lado.

46And a cloud of light having snatched me up, set me down beside you.

47E Marcos também respondeu e disse: E quando eu estava terminando o cânon do terceiro dia na cidade de Alexandria, no momento em que eu estava orando, o Espírito Santo me arrebatou e me trouxe até vocês.

47And Mark also answered and said: And when I was finishing the canon of the third day in the city of Alexandria, just as I was praying, the Holy Spirit snatched me up, and brought me to you.

48E também Tiago respondeu e disse: Enquanto eu estava em Jerusalém, o Espírito Santo me ordenou, dizendo: Vai a Belém, porque a mãe do teu Senhor está partindo.

48And James also answered and said: While I was in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit commanded me, saying, Go to Bethlehem, because the mother of thy Lord is taking her departure.

49E eis que uma nuvem de luz, tendo-me arrebatado, colocou-me ao teu lado.

49And, behold, a cloud of light having snatched me up, set me beside you.

50E Mateus também respondeu e disse: Eu glorifiquei e glorifico a Deus, porque quando eu estava em um barco e surpreendido por uma tempestade, o mar furioso com suas ondas, de repente uma nuvem de luz ofuscando a onda tempestuosa, mudou-a para uma calmaria, e tendo me arrebatado, colocou-me ao seu lado.

50And Matthew also answered and said: I have glorified and do glorify God, because when I was in a boat and overtaken by a storm, the sea raging with its waves, on a sudden a cloud of light overshadowing the stormy billow, changed it to a calm, and having snatched me up, set me down beside you.

51E os que vieram antes também responderam e contaram como tinham vindo.

51And those who had come before likewise answered, and gave an account of how they had come.

52E Bartolomeu disse: Eu estava em Tebaida proclamando a palavra, e eis que o Espírito Santo me disse: A mãe do teu Senhor está partindo; vá, então, saudá-la em Belém.

52And Bartholomew said: I was in the Thebais proclaiming the word, and behold the Holy Spirit says to me, The mother of thy Lord is taking her departure; go, then, to salute her in Bethlehem.

53E eis que uma nuvem de luz me arrebatou e me trouxe até você.

53And, behold, a cloud of light having snatched me up, brought me to you.

54Os apóstolos disseram todas estas coisas à santa mãe de Deus, por que vieram e de que maneira; e ela estendeu as mãos para o céu e orou, dizendo: Eu adoro, louvo e glorifico o Teu louvável nome, ó Senhor, porque olhaste para a humildade da Tua serva e porque Tu, que és poderoso, fizeste grandes coisas por mim; e eis que todas as gerações me considerarão bem-aventurada.

54The apostles said all these things to the holy mother of God, why they had come, and in what way; and she stretched her hands to heaven and prayed, saying: I adore, and praise, and glorify Thy much to be praised name, O Lord, because Thou hast looked upon the lowliness of Thine handmaiden, and because Thou that art mighty hast done great things for me; and, behold, all generations shall count me blessed.

55E depois da oração ela disse aos apóstolos: Lançai incenso e orai.

55And after the prayer she said to the apostles: Cast incense, and pray.

56E depois de orarem, houve um trovão do céu e ouviu-se uma voz terrível, como de carros; e eis que uma multidão de um exército de anjos e poderes, e uma voz, como se fosse do Filho do homem, foi ouvida, e os serafins em círculo ao redor da casa onde a santa e imaculada mãe de Deus e virgem estava deitada, de modo que todos os que estavam em Belém viram todas as coisas maravilhosas e foram a Jerusalém e relataram todas as coisas maravilhosas que haviam acontecido.

56And when they had prayed, there was thunder from heaven, and there came a fearful voice, as if of chariots; and, behold, a multitude of a host of angels and powers, and a voice, as if of the Son of man, was heard, and the seraphim in a circle round the house where the holy, spotless mother of God and virgin was lying, so that all who were in Bethlehem beheld all the wonderful things, and came to Jerusalem and reported all the wonderful things that had come to pass.

57E aconteceu que, ouvindo a voz, o sol e a lua apareceram de repente ao redor da casa; e uma assembléia dos santos primogênitos ficou ao lado da casa onde a mãe do Senhor estava deitada, para sua honra e glória.

57And it came to pass, when the voice was heard, that the sun and the moon suddenly appeared about the house; and an assembly of the first-born saints stood beside the house where the mother of the Lord was lying, for her honour and glory.

58E vi também que muitos sinais aconteceram: os cegos vendo, os surdos ouvindo, os coxos andando, os leprosos sendo purificados e os possuídos por espíritos imundos curados; e todas as que estavam doentes e enfermas, tocando o exterior da parede da casa onde estava deitada, clamavam: Santa Maria, que trouxeste Cristo nosso Deus, tem piedade de nós.

58And I beheld also that many signs came to pass, the blind seeing, the deaf hearing, the lame walking, lepers cleansed, and those possessed by unclean spirits cured; and every one who was under disease and sickness, touching the outside of the wall of the house where she was lying, cried out: Holy Mary, who didst bring forth Christ our God, have mercy upon us.

59E eles foram imediatamente curados.

59And they were straightway cured.

60E grandes multidões de todos os países que viviam em Jerusalém por causa da oração, tendo ouvido falar dos sinais que haviam acontecido em Belém através da mãe do Senhor, vieram ao local em busca da cura de várias doenças, que também obtiveram.

60And great multitudes out of every country living in Jerusalem for the sake of prayer, having heard of the signs that had come to pass in Bethlehem through the mother of the Lord, came to the place seeking the cure of various diseases, which also they obtained.

61E houve alegria indescritível naquele dia entre a multidão dos que haviam sido curados, bem como daqueles que olhavam, glorificando a Cristo nosso Deus e Sua mãe.

61And there was joy unspeakable on that day among the multitude of those who had been cured, as well as of those who looked on, glorifying Christ our God and His mother.

62E toda Jerusalém, desde Belém, celebrava uma festa com salmos e cânticos espirituais.

62And all Jerusalem from Bethlehem kept festival with psalms and spiritual songs.

63E os sacerdotes dos judeus e o seu povo ficaram admirados com as coisas que tinham acontecido; e movidos pelo mais pesado ódio, e novamente por raciocínios frívolos, tendo feito uma assembléia, decidem enviar contra a santa mãe de Deus e os santos apóstolos que estavam lá em Belém.

63And the priests of the Jews, along with their people, were astonished at the things which had come to pass; and being moved with the heaviest hatred, and again with frivolous reasoning, having made an assembly, they determine to send against the holy mother of God and the holy apostles who were there in Bethlehem.

64E, conseqüentemente, a multidão dos judeus, tendo dirigido seu curso para Belém, quando, à distância de uma milha, aconteceu que eles tiveram uma visão terrível e seus pés foram mantidos firmes; e depois disso eles voltaram para seus compatriotas e relataram toda a terrível visão aos principais sacerdotes.

64And accordingly the multitude of the Jews, having directed their course to Bethlehem, when at the distance of one mile it came to pass that they beheld a frightful vision, and their feet were held fast; and after this they returned to their fellow-countrymen, and reported all the frightful vision to the chief priests.

65E eles, ainda mais furiosos, vão até o procurador, gritando e dizendo: A nação dos judeus foi arruinada por esta mulher; expulsá-la de Belém e da província de Jerusalém.

65And they, still more boiling with rage, go to the procurator, crying out and saying: The nation of the Jews has been ruined by this woman; chase her from Bethlehem and the province of Jerusalem.

66E o procurador, admirado com as coisas maravilhosas, disse-lhes: Não a expulsarei nem de Belém nem de qualquer outro lugar.

66And the procurator, astonished at the wonderful things, said to them: I will chase her neither from Bethlehem nor from any other place.

67E os judeus continuaram a clamar e a conjurar-lhe, pela saúde de Tibério César, que tirasse os apóstolos de Belém.

67And the Jews continued crying out, and adjuring him by the health of Tiberius Caesar to bring the apostles out of Bethlehem.

68E se você não fizer isso, iremos reportar isso ao César.

68And if you do not do so, we shall report it to the Caesar.

69Assim, sendo compelido, ele envia um tribuno dos soldados contra os apóstolos a Belém.

69Accordingly, being compelled, he sends a tribune of the soldiers against the apostles to Bethlehem.

70E o Espírito Santo diz aos apóstolos e à mãe do Senhor: Eis que o procurador enviou um tribuno contra vós, tendo os judeus feito alvoroço.

70And the Holy Spirit says to the apostles and the mother of the Lord: Behold, the procurator has sent a tribune against you, the Jews having made an uproar.

71Sai pois de Belém e não temas; porque eis que numa nuvem te levarei a Jerusalém; porque o poder do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo está convosco.

71Go forth therefore from Bethlehem, and fear not: for, behold, by a cloud I shall bring you to Jerusalem; for the power of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit is with you.

72Os apóstolos, portanto, levantaram-se imediatamente e saíram da casa, carregando o leito da Senhora Mãe de Deus, e dirigiram-se para Jerusalém; e imediatamente, como o Espírito Santo havia dito, sendo levantados por uma nuvem, foram encontrados em Jerusalém, na casa da Senhora.

72The apostles therefore rose up immediately, and went forth from the house, carrying the bed of the Lady the mother of God, and directed their course to Jerusalem; and immediately, as the Holy Spirit had said, being lifted up by a cloud, they were found in Jerusalem in the house of the Lady.

73E eles se levantaram e durante cinco dias cantaram incessantemente louvores.

73And they stood up, and for five days made an unceasing singing of praise.

74E quando o tribuno chegou a Belém, e não encontrou ali nem a mãe do Senhor nem os apóstolos, ele prendeu os belemitas, dizendo-lhes: Vocês não vieram contar ao procurador e aos sacerdotes todos os sinais e prodígios que aconteceram, e como os apóstolos vieram de cada país? Onde eles estão, então? Venha, vá ao procurador em Jerusalém.

74And when the tribune came to Bethlehem, and found there neither the mother of the Lord nor the apostles, he laid hold of the Bethlehemites, saying to them: Did you not come telling the procurator and the priests all the signs and wonders that had come to pass, and how the apostles had come out of every country? Where are they, then? Come, go to the procurator at Jerusalem.

75Pois o tribuno não sabia da partida dos apóstolos e da mãe do Senhor para Jerusalém.

75For the tribune did not know of the departure of the apostles and the Lord's mother to Jerusalem.

76O tribuno então, tendo levado os belemitas, foi ao procurador, dizendo que não havia encontrado ninguém.

76The tribune then, having taken the Bethlehemites, went in to the procurator, saying that he had found no one.

77E depois de cinco dias, foi conhecido ao procurador, e aos sacerdotes, e a toda a cidade, que a mãe do Senhor estava em sua própria casa em Jerusalém, junto com os apóstolos, pelos sinais e prodígios que ali aconteceram.

77And after five days it was known to the procurator, and the priests, and all the city, that the Lord's mother was in her own house in Jerusalem, along with the apostles, from the signs and wonders that came to pass there.

78E uma multidão de homens, mulheres e virgens se reuniu e clamou: Santa virgem, que trouxeste Cristo nosso Deus, não te esqueças da geração dos homens.

78And a multitude of men and women and virgins came together, and cried out: Holy virgin, that didst bring forth Christ our God, do not forget the generation of men.

79E quando estas coisas aconteceram, o povo dos judeus, e também os sacerdotes, ainda mais movidos pelo ódio, pegaram lenha e fogo, e subiram, querendo queimar a casa onde a mãe do Senhor morava com os apóstolos.

79And when these things came to pass, the people of the Jews, with the priests also, being the more moved with hatred, took wood and fire, and came up, wishing to burn the house where the Lord's mother was living with the apostles.

80E o procurador ficou olhando a cena de longe.

80And the procurator stood looking at the sight from afar off.

81E quando o povo dos judeus chegou à porta da casa, eis que de repente um poder de fogo saindo de dentro, por meio de um anjo, queimou uma grande multidão de judeus.

81And when the people of the Jews came to the door of the house, behold, suddenly a power of fire coming forth from within, by means of an angel, burnt up a great multitude of the Jews.

82E houve grande temor por toda a cidade; e glorificaram a Deus, que dela nasceu.

82And there was great fear throughout all the city; and they glorified God, who had been born of her.

83E quando o procurador viu o que havia acontecido, gritou a todo o povo, dizendo: Verdadeiramente aquele que nasceu da virgem, a quem pensastes expulsar, é o Filho de Deus; pois esses sinais são os do verdadeiro Deus.

83And when the procurator saw what had come to pass, he cried out to all the people, saying: Truly he who was born of the virgin, whom you have thought of driving away, is the Son of God; for these signs are those of the true God.

84E houve divisão entre os judeus; e muitos creram no nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, por causa dos sinais que aconteceram.

84And there was a division among the Jews; and many believed in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in consequence of the signs that had come to pass.

85E depois que todas essas coisas maravilhosas aconteceram pela mãe de Deus, e sempre virgem Maria, a mãe do Senhor, enquanto nós, os apóstolos, estávamos com ela em Jerusalém, o Espírito Santo nos disse: Vocês sabem que no dia do Senhor a boa nova foi trazida à Virgem Maria pelo arcanjo Gabriel; e no dia do Senhor nasceu o Salvador em Belém; e no dia do Senhor os filhos de Jerusalém saíram ao seu encontro com palmas, dizendo: Hosana nas alturas, bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor; e no dia do Senhor Ele ressuscitou dos mortos; e no dia do Senhor Ele virá para julgar os vivos e os mortos; e no dia do Senhor Ele descerá do céu, para a glória e honra da partida da santa e gloriosa virgem que O trouxe à luz.

85And after all these wonderful things had come to pass through the mother of God, and ever-virgin Mary the mother of the Lord, while we the apostles were with her in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit said to us: You know that on the Lord's day the good news was brought to the Virgin Mary by the archangel Gabriel; and on the Lord's day the Saviour was born in Bethlehem; and on the Lord's day the children of Jerusalem came forth with palm branches to meet him, saying, Hosanna in the highest, blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord; and on the Lord's day He rose from the dead; and on the Lord's day He will come to judge the living and the dead; and on the Lord's day He will come out of heaven, to the glory and honour of the departure of the holy glorious virgin who brought Him forth.

86E no mesmo dia do Senhor a mãe do Senhor diz aos apóstolos: Lançai incenso, porque Cristo vem com uma hoste de anjos; e eis que Cristo está próximo, sentado num trono de querubins.

86And on the same Lord's day the mother of the Lord says to the apostles: Cast incense, because Christ is coming with a host of angels; and, behold, Christ is at hand, sitting on a throne of cherubim.

87E enquanto estávamos todos orando, apareceram inúmeras multidões de anjos, e o Senhor montou sobre querubins com grande poder; e eis que um raio de luz veio à santa virgem, por causa da presença de seu Filho unigênito, e todos os poderes dos céus caíram e O adoraram.

87And while we were all praying, there appeared innumerable multitudes of angels, and the Lord mounted upon cherubim in great power; and, behold, a stream of light coming to the holy virgin, because of the presence of her only-begotten Son, and all the powers of the heavens fell down and adored Him.

88E o Senhor, falando com Sua mãe, disse: Maria.

88And the Lord, speaking to His mother, said: Mary.

89E ela respondeu e disse: Aqui estou, Senhor.

89And she answered and said: Here am I, Lord.

90E o Senhor lhe disse: Não te entristeças, mas regozije-se e alegre-se o teu coração; pois achaste graça para contemplar a glória que me foi dada por meu Pai.

90And the Lord said to her: Grieve not, but let thy heart rejoice and be glad; for thou hast found grace to behold the glory given to me by my Father.

91E a santa mãe de Deus olhou para cima e viu Nele uma glória que é impossível para a boca do homem falar ou apreender.

91And the holy mother of God looked up, and saw in Him a glory which it is impossible for the mouth of man to speak of, or to apprehend.

92E o Senhor permaneceu ao lado dela, dizendo: Eis que, a partir de agora, teu precioso corpo será transferido para o paraíso, e tua santa alma para os céus, para os tesouros de meu Pai em brilho excessivo, onde há paz e alegria dos santos anjos — e outras coisas além disso.

92And the Lord remained beside her, saying: Behold, from the present time thy precious body will be transferred to paradise, and thy holy soul to the heavens to the treasures of my Father in exceeding brightness, where there is peace and joy of the holy angels,—and other things besides.

93E a mãe do Senhor respondeu e disse-lhe: Põe sobre mim a tua mão direita, ó Senhor, e abençoa-me.

93And the mother of the Lord answered and said to him: Lay Thy right hand upon me, O Lord, and bless me.

94E o Senhor estendeu a sua mão direita imaculada e a abençoou.

94And the Lord stretched forth His undefiled right hand, and blessed her.

95E ela pegou Sua mão direita imaculada e beijou-a, dizendo: Eu adoro esta mão direita, que criou o céu e a terra; e invoco Teu louvável nome de Cristo, ó Deus, o Rei dos séculos, o Unigênito do Pai, para receber Tua serva, Tu que te dignaste ser gerado por mim, em um estado inferior, para salvar a raça dos homens através de Tua dispensação inefável; concede Tua ajuda a todo homem que invoca, ora ou nomeia Tua serva.

95And she laid hold of His undefiled right hand, and kissed it, saying: I adore this right hand, which created the heaven and the earth; and I call upon Thy much to be praised name Christ, O God, the King of the ages, the only-begotten of the Father, to receive Thine handmaid, Thou who didst deign to be brought forth by me, in a low estate, to save the race of men through Thine ineffable dispensation; do Thou bestow Thine aid upon every man calling upon, or praying to, or naming the name of, Thine handmaid.

96E enquanto ela diz isso, os apóstolos, levantando-se e adorando-a, dizem: Ó mãe do Senhor, deixa uma bênção ao mundo, já que dele estás indo.

96And while she is saying this, the apostles, having gone up to her feet and adored, say: O mother of the Lord, leave a blessing to the world, since thou art going away from it.

97Pois tu o abençoaste e o ressuscitaste quando estava arruinado, trazendo à tona a Luz do mundo.

97For thou hast blessed it, and raised it up when it was ruined, by bringing forth the Light of the world.

98E a mãe do Senhor orou, e em sua oração falou assim: Ó Deus, que por Tua grande bondade enviaste dos céus Teu Filho unigênito para habitar em meu humilde corpo, que te dignaste nascer de mim, humilde como sou, tem piedade do mundo e de toda alma que invoca Teu nome.

98And the mother of the Lord prayed, and in her prayer spoke thus: O God, who through Thy great goodness hast sent from the heavens Thine only-begotten Son to dwell in my humble body, who hast deigned to be born of me, humble as I am, have mercy upon the world, and every soul that calls upon Thy name.

99E novamente ela orou e disse: Ó Senhor, Rei dos céus, Filho do Deus vivo, aceita todo homem que invoca Teu nome, para que Teu nascimento seja glorificado.

99And again she prayed, and said: O Lord, King of the heavens, Son of the living God, accept every man who calls upon Thy name, that Thy birth may be glorified.

100E novamente ela orou e disse: Ó Senhor Jesus Cristo, que és todo-poderoso no céu e na terra, neste apelo imploro o Teu santo nome; em todo tempo e lugar onde for feita menção do meu nome, santifique esse lugar e glorifique aqueles que Te glorificam através do meu nome, aceitando dessas pessoas todas as suas ofertas, todas as suas súplicas e todas as suas orações.

100And again she prayed, and said: O Lord Jesus Christ, who art all-powerful in heaven and on earth, in this appeal I implore Thy holy name; in every time and place where there is made mention of my name, make that place holy, and glorify those that glorify Thee through my name, accepting of such persons all their offering, and all their supplication, and all their prayer.

101E quando ela orou assim, o Senhor disse a Sua mãe: Regozije-se e alegre-se o teu coração; pois todo favor e todo dom te foram dados de meu Pai que está nos céus, e de mim, e do Espírito Santo: toda alma que invocar o teu nome não se envergonhará, mas encontrará misericórdia, e conforto, e apoio, e confiança, tanto no mundo que agora existe como no que há de vir, na presença de meu Pai nos céus.

101And when she had thus prayed, the Lord said to His mother: Let thy heart rejoice and be glad; for every favour and every gift has been given to thee from my Father in heaven, and from me, and from the Holy Spirit: every soul that calls upon thy name shall not be ashamed, but shall find mercy, and comfort, and support, and confidence, both in the world that now is, and in that which is to come, in the presence of my Father in the heavens.

102E o Senhor voltou-se e disse a Pedro: Chegou a hora de começar a cantar o hino.

102And the Lord turned and said to Peter: The time has come to begin the singing of the hymn.

103E tendo Pedro começado a cantar o hino, todos os poderes dos céus responderam com o Aleluia.

103And Peter having begun the singing of the hymn, all the powers of the heavens responded with the Alleluiah.

104E então o rosto da mãe do Senhor brilhou mais forte que a luz, e ela se levantou e abençoou cada um dos apóstolos com suas próprias mãos, e todos deram glória a Deus; e o Senhor estendeu Suas mãos imaculadas e recebeu sua alma santa e irrepreensível.

104And then the face of the mother of the Lord shone brighter than the light, and she rose up and blessed each of the apostles with her own hand, and all gave glory to God; and the Lord stretched forth His undefiled hands, and received her holy and blameless soul.

105E com a partida da sua alma inocente o lugar encheu-se de perfume e de luz inefável; e eis que se ouviu uma voz do céu, que dizia: Bendita és tu entre as mulheres.

105And with the departure of her blameless soul the place was filled with perfume and ineffable light; and, behold, a voice out of the heaven was heard, saying: Blessed art thou among women.

106E Pedro, e eu, João, e Paulo, e Tomé, corremos e amarramos seus preciosos pés para a consagração; e os doze apóstolos colocaram seu precioso e santo corpo sobre uma cama e o carregaram.

106And Peter, and I John, and Paul, and Thomas, ran and wrapped up her precious feet for the consecration; and the twelve apostles put her precious and holy body upon a couch, and carried it.

107E eis que, enquanto a carregavam, um certo hebreu bem-nascido, de nome Jefonias, correndo contra o corpo, pôs as mãos sobre o leito; e eis que um anjo do Senhor por poder invisível, com uma espada de fogo, cortou-lhe as duas mãos dos ombros, e as fez penduradas no sofá, levantadas no ar.

107And, behold, while they were carrying her, a certain well-born Hebrew, Jephonias by name, running against the body, put his hands upon the couch; and, behold, an angel of the Lord by invisible power, with a sword of fire, cut off his two hands from his shoulders, and made them hang about the couch, lifted up in the air.

108E diante deste milagre que aconteceu, todo o povo judeu que o viu gritou: Em verdade, Aquele que foi gerado por ti é o verdadeiro Deus, ó mãe de Deus, sempre virgem Maria.

108And at this miracle which had come to pass all the people of the Jews who beheld it cried out: Verily, He that was brought forth by thee is the true God, O mother of God, ever-virgin Mary.

109E o próprio Jefonias, quando Pedro lhe ordenou que se manifestassem as maravilhas de Deus, levantou-se atrás do sofá e gritou: Santa Maria, que trouxeste Cristo que é Deus, tem piedade de mim.

109And Jephonias himself, when Peter ordered him, that the wonderful things of God might be showed forth, stood up behind the couch, and cried out: Holy Mary, who broughtest forth Christ who is God, have mercy upon me.

110E Pedro voltou-se e disse-lhe: Em nome daquele que dela nasceu, as tuas mãos que te foram tiradas serão fixadas novamente.

110And Peter turned and said to him: In the name of Him who was born of her, thy hands which have been taken away from thee, will be fixed on again.

111E imediatamente, por ordem de Pedro, vieram as mãos penduradas no leito da Senhora, e fixaram-se em Jefonias.

111And immediately, at the word of Peter, the hands hanging by the couch of the Lady came, and were fixed on Jephonias.

112E ele creu e glorificou a Cristo, Deus que dela nascera.

112And he believed, and glorified Christ, God who had been born of her.

113E quando esse milagre foi realizado, os apóstolos carregaram o leito e depositaram seu precioso e santo corpo no Getsêmani, em um novo túmulo.

113And when this miracle had been done, the apostles carried the couch, and laid down her precious and holy body in Gethsemane in a new tomb.

114E eis que um perfume de suave sabor saía do santo sepulcro de Nossa Senhora mãe de Deus; e durante três dias foram ouvidas vozes de anjos invisíveis glorificando a Cristo nosso Deus, que dela nascera.

114And, behold, a perfume of sweet savour came forth out of the holy sepulchre of our Lady the mother of God; and for three days the voices of invisible angels were heard glorifying Christ our God, who had been born of her.

115E quando terminou o terceiro dia, as vozes já não se ouviam; e daquele momento em diante todos sabiam que seu corpo imaculado e precioso havia sido transferido para o paraíso.

115And when the third day was ended, the voices were no longer heard; and from that time forth all knew that her spotless and precious body had been transferred to paradise.

116E depois de transferida, eis que vemos Isabel, mãe de S.

116And after it had been transferred, behold, we see Elisabeth the mother of St.

117João Batista, e Ana, a mãe da Senhora, e Abraão, e Isaque, e Jacó, e Davi, cantando o Aleluia, e todos os coros dos santos adorando as santas relíquias da mãe do Senhor, e o lugar cheio de luz, cuja luz nada poderia ser mais brilhante, e uma abundância de perfume naquele lugar para onde seu precioso e santo corpo foi transferido no paraíso, e a melodia daqueles que louvam Aquele que dela nasceu - doce melodia, do qual não há saciedade, tal como é dado às virgens, e somente a elas, para ouvir.

117John the Baptist, and Anna the mother of the Lady, and Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and David, singing the Alleluiah, and all the choirs of the saints adoring the holy relics of the mother of the Lord, and the place full of light, than which light nothing could be more brilliant, and an abundance of perfume in that place to which her precious and holy body had been transferred in paradise, and the melody of those praising Him who had been born of her—sweet melody, of which there is no satiety, such as is given to virgins, and them only, to hear.

118Nós, apóstolos, portanto, tendo contemplado a súbita e preciosa trasladação de seu santo corpo, glorificamos a Deus, que nos mostrou Suas maravilhas na partida da mãe de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, cujas orações e bons ofícios podemos todos ser considerados dignos de receber, sob seu abrigo, apoio e proteção, tanto no mundo que agora é como no que há de vir, glorificando em todos os tempos e lugares seu Filho unigênito, junto com o Pai e o Espírito Santo, para todo o sempre, Amém.

118We apostles, therefore, having beheld the sudden precious translation of her holy body, glorified God, who had shown us His wonders at the departure of the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, whose prayers and good offices may we all be deemed worthy to receive, under her shelter, and support, and protection, both in the world that now is and in that which is to come, glorifying in every time and place her only-begotten Son, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever, Amen.
