Documento de Damasco 10

1Todo homem que impuser anátema sobre um homem dentre os homens segundo as ordenanças dos gentios deve ser morto.

1Every man who puts under the ban a man amongst men according to the ordinances of the Gentiles is to be put to death:

2E quanto àquilo que Ele disse: 'Não tomarás vingança nem guardarás rancor contra os filhos do teu povo', qualquer homem dentre os que entraram na aliança que trouxer acusação contra o seu próximo sem o haver repreendido perante testemunhas, e ainda assim a trouxer no seu furor ardente ou a relatar aos seus anciãos para o desprezar, está tomando vingança e guardando rancor.

2And as for that which He hath said: 'Thou shalt not take vengeance nor bear a grudge against the children of thy people,' every man of those who have entered into the covenant, who brings a charge against his neighbor whom he had not rebuked before witnesses, and yet brings it in his fierce wrath or recounts it to his elders in order to bring him into contempt, is taking vengeance and bearing a grudge.

3Porém nada está escrito senão que: 'Ele toma vingança sobre os Seus adversários, e guarda rancor contra os Seus inimigos.'

3But naught is written save that, 'He taketh vengeance on His adversaries, and He beareth a grudge against His enemies.'

4Se ele calou a respeito dele de dia em dia, mas no seu furor ardente falou contra ele em matéria de morte, testificou contra si mesmo, porque não deu cumprimento ao mandamento de Deus, que lhe disse:

4If he held his peace with regard to him from day to day, but in his fierce wrath spake against him in a matter of death, he hath testified against himself because he did not give effect to the commandment of God, Who said to him,

5'Certamente repreenderás o teu próximo e não levarás sobre ti pecado por causa dele.'

5'Thou shalt surely rebuke thy neighbor and not bear sin because of him.'

6No que concerne ao juramento, tocante ao que Ele disse: 'Não te vingarás com a tua própria mão', o homem que fizer outro homem jurar em campo aberto — isto é, não na presença dos juízes, ou sem que seja por ordem deles — vingou-se com a sua própria mão.

6As regards the oath, touching that which He said 'Thou shalt not avenge thee with thine own hand', the man who makes another man swear in the open field—that is, not in the presence of the judges, or owing to their commands—hath avenged himself with his own hand.

7E quanto a qualquer coisa perdida, se não for conhecido quem a furtou dos bens do acampamento em que a coisa foi roubada, o seu dono a proclamará pelo juramento de maldição; e quem quer que ouvir, se souber e não o declarar, será tido por culpado.

7And as for anything that is lost, should it not be known who has stolen it from the property of the camp in which the thing has been stolen, its owner shall proclaim it by the oath of cursing and whoso hears, if he knows and declares it not, shall be held guilty.

8Quanto a qualquer restituição feita por aquele que devolve o que não tem dono, aquele que o devolve confessará ao sacerdote, e o que estava perdido ser-lhe-á restituído, além do carneiro da oferta pela culpa ao sacerdote; e assim tudo o que foi perdido e achado e não tem dono será entregue aos sacerdotes, pois aquele que o achou não conhece a sua lei.

8As for any restitution made by him who returns that which has not an owner, he who returns it shall confess to the priest, and that which was lost shall be given back to him, besides the ram of the guilt-offering to the priest; and so everything that was lost and found and has no owner shall be given to the priests for he who found it knows not its law.

9Se o seu dono não for encontrado, eles ficarão encarregados disso.

9If its owner is not found they shall take charge of it.

10Se um homem em qualquer matéria transgredir contra a Lei e o seu próximo e ninguém mais o vir, se for matéria de morte, ele o fará saber ao Censor na presença do acusado, cumprindo o dever de repreensão; e o Censor o escreverá de seu próprio punho:

10If a man in any matter trespasses against the Law and his neighbor and none but he sees it, if it be a matter of death, he shall make it known to the Censor in the presence of the accused in discharging the duty of reproof: and the Censor shall write it down with his own hand:

11Se ele o fizer novamente perante outro, este voltará e o fará saber ao Censor.

11If he do it again before another, he shall return and make it known to the Censor.

12Se ele for apanhado novamente perante outro, o seu julgamento será executado.

12If he shall be caught again before another, his judgment shall be executed.

13E se forem dois e testemunharem contra ele cada um sobre uma coisa diferente, o homem será apenas excluído da Pureza, contanto que sejam fidedignos e que no dia em que viram o homem o façam saber ao Censor.

13And if they are two and they witness against him each on a different thing the man shall be only excluded from the Purity, provided that they are trustworthy, and that on the day on which they have seen the man they make it known to the Censor.

14E segundo o estatuto aceitarão duas testemunhas fidedignas, e não apenas uma para excluir da Pureza.

14And according to the statute they shall accept two trustworthy witnesses, and not one to exclude the Purity.

15E nenhuma testemunha se levantará perante os juízes para fazer com que um homem seja morto pela sua boca, cujos dias não se tenham cumprido para passar para o número dos que são alistados e que não seja um homem que tema a Deus.

15And there shall arise no witness before the judges to cause a man to be put to death at his mouth, whose days have not been fulfilled so as to pass over unto those that are numbered and who is not a man who fears God.

16Ninguém será aceito como testemunha contra o seu próximo que transgredir uma palavra do mandamento com mão soberba, até que seja purificado pelo arrependimento.

16None shall be believed as a witness against his neighbor who transgresses a word of the commandment with a high hand until they are cleansed through repentance.
